5 year redraw of a redraw of a scene where my oc's faceclaim experiences horrible shit that matches Chris' lore so well it's ridiculous... and this time ?? I know how to use references. Honestly I'm just proud of myself. More beneath the cut !!!

I've experienced a ton of growth with my art in the last few years and Chris has experienced just as much character growth !!! He was pretty hard to use for a while after the way my ex played with him but I finally feel like I'm getting comfortable with him again. He even has a ship again !!! I'm really excited and really happy and just super stoked to play with this loser again.

This art itself turned out really marvelous I genuinely wasn't expecting it to turn out like SO well. I had a great time. I'm proud of successfully using a reference with no tracing even if it's not much like my usual style !! I also know now that less is more and how not to distract from an already dark piece with a busy photo background.

I also don't know what I was doing with the super bright eye like I know I wanted a glowy effect but it just straight up did NOT work out. Idk. I'm very very happy with how the values turned out and how it's not all simultaneously muddy and bright and dark at once like the old one. I gotta stop rambling I could go on and on forever.... Don't Make Them Yellow.

When we asked you not to whitewash Alyx. We did not mean for you to make her yellow. And we did not ask you to whitewash Christopher or make him yellow either.

I'm happy we like these characters enough to draw them but. You can't just be drawing Asian characters yellow. That shit is a racist stereotype that we should be leaving behind.

I'm not saying you ABSOLUTELY MUST colorpick off the characters. I understand that isn't practical for a lot of styles and jpeg artifacting distorts colors, but when you're drawing all the other characters with these orange and red tones, and then you draw the Asian characters with yellow tones that dont exist on their color palette- it's fucking weird.

Alyx is more orange toned and Christopher leans more red. Neither of them are yellow. Neither of them should be drawn yellow. If you're struggling with this, maybe just stick to colorpicking until you develop an eye for skintones. Here's a tutorial even.

I love Alyx dearly and Christopher so far is one of my favorite hl2vrai characters, I hate to see them whitewashed or made to look like racist caricatures. It's not a lot of people, but it's enough to be concerning.
