She had to take a deep breath to calm her heart considering it felt like it was beating a mile a minute. She then laughed as she adjusted herself in her seat. Daniâs lips parted to speak and respond to that but nothing came out, she then pressed her lips into a thin line with a smile still on her face. He always had this way of making her feel flustered and shy. She knew she should say something by now, anything. She glanced around the bar and then back at him, âSlow day?âÂ
Halcyon could do nothing to prevent his smile from growing as the girl seemed to get quite flustered by his mere presence. It wasnât unusual, of course, but concerning Danielle...it made him smile just a little bit more. âVery slow,â he admitted, starting to sway back and forth as he continued to lean forward on his elbows towards her. ââS quite wonderful, actually. This way I donât have ta give anyone but you me attention.âÂ
He really should be in bed right now. He knew he had a long shift waiting for him in the morning but he just couldnât get comfortable in his bed. He figured maybe a walk would help. Tobias always loved the outdoors and it did help him relax and clear his head. He glanced to the person whoâs shadow he caught sight of, âOut a little late, no?â He chuckled knowing he had no room to speak himself.Â
Halcyon quickly counted his tips as he walked towards his apartment, where he would floo to his home. He wasnât paying much attention--being a white cis man gave him the privilege of not having to worry about walking alone in the dark. He was still rather surprised, however, that someone seemed to be calling out to him. He smiled. âNo,â he replied quickly and cheerfully. âI only just got off, so Iâd say âm out at exactly the right time, mate. What about you?â
If people knew how often she came into the bar, she was sure theyâd tell her that she had a developing drinking problem but this seemed like the only place that didnât have the lingering feeling of doom and she never drank in excess so she wasnât worried. It also helped that she got to see her best friend when ever she stopped to visit. âWow, this place is lively.â She teased, âIâm gonna take some firewhiskey for now but.. the real question is when are you getting off so I can steal you away?âÂ
Halcyon grinned wider at the sight of his best friend. As she approached, Halcyon made his way around the bar so as to give her a proper kiss on the head--quite customary when it came to Halcyon and those he was closest with. Once sheâd told him her order, he made his way back to the other side and poured it quickly, albeit with a small flourish. âMmmm...âs all depends on what ya stealinâ me away fer. The more enticinâ it sounds, the sooner I get off.â He smiled, directing his eyes to hers. âWhat âs the plan?â
Rose practically skipped her way to the bar and drummed her fingers against the bar top. âHello my friend,â she said and took a seat on the stole. âAll I really need is your smile but Iâll take a firewhiskey if youâre serving it.â
Halcyon grinned, shook his head, then quickly poured a firewhiskey out for his friend. âLucky fer you...weâre chalk full oâ both smiles and firewhiskey. âS the best two fer one yaâve ever heard.â He passed the glass to Rose. âWhat âs the latest new, me bonnie?â
ah yes, her favorite bartender â no one tell alice that. there was one reason why she would be at this bar, other than to be up late working at her latest project, and that would be the gossip that halcyon always seems to process. â are you trying to tell me that you actually poisoned someone halcyon? who? i need the details now. â she hopped on the stool with a grin on her face. â you decide, dealers choice. and you better surprise me. â
Halcyon laughed--with him, laughter was easy and full-bellied. âI mean...I canât give ya the details if ya donât agree ta not turn me. in. Coulda been anyone. What if it were ya mum? Gotta be careful with who I tell me secrets to,â he said with a wink. He turned around and started to put an Irish Coffee together. It seemed fitting for Dom. It had alcohol for the sake of alcohol and coffee to help her stay awake for any project she might be going about.Â
âFuck, man,â Charlie cursed as they flopped down onto the lounge chair next to Hal, glad to finally be on their break. âHow do you do it? How do you just not develop real feelings with every girl you come across? I need you to fill me in on your secret. Iâm on my third future spouse, and itâs not even noon yet.âÂ
Halcyon gasped and drew his hand to his heart. âI shutter at the insinuation!â He said, over-dramatic, but smiling nonetheless. âI very much develop real feelings for âem. Theyâre just not I-want-ta-be-ya-boyfriend feelings.â Which wasnât exactly wrong, but it took for granted what they truly meant. He laughed anyway. âMaybe if ya actually approached one of âem, ya could live out those feelinâs in whatever way they need ta be lived out. 'S my secret. Let the feelinâs run the course.âÂ
Rayna wasnât much of a drinker, or one at all. But as of late, sheâd been under a lot of pressure, and so, she was desperate to find a way to unwind. Though, the sight of an overly excited, in her mind bartender, put her off somewhat, she still continued to the bar. She felt as though her eyes were popping out from her skull as she took in all the different bottles on the shelf. âThatâs a good question, perhaps a SMALL glass of sherry with a glass of water.âÂ
Halcyon nodded and turned to whip her order up quickly. âAre you alright?â He asked with his back still turned. âYa seem quite...well...letâs say overwhelmed ta begin with.â He turned back towards her, his face one a slight (if not genuine) look of concern. He set the top glasses down in front of her and maintained his direction eye contact.Â
To run into him again was a surprise to her but maybe it was exactly what she needed. Dani didnât work today but it had become a routine to come and visit this bar before she headed home. She had been out and about with her mother most of the day but now it was time to head back home. Dani walked in and looked around before she headed to her usual spot at the bar. She looked around, wondering if maybe today was his day off and then squeaked when he called her name. âOh goodness, I honestly didnât see you. I thought maybe you were off today.â
It had been a rather slow day, so Halcyon had ducked out to the back real quick to take out the trash--that way he wouldnât have to do it later. Of course, though, as to be expected, the one time you leave is the one time you shouldnât. When Halcyon reentered the bar someone was there, waiting to be served. Luckily, Halcyon immediately recognized the form and didnât feel bad. He already started to smirk, and his posture became straighter. âDanielle,â he said softly, and then made his way behind the bar. His smile only grew with her words. He leaned forward, elbows on the bar, and made direct eye contact with the girl. âThat would be very disappointinâ fer both of us, wouldnât it?â
Halcyon beamed as someone entered the bar--finally. The day had been entirely too quiet thus far, and it was boring the hell out of him. He just wanted to have someone--anyone--to come in and socialize. âHey there,â he smiled, leaning forward on the bar and maintaining direct eye contact. âWhatâs your poison for today?â
the ministry requests the appearance of HALCYON MCLAGGEN immediately ! the TWENTY-SIX year old alumni from HOGWARTS is now working as a BARTENDER. the ministry seeks knowledge about their involvement with the disappearance of magic. be cautious for they are DRAMATIC and MASKED, but also FRIENDLY and ALTRUISTIC.
However, it wasnât long after Halcyon turned two that Cormac came down with a cold that only got worse and worse and worse. Â The sickness, unexplained but fast-acting, stole Cormac from this world, and stole Sylviaâs sense of safety. After that, Sylvia became an agoraphobic. She was a complete shut-in and sheltered Halcyon from everything. He spent a lot of time alone with no friends to speak of, taking care of his mam as best he could.
The only friend he really had was a mooncalf he befriended one night when he was eight, which he named Winter (after the season in which they met). His mam let him keep the pet, seeing how happy it made him.
Halcyonâs parents always knew that heâd be getting a message from Hogwarts, as from the second he was born, Halcyon could, without any effort, shift his features, his hair color...all of it. He was a metamorphmagus. This excited Cormac, who would tell the young child all about Hogwarts and his adventures there (not that Halcyon remembers much of what he said, given his age), but after Cormacâs death, it only gave his mother great anxiety. How could she send her only child away to a place that seemed, from her husbandâs stories, to be not as safe as a school should be?
So when Halcyon got his letter, he and his mam sat down for a long talk. Which ended in this: Halcyon would not be going to Hogwarts. Instead he would continue to be homeschooled by her. While she was a squib, sheâd grown up surrounded by magic and decided that she could teach him what he needed. The conclusion was a great disappointment to the young child, who craved social interaction and excitement, but even at that age he understood. He understood that his mom wasnât quite like other moms. He understood she needed him. So he stayed. And he learned what he could.
But it couldnât last long. Halcyonâs abilities far surpassed what Sylvia could teach him, and she knew that it could have dangerous results if he didnât get a proper education. So the summer before what would have been Halcyonâs fourth year it was decided that he would transfer into Hogwarts. Halcyon was beyond ecstatic. He craved friends, he craved to be well-liked. He looked in the mirror and he wondered how he could ensure that his loneliness wouldnât follow him to school. Not having a lot of friends growing up, and not having a lot to do, Halcyon spent a lot of time watching movies. This lead him to one conclusion: people liked people who were attractive. So he worked on his metamorphmagus abilities until he was easily able to hold them all day long without any thought. Halcyon gave himself a new face--one that he thought was more attractive than his own, and one that he felt assured he would make friends with.
Self-assured, excited for adventure, and willing to befriend anyone he came across, Halcyon was sorted into Gryffindor and made many friends. Because he was homeschooled by his mother, who, while grew up with magic, didnât have any practical magic experience, he quick fell behind the other students in his year. He didnât mind much. He had friends, and was experiencing so much more than he was before.
After graduating, Halcyon continued to live with his mom and take care of her. No one knows much about his home life, and he likes to keep it that way. He has a small place in the city for bringing friends and other guests back to, so that no one questions where he lives, but he rarely spends time there without someone else. No one he knows has ever seen what his real face looks like, and no one even knows heâs a metamorphmagus.
Halcyon flirts a lot and has a lot of hook-ups and the like, but heâs never been in love. His mind doesnât really connect sex and romance in his mind, and itâs not unlikely from him to be good friends with those heâs had a one-night stand with, or to try and set his hook-ups up with someone else. Very much shows platonic love--lots of hugs and kisses on the head/cheek/etc. and hand-holding for his friends.
He LOVES playing cupid. Although heâs never felt romantic love, he believes in it so much and just wants everyone to find the one for them. He will set people up on dates and act as a wing-man or middle man for pretty much any one he meets. If he knows you have a crush on someone, he will be your biggest supporter.
One dramatic hoe. Like over the top about everything honestly. Pretend swooning and melodramatic WOE IS ME~!
âMeteroseuxalâ might be used to describe him. He takes great care of his appearance, and itâs not usual to see him dress up with eyeliner or nail polish and lots of jewelry.
Halcyon is so friendly and warm and smooth that he makes everyone he meets feel like they know him so well, but the truth is that no one really knows him. They donât know about his past, about his abilities, and heâs never had anyone spend the night at his place. Heâs masked, but no one notices it or questions it because heâs curated the façade of some who is open and inviting.
Literally had no idea what to do with his life. He isnât sure where his passion is and, anyway, he never got very good grades in school. Heâs currently a bartender, but he used to work as a stripper and has done some modeling.
I know this is such a long intro guys lol if you actually read the whole thing kudos to you tbh
Potential connections:
Friends
FWB (This plot is taken by two people currently, but is still considered open!)
Past hook-ups, flings, one-night stands
Someone who is annoyed by him bc heâs just a dramatic hoe
co-workers
Someone who used to tutor him in school
Gossip buddies (bc Halcyon likes to gossip like hell)
Someone he can play cupid with/give love advice
Maybe a childhood friend? Someone who lived near him in Scotland?? This would really have to be plotted out of course. Could just be someone he met once a long time ago.
