Wild Pokémon Appeared!
At Boston Comic Con 2016, interviewer (and fantastic Deadshot cosplayer) KIA Cosplay and myself met up with a wonderful group of Pokemon/gijinka/Playboy bunny cosplayers led by HanniBanani Cosplay, who were gracious enough to spend sometime with us and talk about their costumes and their love for Pokemon. Check out below for some fantastic shots by FirstPerson …

BACK AT IT AGIN WITH THE AWKWARD INTERVIEWS
I dabbed, gave the camera finger guns, and snarled my fangs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You are not entitled to a photo of a cosplayer
The 2016 Otakon in Baltimore had been a fantastic send off for the convention. Though I was staff I had an amazing time, and it was heart wrenching realizing that we were moving to DC for an unknown period of time. The largest issue however was that when the sun was up, it was normally over 100F around the con center, and for many cosplayers who had planned on costumes that ended up not being friendly to this sort of temperature, it was even harsher. This resulted in many people that I know cutting their time short in costume, or were forced to take numerous breaks indoors between their shoots or from just walking the humid con-floor.
One of the major complaints I heard from quite a few friends, and also dealt with myself, were people being asked for photos, and refused to take no for an answer. And it could range from desperate pleading to being completely rude.
“It will just take a second.” “Please I just really like your costume.” “Come on it’s just one photo.” “I’d really appreciate it. It’ll be quick.” “Why are you being so stuck up?” “Wow are you too good for me?”
This is something that I’ve heard, witnessed, and have suffered through many times as a cosplayer at a con, but after a companion was hassled needlessly for a photo while she was looking for a place to keep from passing out, I felt the need to speak out. This is my stern reminder to anyone at a con looking to photograph a cosplayer:
Cosplayers are people. They are also attendees, like you. They do not owe you their time, nor a ‘quick’ photograph. You are not entitled to a photo of them simply because they are a cosplayer. No means leave them alone.
So if you ask a cosplayer for a photo and they turn you down for whatever reason (which they do not need to give you), then be respectful and go back to enjoying the con. Your day will not be ruined by not snapping that one photo of a cosplayer, and you will be helping a person by giving them the space they need at that point in time.
To my cosplay community friends: You are allowed to turn down anyone for a photo for any reason. If they are unwilling to take a no, you are also allowed to walk the hell away. You do not owe anyone your time, especially if you are rushed or uncomfortable.
