We Mexican women are asking for your help
Millions of people are being called to join the country’s first all-women labour strike, to demand government action against gender
In Mexico, on average ten women are murdered each day, ten women do not return home, ten families lose their female love ones every single day.
And that’s not the end of the story.
90% of registered femicides go unpunished.
Just on January 2020, 73 femicides occurred in the country.
“On February 10, two Mexican newspapers published leaked photos of the mutilated body of Ingrid Escamilla, [she] was murdered and skinned from head to toe by her boyfriend.”
“On February 15, the body of a seven-year-old girl name Fátima [...] was found in a plastic bag. She had been kidnapped, raped, tortured and had her organs removed.”
We are growing restless, we are angry and tired. But we are no longer afraid.
A feminist group called Las Brujas del Mar (The Witches of the Sea), called all Mexican women to join a labour strike in protest of the rise in the number of femicides that happen in the country, demanding our government and Head of the State to take action.
On March 9th, women will not go to work or school, you will not see women in the streets, restaurants, stores, or on social media. The goal is to have an economical and social impact to show the value of women in our society.
On March 8th, you will see us taking the streets, on March 9th we will be no were to be found.
But we need your help. We need the eyes of the world focusing in our country to increase the pressure in our government. Help us by sharing the news articles of the strike, the images I share below, or your opinion that shows your support for the national strike using the hashtag #SupportYourMexicanSisters (and/or a translation in your language) on social media.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for sharing and supporting us. And to my Mexican sisters reading this: NO SE VA A CAER, LO VAMOS A TIRAR.
