I don’t want to see the good in my abuser.

I don’t want them to show me kindness.

I sure as hell don’t want their help.

I know it’s stubborn, but kindness only confuses me. It makes me feel like maybe I exaggerated my pain; as if my brain concocted events just to claim abuse.

Worst of all, it makes me feel like I need to forgive them.

I want to be able to say they were and will always be a horrible person; it’s much easier for my mind to categorize people in extremes.

Their intermittent kindness feels like a trap.

I think I find a solemn comfort in believing that certain people are undoubtedly evil.

I know things are hard, but you are worth it. Maybe the head is telling you that you aren’t, but you are. Recovery is an option, it is always an option. Choosing to better yourself and recognizing what you are doing is wrong is hard, but I am proud of you. You are working so hard, don’t be so hard on yourself.

You’re entitled to your anger. You’re entitled to your bitterness. It doesn’t make you as bad as the people who hurt you. It doesn’t make you abusive to finally lash out and snap at your abusers. It’s a recognized and common tactic for abusers to accuse their victims of being the perpetrator of the toxicity and abuse. It’s not your fault though. You aren’t as bad as them just because they finally pushed you to the breaking point.

You aren’t a bad person or a “bad victim” for your justified anger. You don’t have to carry any guilt if the final straw ended in you telling someone how they hurt you.  You aren’t the bad guy for resenting the way you were treated. You aren’t deserving of it because you raised your voice or said harsh words.

You get to be upset. You get to be human.

It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010) - Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck

I think this movie deals with the topic of mental illness very well, without being too heavy, but in a sensitive way. It’s deep and it makes you think a lot, but there are some funny scenes as well. If you ever feel sad, watch this, it’ll make you feel better.

Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts are great, they really got into their roles. I loved how all the characters were well-developed  and how each one of them represented different mental illnesses.  

The musical interludes basically made the entire movie.

The setting is basically the same during the whole movie: a psychiatric hospital. However, the colors and the nice cinematography make everything seem cute and not-boring.

When I was around 14 I used to get really sad sometimes, so I watched this film and it really helped me. I also read the novel written by Ned Vizzini, which was based on his own life. I recently found out that he commited suicide in 2013 and I am devastated. When you feel sad, please don’t do anything stupid.

A few facts about BPD (borderline personality disorder) Part 1

• People with BPD feel emotions stronger than anyone else. It is believed to be the worst psychological issue for emotions in history by psychiatrists. People with BPD may feel an intense depression instead of just sadness, extreme fury instead of just irritation or annoyance, panic instead of nervousness and shame and humiliation instead of just mild embarrassment. BPD is also known as EUPD (emotionally unstable personality disorder) for this reason.

• BPD cannot be completely cured. It can however, be very much improved with intense therapy, mainly DBT (dialectical behavioural therapy) and taking part in many therapeutic things to help you try and control your emotions and impulses better.

• More people in the world have BPD than schizophrenia and bipolar disorder combined.

• 75% of people with BPD are women.

• 10% of people with BPD attempt to commit suicide at least once in their life.

• 40 - 71% of BPD patients have been sexually abused.

• People with BPD tend to be much more vulnerable.

Healing from trauma takes courage and strength.  No matter how long it takes for you to heal, you will recover and you are so strong, so brave, so amazing.
