every day i am thankful to ancient humans for the domestication of the cat. fucking genius idea. agriculture was a good one too btw but you really outdid yourselves with the cat thing
Good news: if you’re currently laying around and not producing anything, you are a credit to your species.
It’s recently been found that even hive insects rest. Bees will play with colorful toys. Ants sleep for about 1 minute but they do it so frequently it amounts to a few hours per day. Even trees take breaks.
The only things that work without rest are machines; literally everything that lives requires rest.
EVERYTHING THAT LIVES REQUIRES REST. STOP JUDGING YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING A ROBOT.
robots require very frequent breaks! welding machines generally have it programmed in that they can’t run so long they melt themselves. ive overseen two different manufacturing robots now and each of them were fragile, finicky idiots that require constant maintenance and repair. they pause in between moves, in between jobs. you’re always keeping an eye on programming errors, on coolant levels, on heat. you’re always pulling bits of scrap out of joints, sweeping up debris, washing off nozzles and untangling hoses. and even then it snaps a chain and takes a whole morning’s vacation.
even robots need downtime.
I once joked about this back when twitter existed and a Twitter Dominatrix told me that she'd done it plenty of times.

Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy 1991
"I'm Too Sexy" is a novelty song by English pop band Right Said Fred, released in July 1991 as their debut single from their first album, Up (1992). The song was written by band members and brothers Fred Fairbrass and Richard Fairbrass with Rob Manzoli, and produced by TommyD. The idea for the song came about when the Fairbrass brothers were running a gym in London where, according to Richard, there was "lots of narcissism and posing". One day, he took his shirt off and started singing "I'm too sexy for my shirt" in front of a mirror as a joke. The band originally recorded it as an indie rock song. It was rejected by multiple record companies before they played it to radio plugger Guy Holmes. He was initially unimpressed after playing it on his car stereo, but his passengers latched on to the song's "I'm a model, you know what I mean" hook, and Holmes asked the band if they could rework it as a dance track.
It made its way to the number-one position in Australia, Austria, Canada (The Record chart), Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, and the US, where the single topped the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart. The song reached the next best chart position at number two in Canada (the RPM Top Singles chart), Norway, and the UK. Additionally, it was a top-10 hit in Belgium (#3), Ecuador (#5), Greece (#5), and Sweden (#8).
The song has been interpolated in Sugababes' song "Get Sexy", Taylor Swift's single "Look What You Made Me Do", Drake's "Way 2 Sexy", and Beyoncé's "Alien Superstar".
"I'm Too Sexy" received a total of 73% yes votes!

"Self care" is not necessarily a spa day or buying luxury toiletries. That's capitalism taking over a basic human necessity. True self care is when you take care of yourself the way you so often take care of others: it's rest, comfort, and valuing yourself. Do that. emojis: black heart, blue heart, masked, spoon
Disgusted by the fact that my dad kept pronouncing wiwi as “oui oui” and spoke to the poor baby in a French accent and implied wiwi was French. Absolutely vile.
Look how sad he is
Wait, it's not "Oui Oui"? How is it pronounced?
Like a tiny baby kitty would say it. Kind of nasally. It’s a noise, not a word
False. Here he is after not hearing the F word for a week

Hi if you somehow weren't able to study raccoons what would your animal of choice have been?
Sorry if you get asked that a lot
Coyotes.
A lot of my interest in raccoons has to do with their existence within anthropogenic landscapes and how they interact with humans. And also how they are deeply misunderstood. That can apply to coyotes too. And they are very cute!! They just aren’t as smart and they can be harder to find for observational studies (aka I’m lazy as fuck.)
Anyway, here is a coyote I grabbed by hand while the cops and animal control watched

Experimented a bit with a new way of detailing the tiles. Kinda like it? This particular piece took a hell of a lot of work. I’d love if you shared the vibes it’s giving off, for research purposes 💖

The first alternative sprites for Medusa's default outfit.
Unlike Athena, most of Medusa's sprites are positioned on the right-hand side of the screen, with her left-facing sprites appearing only five times throughout the game. Because of this, we ended up creating two versions of her default outfit: one facing left and one facing right, and made her snake hair reacted along with her.
These left-facing sprites are primarily used during the many scenes where Athena and Medusa explore Olympus University together, meeting Athena's friends, exchanging wits with the ever-snarky Artemis, or crossing paths with the unsettling Professor Poseidon.

Been feeding baby goats that a mama rejected, and having Jonathan and Martha Kent thoughts.
Jon and Martha find the Kryptonian ship in their corn field, but when they open it the baby is not well. He’s traveled light years, and even at the fastest speeds, it was days or even weeks. What fluid was sustaining him has been gone for some time.
They work a farm. They know what a sick baby looks like.
They take the baby inside anyway. It’s far too late for anything to be open, so they break out the milk replacer for the livestock. The bottle they find has had a goat kid sucking on it, but they wash it good, because what other choice do they have?
The baby doesn’t take to the bottle well. He barely eats.
They both know a lack of appetite is a death knell.
“I can’t watch a baby die,” Martha says. She’s done it before. She and Jon struggled to have kids. The closest they got — well. It’s a hard memory for them both.
“I know, love.” Jon’s a good old country boy. He grew up being told it’s a man’s job to take the burden. He’ll take it now. “Go to bed. I’ll stay with him.”
Sure, they both know Martha won’t sleep, but at least she won’t have to see.
Jon takes the wee babe out onto the porch. He tries to poke more milk down him. Rubs his chest, bounces him, pushes the bottle past his lips, every damn thing he can do. The hours are long and hard, but he would never forgive himself if he didn’t try.
The baby continues to fade.
The eastern sky starts to lighten.
“I’m sorry, little fellow,” Jonathan whispers. It’s not long now. He can feel it in his bones. He’s held plenty of animals as they died. He’s waiting for that long last exhale. “Sorry you came all this way and this is your welcome. Can’t even enjoy the sunrise.”
He told himself he wouldn’t cry until the boy was gone. Wasn’t fair, that his last moments would be a man crying instead of comforting him, but Jon does his best to do both at the same time. He cradles the poor little thing even as his shoulders shake.
The sun breaks over the horizon, and light floods the porch. Jon closes his eyes against it and his tears.
It’s a hiccup that is the first sign something changed. Then the wiggling.
Jon nearly drops the baby in shock.
When he looks down, the little boy sure hasn’t died. He’s got this rosy little glow to his cheeks and his eyes are bright. He’s throwing those little hands around like he’s trying to figure out how they work, but he seems to be trying to reach for the sun.
Jon just stares at him until the baby gets frustrated enough with his clumsy limbs that he opens his mouth to tell the world about it.
The baby’s cry is so powerful Jon falls right out of his rocker. It’s a miracle he doesn’t launch the poor thing.
Only thing he can think to do with a screaming baby that’s about to take his eardrums out is shove that bottle right in that open mouth.
The little boy shuts right up and clings to the bottle for dear life as he drinks with a fury.
When Martha comes stumbling out wild-eyed in her jammies, Jon’s sitting on the porch with a grin as bright as the dawn despite the fact his ears are still ringing.
“Turns out he has a good set of lungs.”
One of my favourite things when reading fanfiction is when you click with an author's style so much that you adore the fanfiction you're reading, and once it's over you need more. So you go to their page and hope that there's more for any fandom you might know- only there isn't any. They've written for other fandoms you aren't familiar with and never would've thought about before.
But you're down so bad for their style and talent that they got you wading in like:
