You might know me already, whether that's from YouTube, DeviantArt back in the day, or my main blog right here on Tumblr.

I've been interacting with Kirblr a bit more lately, and I've decided to spin up a dedicated Kirby sideblog. Why? Because my main blog is INUNDATED with every possible topic, and I have had some experiences on Tumblr that have told me that following a new person and immediately getting blasted by everything all of the time is stressful. I reblog a lot of shit! Some of it is about current events! I don't always tag consistently!

So, in order to separate my Kirbing out from The Horrors for the enjoyment of my fellow borb enthusiasts, this blog exists!

posting about Kirby! Fanart, fanfic updates, headcanon thoughts, stuff like that! Fanart will still be uploaded to main and reblogged from there.

Maybe possibly reblogs of Kirby content that I really like? Those are likely going to just stay on main for now. I think it'll be good if this blog stays largely homegrown.

Thoughts on Hyness

Warning: Discussion of cults, abuse (nonspecific), and spoilers for Heros in Another Dimension.

I know a lot of people who believe he was a truly kind person before he fell into corruption of the cult. I agree! I think it's interesting to see and explore how cults take people who do good and slowly change them for the worst.

Another common headcannon is that Hyness is ancient, as in unimaginably old. I don't think that's necessary. Why can't he be yet another victim of the cult? Sure, he tells the story of how his cult was exiled, and says it with much gusto. But how do we know it's not a story that was passed down to him by those who came before? It was the central reason the cult was made. It wouldn't be a stretch that they turned it into a tale, which was handed down through the generations. Perpetuating the rage against the technology Ancients for centuries, if not millennia. Like a very long, terrible family feud. One that isn't even reciprocated, from the looks of it. We don't hear of any rage against the magicians anywhere except in Star Allies! Even then, it seems like their exile isn't even enforced anymore. Who is to say he is the one who founded the cult?

Personally, I think it would be interesting if Hyness was yet another victim, who later became an abuser upon his rise to power as the cult leader. Perhaps he once had good ideas, plans to change things for the better while still aligning with the old beliefs. But cults have a way of justifying evil actions as good, even necessary. And this is without factoring the Jamba Heart! The story of the cult's origins no doubt produces a lot of anger within its members. It's a story about unjust persecution and forced isolation, a betrayal by people who were once thought of as friends. I imagine Hyness at least held some level of anger because of this tale. When he finds the Jamba Heart? That certainly amplified his rage. Nearly falling completely into corruption. It's only after Kirby and his friends save the Three Mage Sisters in the 100% ending of Heros in Another Dimension does he ever get pulled out of the dark. Saved by the very people who he saved so long ago: the Three Mage Sisters.

I think that's beautiful. That he was saved from being hollowed out by hate and spite by the people who loved him most, because he once loved them. And that, because they still loved him, he found a way to love again. I don't doubt that there will still be a lot of work afterwards to mend bridges. What Hyness did to the girls was terrible, and he likely cause much more harm than what we saw. But, out of the influence of the darkness and with more kind companions (both the Three Mage Sisters and the Star Allies), I feel there is a potential story for redemption in Hyness. That does seem to be what Star Allies implies what happened.

(Also I heard that there was a message from the creator that said Hyness discovered the Jamba Heart in his lifetime rather than always having it, so I tried to include that in my ideas.)

One thing I will always appreciate Fullmetal Alchemist for is the fact that they let Roy Mustang be complicit in genocide.

Mustang is an Atoner figure. Something that plagues Atoner figures is when writers are too precious about the characters we're meant to like to actually let them be guilty of something serious.

The Atoner might be trying to make amends for their involvement in the Great '87 Hotel Massacre, and then three seasons in you find out what happened. And it's like, "I drove a taxi to the hotel, and the KILLER was in it! I ferried the killer to the hotel! That makes me responsible, and now I must atone for being nearby while the killings took place! And also vanquish the real killer who is the villain for this season."

Or maybe the Atoner did do the killings but they were under mind control the whole time and would never, ever have done it in their right mind.

But FMA said no. Mustang, Hawkeye, Hughes, even Armstrong to an extent though he suffered a breakdown and fled during it. They did that shit. They followed their orders and they did that shit. And it haunts them.

Roy did that shit. And his atonement, his grand ambition, is to see everyone responsible for that shit brought to justice for their crimes. Including himself.

That is how you write an atonement plot.
