She escorts him to the door, his head on a swivel the entire time taking in the eclectic yet cozy interior that stretches beyond the bedroom throughout the entire castle. She stops only briefly at a chest on the way, pulling out his pillager jacket, cleaned of blood though still torn from where the arrows stuck. They continue forward to the main entrance, but as she tests her hand on the door handle, she… hesitates.
It’s a stupid question. He won't be. He fears that his brief pause may give that away- but still he lies. What else is he supposed to do?
They clear up monsters in the perimeter. Of which, there are a lot. She notes that even sharpshooter looks pressed about it, peering through the gaping hole in the castle with a furrowed brow and pursed lips. Skilled as he may be, she can't just send him out into the night like this…
She says the damage isn't so bad, it shouldn't take her long to fix, and after the day he just had he would probably rest a bit more anyway.
He stares at her, wide eyed and incredulous. His default response, she's beginning to gather. She opens her mouth to argue his departure further, but flinches when the sharpshooter draws his bow with a sudden fluid motion.
The familiar thwip of a loosed arrow cuts through the air… followed by a soft thump behind her. She turns to see a fallen creeper just outside the entrance, thankful arrow in the center of it's face… Ah.
In honesty, he does accept the offer in some small part due to the monsters smattering the terrain ahead, but it’s the much larger problem that fuels the perhaps ill-advised decision. The reality of his situation settles heavy in his stomach like bricks as he stares out into the night.
He was just to be executed today. The thought makes him nauseous though he maintains his composure. He can’t just show back up at the mansion now- evoker and captain dead, but he returns? And empty handed on top of it all? How does he explain this? He'd be walking straight to his death, surely.
So he’ll take the time, because he needs to come up with something quick.
