so I got attached to the wrong character and now he's dead
“Nice Does Not Mean Good”
Happy Mother’s Day :)
we’ve been through so much together, you and i
for love, for dean
(read on a03)
Snowflakes float down from the sky, spiraling in midair, landing in Cas’ hair. The metal bench under him is icy, the snow-melt soaking through his pant legs but he barely feels the chill. Inside him a burning has started in the shape of Dean’s name, a tiny snuff of a fire, intensifying with every passing second.
He’s alone, for now, but he can sense Anna’s presence nearby, the ozone-clean scent she leaves behind. Resting his elbows on his knees, Castiel leans forward, covering his face with his palms. Anna’s warning reverberates in his mind, clear and terrified.
You’re starting to love him, Castiel and it will be the death of you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inexplicably, Castiel finds himself drawn to Dean. In the early mornings Castiel flies to Earth when Dean is fast asleep, the only time he is able to find some semblance of peace. Hidden in the shadows obscured by his own ebony wings, Castiel watches him, entranced.
Even in sleep, Dean remains the most beautiful human Castiel has ever seen – the soft rise and fall of his chest, his lips slightly parted, palms pressed together almost in prayer beneath the pillow. His soul shines bright, vibrating a melodic sound, calling out to Castiel’s grace.
Castiel yearns to touch him, to stroke his fingers through Dean’s hair, trace the line of his jaw, over the dusting of freckles on his cheeks. Lust, foreign of a feeling, burdened with the weight of all Dean means to him. It’s not only carnal desire Castiel wants, if it were, this would be easier.
Stirring in sleep, Dean shifts under the bed sheets, sighing soft and nuzzling into his pillow. Murmuring in his sleep, nonsense syllables Castiel can’t make out as words. Dean smacks his lips together and stills, a quiet snore echoing in the room around them.
Castiel settles onto the edge of the windowsill, just out of sight shrouded in darkness. Here he will sit and wait until a few hours now when Dean awakens and brings daylight back into the room. If he could, Castiel would spend a thousand years like this, observing Dean existing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Doubt is a fickle thing. At the first instance of it growing inside him, intertwining with his grace, Castiel leaves. He flies away from Earth, the planes of heaven to the far stretches of the galaxy until he’s outside looking in – far from his brethren and most importantly, Dean. Here, the Milky Way exists as a twirling speck of dust, sparkling with thousands of stars, all in the process of dying, some of which Castiel placed with his own hand, spun into existence from sun-rays, morphed into stardust.
Alone in the middle of space, looking down on the galaxy he helped bring into being, Castiel remembers how finite this all is. Hundreds of thousands of years from now, maybe millions if they’re lucky, the Milky Way will blink out of existence. And all will be forgotten.
Dean Winchester is a blip in the enormity of your existence, why does this one man mean so much to you?
Castiel can’t answer his own mind, why of all the humans in the entirety of creation that it’s Dean that gets to him. In less than a hundred years Dean will die like all the others, gone back to dust and Castiel will live on for millions of years, with only Dean’s memory tied to his grace, an invisible string, keeping Dean with him, always.
He’s not worth losing everything.
An image of Dean’s smile flashes through Castiel’s mind, the blinding shine of his soul, and how he exists and loves without apology. Dean will save the world, he’s going to save everything and Castiel wants to be at his side when he does.
He is worth it, Dean Winchester is worth everything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Billie pounds her fist against the door, and it shakes under the force of the blows. The warding will hold, but not long enough. There isn’t time, they’re going to die here, Dean is going to die and when he does the world will cease to exist. He can feel the terror reverberating from Dean’s soul, not of dying, but the knowledge that if they die, that everyone he loves will die too. Even in his last moments, Dean thinks of others before himself. And right now, here at the end of all things, all Castiel can do is think of him.
His deal with The Empty was made in a spur of the moment decision, knowing inherently that Dean can’t love him how Castiel wants him to. Castiel thought that might save him, but he knows now how naive he was.
Loving Dean isn’t just something he does, it’s who he is. Loving Dean is tied to his very essence, ingrained into the fabric of his grace since the moment he seared his palm to Dean’s arm and raised him from Hell. He lived and loved Dean, and that was enough. All that’s left is to help Dean see the good of who he really is, how his love for the world made Castiel love the same world right along with him.
Because you cared, I cared. I cared about you. I cared about Sam, I cared about Jack… I cared about the whole world because of you.
I love you.
The Empty rushes forward to swallow him whole. Castiel looks to Dean, he always looks to Dean. Their eyes lock and Castiel feels the anguish in Dean’s soul reaching out to him, begging him not to go. It’s too late.
Peace engulfs him and then, he’s gone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eternity is dark, a soundless landscape full of endless sleep. Until, one day, Castiel hears a voice. Quiet at first, shuddered sobs echoing the sound of his name. Familiar, a friend. Dean.
Castiel hones in on Dean’s voice until the force of it fills him, makes him tremble in its intensity. Then all at once, Dean’s words come through loud and clear.
I love you too, Cas. I love you. Please come back to me.
Castiel’s grace soars and lights him up from the inside out. Around him, The Empty burns bright with a white hot light and confused sounds fill the void, awakened beings coming to life in the sudden sun. It’s only a matter of time before The Empty itself shows up, enraged and ready to throw out whoever disturbed its sleep.
Focusing on his grace, the parts of it still tied to Dean despite the distance between them, Castiel sends out a message. He hopes that it’s strong enough that Dean will hear him.
I’ll come back to you, Dean. I’ll always come back to you.
Your Honour,,,,, this man is so touch starved,,,

Duckstiel. Dean and Castiel as ducks. Thanks to @angel_of_thursdays for the encouragement and the idea with the soap opera XD. I think it's a lot of nonsense. 😅
Just some actual destiel things that haunt me:
when Dean and Cas are going after Raphael in s5 and there's that whole 'last night on earth' vibe and Dean tells Cas "two things I know for certain: one, Bert and Ernie are gay. two, you are not gonna die a virgin, not on my watch."
"Cas, not for nothing, but the last person who looked at me like that? I got laid."
FROM THE SAME EPISODE, when Dean is ready to surrender to the ~Apocalypse and Cas shoves him up against a wall, seething, "I gave EVERYTHING for you, and this is what you give to me???"
"I'm hunted, I rebelled, and I did it, all of it, for you."
all of "The Man Who Would Be King" in its entirety, not a second less, but ESPECIALLY when Cas narrates "and the worst part was Dean, trying so hard to be loyal with every instinct telling him otherwise" while the shot lingers on him staring at Dean, JUST PINING AWAY.
the entire Purgatory arc of season 8 🙏🙏🙏
THIS NO GOOD, RUINOUS LOOK CAS GIVES DEAN IN SEASON 9 WHEN DEAN'S BREAKING UP WITH HIM AND SAM:
when the camera pulls back on this gaze that lasts approximately forever:
when Cas dies in season 7 and Dean keeps his dang trenchcoat
THAT HE THEN RETURNS WHEN CAS IS RESURRECTED, saying (okay, in a cut line, but it was in the promo!) "Part of me always believed you'd come back."
in season 8, when Cas is being controlled by the angels and Naomi creates a simulation where he's forced to kill thousands and thousands of Deans, but he still can't kill the real one
lol Dean really made Cas a mixtape of his favorite Led Zeppelin songs
THIS. WHAT THE HECK IS THIS:
the fanfic gap of 9x06
when Amara is taking Casifer and Dean says, so worried, "Cas?" in the most awful voice possible
"He manipulated him. He made him promises, said 'Paradise on Earth,' and Cas bought it. And you know what it got him? It got him dead! Now you may be able to forget about that, BUT I CAN'T!" Ahhhh, the ANGER. THE GRIEF.
"I left, but you didn't stop me" + Dean praying, "I should've stopped you. You're my best friend, and I just let you go." THE GROWTHHHH.
"The one thing I want... it's something I know I can't have" / "You are the most selfless, loving human being I will ever know" / "You changed me, Dean" / "I love you." 😭😭
[takes a deep breath]
i should not have expected better from the supernatural finale. i knew i shouldn’t have expected better. i knew this! but honestly, my expectations weren’t even very high. i anticipated mediocrity. i anticipated that they’d drop the ball on deancas. i knew we’d get some stupid schmaltzy brother moments™ and i knew there’d be some manufactured attempts at sentiment that didn’t land. i could maybe get past the ugly wig and the insane number of montages and the heavy-handed callbacks to the pilot.
what i’m having an almost unbelievably hard time accepting is what happened to dean winchester. i loved that boy. i loved him SO much, the way you love the character that you latch onto when you’re young and depressed and trying to figure out how to be a person. and it really, really fucking hurts my feelings to have the show look at him and look at his arc and say, you know what? all those times he was suicidal, all those times he thought he was a grunt whose only use was blunt violence and protecting his brother? yeah, that was good actually! we take back every time we seemed to imply that it would be healthy progress for dean to learn that he has more to offer this world than that.
the absolute incoherence of this choice just makes me want to scream. i’m under no illusions that supernatural has ever been particularly narratively coherent! trust me, i know its grasp on arcs and themes and continuity has always been tenuous at the very best. but what was the fucking point of literally any of the show if he was going to go out like that? i’ve always argued with people who wanted the show to end with swan song, but this finale has me so incandescent with rage that i would honestly have preferred it end there! at least swan song performed the very basic narrative act of having the characters end the story in a place that was different from where they began.
what was the point. what was the point!!! of any of it! why did they ever open up the thematic cans of worms that they did? why go out of your way to illustrate that hunting is toxic and dangerous and rots away your ability to feel happiness, only to have dean die on a random hunt without ever getting a chance to really live his life? why portray john as abusive, as dean’s taskmaster drill sergeant who warped and traumatized him for life, only to have john pop up in heaven right next fucking door to dean?
i already said this on twitter but it really grinds my fucking gears that this finale felt like dabb grabbed a random person off the street, made them watch the pilot, and then told them “hey, write a spec script for what you think the finale of this show would look like fifteen seasons later. no, you can’t watch any other episodes.”
it hurts me, really really a lot, to see dean go out like that. it’s not cool in the year 2020 to say this, maybe, but i loved him so much. he meant so, so much to me. and he deserved to live his life and work his normie job and try new recipes and meet his friends and stretch his legs and learn how to be a person without the shadow of death constantly hanging over his head. and i’m just really sad that apparently everything he learned and struggled with and fought for meant nothing in the end.
Reblog only if you miss Mr. Misha Collins already and think he deserved better
in the spirit of channeling our negative emotions into positive actions...
over the past few days, our community has donated thousands of dollars to the trevor project (via the castiel project) and the national alliance on mental illness (via the dean winchester is love fundraiser). to have two of the best characters in television history meet their demise in such horrific unnecessary ways is a tragedy, but while they didn’t get the happy ending they deserved, cas and dean are still changing people’s lives and inspiring us to be better, to do better. however, there is one more character that deserved their happy ending…eileen.
eileen was a compassionate woman, a badass hunter, a loyal friend, and an incredible example of why media representation for people with disabilities matters. she expanded the world of supernatural to include the deaf/HOH community as heroes of their own story - heroes that can go toe to toe with the winchesters themselves. as shoshannah stern put it, “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a deaf person kick ass the way that Eileen does and I’ve certainly never played that before. Deaf or disabled people are usually the victim, not the one who rescues.” eileen was such an important figure in the show these last few seasons and for her to be left out of the final narrative doesn’t sit right with me, so to honor her (and shoshannah!), i hope you’ll join me in celebrating her spn legacy by donating to the national association of the deaf - the united states’ premiere civil rights organization of, by, and for the deaf/HOH. they use donations to promote ASL and champion the legal rights and interests of the american deaf/HOH community, which i believe that eileen would be all about (especially since shoshannah’s a NAD advocate herself!) unfortunately, there’s no way to set up a goal page for this fundraiser, but if you make a donation you have the option to give money in honor of someone specific, or leave a comment/explanation for your donation. just write that your donation is in honor of shoshannah and her character on supernatural, eileen leahy, then reblog this post to signal boost it and encourage others to help out, too! if you think eileen deserves the world, then let’s help her and others like her change the world. (special thanks to @heller-jensen and @onlybackfordestiel for their advice and support!)

It’s been awhile since I posted a bad edit....here you go.
I don’t know how to explain to people that the SPN finale was bad writing.
Like yes, you can like it, but it was poorly written and not by this show’s normal poor writing standards.
No one is saying you can’t like it or that you shouldn’t like it. We’re simply saying that the writing was bad.
I like plenty of things that are poorly written, but at least I can admit that that’s what it is.
The SPN finale left important plot points unresolved
It left us with too many questions
It left too many things implied/unconfirmed
It was anticlimactic compared to the episode preceding it (which is a BIG no no in entertainment)
It called attention to details that didn’t actually matter
It spent too much time on events that didn’t matter
It actually regressed the development of its main characters
It ignored possible easy solutions to the problems the characters faced
And most dishearteningly, it contradicted the shows central message about what makes a family.
I wish people could accept that just because you like something, it doesn’t make the thing good.
Just imagine
The finale starts the very same way it did. Sam and Dean are happy and domestic and now have a dog.
They go to the pie festival where they start talking about everyone they have lost and everything they sacrificed.
They end up talking about Cas. Dean is avoiding that one final conversation.
They end up going into a hunt. There is no random season 1 vampire. After a really though fight one of the vamps stabs Dean before Sam finishes off.
Dean tries to start his “I’m dying” speech when lights start exploding. I don’t have to explain how this entrance goes.
The barn doors open and Castiel is there.
“Cas?”
“Hello Sam”
Cas starts explaining how he has been helping Jack fix heaven. He heals Dean without touching him or looking at him gay angel is mad but is not about to let Dean die like this. He turns around to leave.
“Cas wait”
Dean goes on about how he can’t just leave again.
“Look man. What you said. We were about to die and I couldn’t think”
He doesn’t confess his love right here, this man needs a while to acknowledge he has feelings but it is heavily implied.
“Just don’t leave again without letting me say something this time”
Castiel just looks at him and goes “Fine”
Cut to the long and happy epilogue montage.
They are all in the bunker, Sam comes out with a bag. Eileen is waiting in the stairs.
Sam and Dean are on a hunt. The monsters blow up. They turn around and Jack is there awkwardly saying hi.
Sam and Eileen do research together.
Dean and Cas go hunting together.
Sam proposes to Eileen. She says yes. Both on sign language.
All their living friends go to the wedding. Dean is the best man. Cas awkwardly marries them. Jack is the flower girl.
Dean Cas and the dog emerge from the impala and look onto a rebuilt Harvelle’s roadhouse only the road says Winchester’s roadhouse. They start setting up. It is Jack’s wedding present.
Eileen is clearly pregnant. She and Sam are decorating a nursery. You can see guarding signs in pastel tones and plushies with meta references.
Dean is running through a hospital, there is blood in his face. He arrives to a room to see Sam and Eileen with their new baby. The idiot ran all the way from a hunt to see his nephew.
Hunters come and go from the roadhouse. Same with Castiel between doing god stuff with Jack.
Jody and Donna go visit Sam and Eileen. The baby is wearing plaid (because what else).
Claire and Kaia are drinking with Dean. Castiel arrives. They have been getting more and more physically intimate every time we see them.
The whole family is celebrating Christmas. Jody, Donna and their girls are there. Same for Charlie and her gf. Bobby is playing with Sam Jr.
There is a knock at the door. It is Rowena bearing gifts. The queen of hell takes Christmas off to see her adopted children.
Dean is playing with a slightly older Sam Jr.
Next time we see him Castiel is at the roadhouse wearing Winchester plaid.
Sam is helping his kid with homework there are both textbooks and lore books on the table.
At some point the dog stops appearing.
A hunter is drinking coffee on Sam and Eileen’s living room while they look through some books. In the background you can see all the FBI cellphones.
Dean plays pool in the roadhouse with Cas by his side.
Sam and Dean visit Jody and Donna who are now retired together.
At some point they go to Donatello’s funeral. The camera goes up implying he went to heaven in the end.
Sam and Dean are bickering in the kitchen. Eileen laughs. Cas questions his life choices. Jack and a tween Sam Jr. are outside talking. Jack might be god but he is also the kid’s older brother.
Bobby’s funeral. Many hunters are there. Dean delivers a speech. Ends up saying he will see him someday.
Dean teaches teenage Sam Jr. how to drive in the impala. It goes as well as you can imagine.
They all have family lunch together.
Castiel heals Dean. Sexual tension has gone away. They are an actual old married couple now.
Sam Jr. graduates college the whole family is there to celebrate. You can see the tattoo in his arm.
This kid is having the best of both worlds plus a loving family.
Hunters arrive in a hurry to the roadhouse. We go into Dean and Cas’s bedroom. Sam is holding his hand. Cas is sitting on the other side with Jack standing beside him.
Now old man Dean gets to give his emotional speech. We all cry like we were supposed to.
After he dies surrounded by his family the camera turns. Cas and Jack are no longer there.
Dean arrives in heaven. He is still in his bedroom. Jack is there to welcome him.
Down on the heaven roadhouse all his loved ones are waiting for Dean.
Mary gives him the longest hug.
Same with original Bobby.
Everyone is there for the reunion. Jo, Ellen, original Charlie (who jokes about them getting another Charlie because they missed her so much), Kevin (In heaven as he deserves), Pamela, Adam, Benny (Somehow). John Winchester doesn’t deserve to be in here but if he is he is in the background.
Dean turns to the door and there is a silhouette in a trench coat.
He runs towards Cas because its been a while since he could run like that.
Now we get the kiss. It is as beautiful and tender as we imagined. And deserved.
Everyone leaves them be. Jack has been updating them on Destiel for the past 30 odd years.
Back on earth we get old man Sam (a believable old man Sam) mourning his brother on the Impala.
Dean and Cas go on a ride in the impala.
Sam dies with his kid by his side. It is implied Eileen passed away at some point. After he is gone Jack puts a hand on Sam Jr’s shoulder reassuring him their dad is happy and went to reunite with both his brother and the love of his life.
Dean parks the Impala. He and Cas get off the car. Castiel stays behind. Dean goes to the bridge railing.
“Hey Sammy”
They embrace. Castiel is there with them. Everyone is happy.
it’s not as exciting as secret passion in the woods, but it is stronger. it lasts longer.
[ID: Four gifs of Dean and Cas from the CW’s Supernatural 1: Cas and Dean reunited. Cas steps forward with his arms outstretched and Dean falls into his embrace. The text reads: “Love didn’t just happen to us”. 2: Dean with his arm around Cas’ shoulders as they walk down a dark alley. Dean’s looking at Cas as he talks, and Cas turns to gaze back. The text reads: “We built it slowly”. 3: Dean fixing Cas’ shirt collar. Cas furrows his brows and looks confused (and maybe a bit affronted). The text reads: “Over the years”. 4: A low-angle shot of Cas standing above Dean, cupping his cheek. Dean reaches out with one hand to grasp Cas’ wrist. The text reads: “Stone by stone”. END ID]
