We all know about the choir boys, but what would happen if they could also play instruments?
Two days ago, we were watching a Tom Cruise movie called American Made with my mum and dad, (I really liked it), and there was this soundtrack, mixed of classics that I absolutely adored, and when I listened to it again, the idea of the Lord of the Flies Orchestra popped into my mind.
Here is the melody:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmRDzxf6roE
I just wanted them to play that music, so here it goes:
Jack - first violin. I literally see him in front of my eyes, playing violently, proudly and passionately. And FIRST VIOLIN, because that’s basically the most important position. The instrument can produce beautiful high notes which would compliment his #C. He considers Ralph his biggest rival, and thinks he wants to steal his place, even though they play different instruments. The one thing Jack is the proudest of is that he can play everything and anything without sheet music. Only uses it during rehearsals, but when it’s time for the performance, he completely forgets that sheet music should be used, he just goes with the flow, and, to be fair, he is excellent.
Ralph - viola. Similar to the violin, but still not the same, it can produce lower sounds. (I didn’t want him to play second violin, to emphasize the difference between him and Jack, but they still have a connection so I went with viola instead.) Sometimes he plays around on the piano, too. Jack is jealous of this because, although he is also quite good with the piano, Ralph is better than him.
Piggy - double bass. First, I wanted him to be the conductor, but I realised Jack would never let that happen, and would never listen to him, and let him take charge. Double bass suits him well, I think, it can produce nice low sounds, which are definitely not as distinguishable in a melody (at least not for non-musicians) as the violin, but still is extremely important, I think you definitely would miss it if we took it out of the melody. (Please cope with me, I do not know anything about music besides the fact that I love it ^^”)
Simon - flute. I was basically sure Simon would play flute, it has a delicate, soft sound, and what is Simon if not delicate and soft? I see him just practising calmly and quietly when all the other orcehstra members are arguing about what to play first, who is the most important member of the group, which is the most beautiful sounding instrument etc. Simon is just sitting there, looking around, then shrughs and just plays something nice in hope he can calm everyone down. Usually it works, but sometimes it doesn’t.
Maurice - trumpet. This instruments just screams Maurice to me. Loud, funny and sometimes annoying, but it can’t be replaced and it gives a grandiose, solemn edge to every music. He likes to annoy his fellow orchestra members by sneaking up to them from behind and then playing a loud note. This makes them rather furious, especially Roger.
Roger - percussions. He is great in every single one of them, and the main reason why I chose these for him is that the drum sounds in a melody are usually in the background, they give a base to the music, but when it gets loud and steps out of the shadows, it goes BOOOM. Just like Roger. He really enjoys playing timpani, but he is most in his element when he is able to use cymbals and the bass drum.
Sam n Eric: cellos. Like the 2 cellos :D I’ve been thinking so much about what instrument to give them, but then this idea popped up. They sit side by side, but sometimes when they want to cause a little trouble, one of them sits on the right side of the orchestra, and the other sits on the left, so their melody becomes a chaos a little bit. Otherwise, they are in perfect harmony without even trying.
/The navy officer retired and became the conductor :D/
