Data is the only fictional character I'd want to be friends with
I think criticisms of post-reboot Captain Kirk sometimes go too far in suggesting that original flavour Captain Kirk isn’t a male-directed power fantasy at all, because he totally is.
Like, yes, he’s not the sleazy womaniser that contemporary interpretations make him out to be, but, well, add it up:
bookish nerd who doesn’t like to fight, but kicks seven shades of ass when he’s forced to
defeats supercomputers and gods by quoting first-year philosophy classes at them
regularly gets to style on other men for being less socially enlightened than he is
constantly receives advances from hot alien babes through absolutely no fault of his own
beholden to a vaguely defined but all-encompassing duty that gives him an honourable excuse to bail on any serious emotional entanglement
There’s a very specific type in play here, is what I mean to say!
Good post
For science:
I’d like to see which Shakespeare plays people were required to read in high school (not that you chose to read, but ones that were actually assigned and discussed), so reblog or comment!
Studied English, still haven't read a single one
I got my hair cut short yesterday and it just makes me feel so valid and positive! I wanted to say hi into the void of tumblr, you are fabulous, you are valid ❤️
Short hair euphoria ❤️
“what track would you go into if you were in starfleet?”
dude I just want to be some dumbass civilian on deep space nine. dressing like a black light carpet in a 90’s arcade but like in a slutty futuristic way. maybe I’ve got a job cleaning the station or something but ultimately not doing shit all day. getting drunk at quark’s bar. getting fucked by my alien boyfriend. free healthcare. I don’t give a FUCK.
hey reblog this and in the tags talk about what you’d do in the Star Trek universe that’s something besides starfleet
Live on earth in a socialist utopia what else?? I'd just go full on cottagecore, learning crafts, doing art, growing plants, get lost in the forests, you'd never see me or my space gf again.
Reblog if you're a Star Trek fan (any and all series and movies) and you're female.
I want to see how many of us there are :)
The results should not surprise anyone.

look I REFUSE to believe this hasn’t been done before, but ive never SEEN it done, so here you go.
Your work is invaluable
“We as a fandom have to talk about-” No. No we don’t. You can talk about it if you want to. That’s fine, if that’s how you fandom then go for it. I hope it works out for you because I want you to enjoy your fandom experience. But if I’m in fandom for reasons that’s counter to, then I have no obligation to talk about it. I don’t have to talk about anything except what I want to.
“Okay but you have to talk about your fave’s flaws-” No! No I don’t! I have to be able to acknowledge those flaws when they come up. I have to be able to admit that my character has flaws, and accept when others talk about those flaws. But I don’t have to talk about them if I don’t want to. If I want to only focus on the better aspects of my fave, even if that means just shallowly talking about how hot they are, I can. That’s my choice, that’s how I’ve decided to enjoy them.
Fandom is meant to be fun. Fandom is meant to be a hobby. I don’t have to talk about any aspect of my favorite story or ship or character or writer or anything if I don’t want to. You know what’s not fun? Having to talk about the ways my favorite thing is bad every time I want to talk about it. Having to point out my favorite thing’s flaws instead of the things that makes me enjoy it. Having to disclaim before I get to sing something’s praises because “yeah I know it’s shit BUT”. No. I can know something is bad without needing to talk about it.
Idk dude this sounds like a really great rationalization for wanting to ignore the parts of something that are problematic and not wanting to have to unpack that
Listen. If the way you fandom is to spend all of your time on critical analysis and unpack everything that makes the thing you like problematic, if that’s what you’re about, then go for it. I mean it. If that’s how you get on, then you do you, and I stand by what I said above, I hope it works out for you. I want everyone to be able to enjoy their fandom experience, even if I can’t wrap my head around why the way they fandom is enjoyable.
But I don’t owe anyone anything. If I don’t want to have a big public discussion about how problematic my favorite thing is, then I don’t have to. That’s my choice. I don’t have to perform a requisite level of discourse to be able to enjoy something; I can just enjoy it, and no one else gets a say in that.
It’s not a rationalization, it’s reality. I can fandom sans discourse if that’s the way I choose to fandom. End of sentence.
Of course you don’t have to, you literally don’t, you can do whatever the fuck you want lol
However morally speaking you are obligated to both enjoy and be aware of the negative aspects of a piece of art.
That is, unless you disagree that we all carry the moral obligation to question, examine and change bigoted patterns of thought. Being a good person doesn’t stop when it comes to your fandoms.
We all understand that media can shape our worldview right? Especially when we are younger it can impact how we view ourselves and our relation to others. Which is why good representation is so important and bad or no representation is so harmful.
But the same goes for fandom. Fandom too is a type of medium, it’s its own kind of art. Through discourse and writing and drawing you are creating a piece of media that is consumed by all those in the fandom.
In other words, fandom absolutely deeply impacts how we see ourselves, others and the world, the same way any type of media foesIf we remain uncritical of problematic aspects in a show, we repeat that aspect.
The fandom response actively shapes how people interact with a piece of media. It shapes what media is produced, it can change the direction of a show, it deeply influences the discourse and let’s not forget that many who engage in fandom _are_ teenagers whose worldview is still malleable and impressionable. Our favourite TV show or movie is a huge influence on us.
You don’t have to do anything, but it be sure nice if you wouldn’t hide your head in the sand and refuse to adress or acknowledge toxic elements, just because its about sth you like for a change.
My morals are not determined by how much time I spend performing fandom-approved criticism of my favorite media in a public space, and my enjoyment is not prerequisite on the same. I certainly don’t owe anything to someone who thinks that my decision to be critical in private and on my own terms is equivalent to ‘sticking my head in the sand’, especially as they clearly didn’t read my post and decided it was more important to jerk off their own performance of wokeness instead.
The only people that earnestly deny responsibility for the impact of their creative decisions are Nazis. Be smarter than that. It's not a high bar.
It's not private when you're posting publicly on the internet where everyone can read it. Tumblr isn't your home, or your friends, it's a public platform and different rules of engagement apply than if you talk shit at home with a closed circle of friends who understand the context.
If I scream the n-word at a public place, does it not count as racism if I was just there to have fun and engage in my stamp collecting hobby? Or maybe your responsibility to not be a shitty person doesn't stop when it comes to fandoms.
I don't care about virtue signalling or performing wokeness, there's obviously a threshold and some things are more appropriate than others and we all hate wokescolds etc etc, but I care about the fact that everyone has a basic responsibility for the shit they put out there in the world.
Which is what you are trying to deny.
it's 2020 and i'm still seeing the awful takes calling winry abusive. i could write paragraphs about how wrong and damaging that take is but i'm sure anyone with critical thinking skills would be able to deduce that for themselves. IT. IS. MANGA. SLAPSTICK.
literally after every "slapstick" scene it cuts back to "real life" and the wound/blood is gone. that's becuase it's not actually happening... it's a manga gag only !!!! it's fine to have opinions about slapstick itself but hating a character for it is not okay! almost every other character has slapstick with ed or even canonically beats him up, yet i NEVER see them get the same criticism winry does.
at this point, just say you hate women and go 🤚
Wtf people?
I mean... kinda weird to play partner abuse as slapstick though
Like yeah Winry is (obviously) not supposed to be abusive but it's still a little weird that her using violence against her partner is framed as cute and endearing by Hiromi Arakawa

Buncha Saru draws from twitter, mostly me trying to figure out how to draw him😄
I love him so much
The mood is my eyes are heavy and I'm sleepy but also I wanna draw cows like right now.
Reminder for myself in the morning: draw cows.
I drew cows
I love cows
mutuals do this
Is this supppsed to be funny? Is this some kind of sarcasm or irony that I don't get? Beacause if this is serious this is so wrong and cruel.A thing it's insult and be angry with a rich person that is cruel and traet bad the others. But bullying a person only beacause it's rich? Even if is a very sweet person? No.No.No. Is so wrong! It's not different from any king of bullism and it's disgusting.
Can someone please explain to me if this is serious or not?
You can't bully a rich person, don't worry
If you're rich, like really rich, you can literally rape children, influence elections and fuck over entire countries without consequences
Bullying from us is not a problem to them
Which is of course the joke
They are literally turning our planet into an inhospitable wasteland while they fuck off to Mars and we are helpless to stop them ha :')
