this guy sounded entirely crazy. going on about being behind ancient rome’s fall, the killing during the french revolution… it wasn’t possible. but he did say that he was the angel of death right? if he was telling the truth then it could be legit. clarice swallowed down her nerves and turned her head aside for a moment, mumbling to herself.

“a connection? well i’m sorry, but i think you have the wrong girl…”

It might sound crazy, but there have been stranger things happening to this world before. Raz is hard to surprise when it comes to such reveals. He has been alive for a very long time — having seen empires rise and fall before.  He doesn’t think the girl believes him at first, but that’s okay.

“I don’t think I do, but I think you should have a place with us. Think about it as this isn’t something you have to accept today.”

“I really hope you never have to,” says Belphegor. Belphegor hardly understands half of it themself. He has no idea that the void in his chest truly has the capability to kill him or that it’s a portal to the celestial afterlife. It’s for the best that he doesn’t know because not knowing is one of the few things keeping him alive. However, what Belphegor knows is that no one should have to lose someone who is such a big part of them. “I appreciate that much,” he sighs. “You’re one of the few people I really feel like are here for me. I’d do anything for you, Raz. I don’t know if it’s possible for me to achieve joy at this point, but I could at least help you.”

He can’t imagine what it must be like and hopes that the feeling isn’t one that has to fill his heart. Although sometimes Raz doesn’t know how much light is left within him after all this time of being an angel of death. The way his methods are of causing such destruction isn’t typical in what someone would imagine.  Razael isn’t interested in helping souls pass on, but maybe that’s also Apocalypse and his influence talking. “I don’t know if I’m capable of joy either, but I’m trying to remember what it feels like. I’ve been in the dark for so long now, but it’s nice to feel something else for a change. I care about you, Bel. I’m always going to be there for you, okay? Even when nobody else will, you can count on me to show up.”

“Don’t angels have like healing abilities.” He asked the other curiously, continuing to cool down Warren’s body temperature with his powers. He smiled happily and turned his head towards the male, with a bright smile. He could see that the other was still pretty happy and that nothing was getting him down. He knew that their daughter wouldn’t too much notice that anything was wrong, but he also didn’t want to startle her, so he’d bring her to Warren later. He looked over his boyfriend’s body again.

Gabe blushes at the wink - he remembered how easy it was for Warren to flirt with Gabe and win him over. “Oh, someone is very cocky huh?” He laughed and teased the other. “Okay, but that is fair. And I don’t believe that you won’t get hard, but I don’t mind.” He moved to start cutting the pants so that he could examine all of the wounds. “Do you want me to try the healing thing?” He asked the other softly.

“I don’t have healing abilities, but Archangel does.” Warren stopped trying to understand how that works exactly a long time ago with their differences in abilities. He doesn’t really mind because having a healing ability would just make him more reckless in the end. He wants to see their daughter, but it’s best that they wait until he was cleaned up. Warren would hate for her to get upset seeing how beat up he had gotten out there.

Luckily Warren has several of these suits so one being cut up isn’t a big deal. He likes having extra for situations like this one, and just counting all the tiles on the ceiling in the room. The blonde grows bored of this quickly, turning back to Gabe to watch him work. “The what now? You don’t have to do that, babe, I’ll be okay. Its just bruises, right? Save it for those who REALLY need it.”

“No one. Just my stupid insecurities.” He chuckled and looked at the other with a bright smile on his face. He watched his lover and smiled, because he definitely had a dream where the two of them fighting crime together. He was happy that Warren was okay with him getting back out there and helping out the others. He looked the other over and tried not to lick his lips, because the male looked extremely attractive in his uniform. He moved to wrap his arms around the male’s neck and pulled him closer for a soft hug. “Do you think I am truly ready for this?” He asked the other softly, because Warren had been doing this longer than him and still continued when Gabriel stopped.

“Well…she won’t be our only kid… so there are many possibilities of our other children taking over the industries.” Gabriel thought without thinking, but quickly looked up at Warren with embarrassment. “I-I mean.. if you want to have children that is.” He sighed and tried to hide his embarrassment. “But yeah, I am all for her having a happy childhood and being like you when she grows up.” He smiled and looked at the other who sat next to him. “You are just saying that, because you are my boyfriend. But you are pretty cute and convincing, so I will believe you.” He nodded his head and looked at the other. “I know, I guess I do have my own accomplishments, but they aren’t for the good natured.” he stated and shook his head. “Yeah, yeah. I am ready.” He jumped up and held a hand out to Warren.

Warren didn’t expect this topic to come up now, it hardly seems like the place for it. Although, maybe they have to talk about it sometime. He would like to have more children, no doubt about that, but they’ve never really talked about having more or trying. All right, maybe they mentioned it once, but that hardly counts in his own opinion. Now the Angel will be all flustered when they board the air carrier. Is this a hint? It feels like one, Gabriel wanting another baby in the house. They might have to hold this conversation for later when they get home, because he wants all of his attention on discussing this, but doesn’t want his boyfriend to be embarrassed. “You trying to tell me you’re ready for another kid?” It’s not easy bringing children in this world, as it wasn’t kind to their people, but being a father changed him dearly. “I’d like that you know? We can discuss this later though, love. When we aren’t about to go on a mission. We can talk over dinner. Would you like that?” He knows how impatient some of the others get when it comes to waiting. Warren kisses Gabe’s forehead while taking his hand. “You’ll be great, I know it. This is the start to making new lasting accomplishments.”

“They’d become stagnant. Without anything to strive for, I think they’d lose a will to live.” Belphegor can relate to that. They didn’t have much to strive for now. It was why it was so easy for the void to expand in him, taking up most of his body. “I never wanted to be there for humanity, and I wasn’t there often. I made a few deals, but I never really … saw much of them. I always want a break from what’s expected of me.” Belphegor nods. “If I could get away from that, maybe everything wouldn’t feel so … horrible.” Life was always a nightmare they could never wake up from. You can escape from it, his void told him. You know what you’d have to do. Belphegor waved his hand like he was swatting a fly, as if that would get rid of the voice he heard. “I lost Belgirel, Raz. I have a literal hole in my chest because of that. Physical pain like that barely hurts me anymore. My wings don’t bring me joy. I’d rather you have them anyways.”

Raz wishes that he could take away that pain from his friend, but unfortunately that’s not an ability that he has been gifted with. Not allowed to heal anyone except bring pain to everyone around him. It can be exhausting, so maybe Razael can understand wanting a break from what’s expected of you. He supposed maybe that’s what he was doing now, moving through the world trying to understand it before another attempt is made on destroying it all. “I know that I’ll never understand what that ache feels like, but I’m here for you and trying to understand. I appreciate the thought behind that, so thank you. It’s the only nice thing anyone has done for me in a very long time. You deserve to experience joy too.”

“How else would anything change on this planet if it weren’t for us intervening anyways?” Belphegor asked. So many of Belphegor’s own inventions were what helped humans advance so much, yet he was the one that was considered a demon, a monster, by humanity. Sure, he made deals with those inventors who made his inventions a reality, but nothing came without a price. What was a soul compared to the advancement of a society? Belphegor didn’t care about them anymore or what they thought of him. He could be the monster they wanted him to be. The void in his chest encouraged it, told him to get angry and take it out on them. It wasn’t like Father was watching anymore. Just Michael and Lucifer calling the shots. Screw them. “Yeah, we’ll make the best of it until then. No matter what we have to do.” He rested his head on Raz’s shoulder. “You don’t just get used to losing parts of you. I’d give them to you completely if I could.” Belphegor had two sets of wings, so maybe he could just cut one pair off. Sure, it would hurt, probably for a long time, but Bells would’ve done it for Raz.

“You have a point there, they’d be so lost without all of us.” Razael almost wonders what that would look like, a world without anyone to influence society as they know it. “I’ve always been there throughout history, making sure pawns were in place — ordinary people who were keen on serving a greater purpose. He’s no God, just an immortal man with too much power. I shouldn’t have to serve him, but I don’t know. You ever just want a break from what’s expected of you?” Raz asks while looking at Bel, resting his head against the one leaning against his shoulder. “I appreciate that, but I wouldn’t wish this pain on you. The feeling of having your wings amputated is unlike anything else.” It was no wonder that Raz is so angry all the time. “You’re a good friend.”

          az never imagined that he’d have his brother back and was overjoyed that he got to see him again, even if it meant he was attached to this human. he had gone to see raz and met the mate of the human, he wasn’t impressed by the little show of power he tried to do. the angel shook his head, putting on a serious face “what? no, no way. i would never.” he barely held back another laugh as he crossed his arms over his chest. “no, but you can make some.” he shrugged slightly “maybe talk to zatanna? she’s a powerful mage, there might be some sort of spell that could help.” he couldn’t help the smile at how raz was holding the jacket, he’d probably have the same reaction if roles were reversed “leviathon told me to watch something called a netflix, there are many things on there to view. raz, i’m glad to see you and barely want to let you out of my sight, but if you ever wear neon pants around me i’m gonna take a vacation in hell.”

Razael knows the fact he was tied to Warren is an inconvenience for everyone. Those who were close with him are cautious about the blonde and his friends. While those close to Warren don’t know what to think about the Horseman. He would need to find a balance, but that won’t be happening today.  “You are! I can’t believe you.” Raz playfully nudges Az, but it feels genuinely good for them to be able to do this again. “If you’re sure.” He carefully cuts two appropriate sized holes in the back before throwing the leather jacket on. “Does this look better you think?” He asks while posing with it while adjusting it, feeling so out of place with trying to fit in with society instead of planning its destruction.  “I don’t know what Netflix is, but maybe you can show me sometime.” He offers, willing to try it if they like it. “I won’t actually wear neon pants so please stay. I don’t mind you not letting me out of your sight. It reminds me of when we were younger actually which is comforting.”

Charlie leaned against the church walls and watched as everyone slowly made their way from the funeral grounds back to their cars. She didn’t know the deceased, not personally anyway, but she’d been his reaper. When Charlie came to collect his soul, he refused to crossover with her, so she did the sensible thing and helped the NYPD solve the mystery behind his murder. “Alright,” she breathed. “That’s the end of that, dear.” To the outside world, it would seem Charlie was talking to herself, but she wasn’t. Beside her was the spirit of the murdered man. “I’ve held up my promise,” she held out her hand to him. “Now, it’s your turn.”      He hesitated for a moment, before nodding and taking her hand. Charlie let out a small gasp as his soul passed through her and into the afterlife. She felt her cheeks wet with tears she hadn’t realized she’d shed. Nearly 200 years of reaping and she still cried when a soul passed through her. Charlie wiped away the tears from her cheek, becoming aware for the first time that someone was watching her. “Do you always go sulking around in the shadows of the cemetery?” she asked as she turned to face the individual. “or is this a new hobby for you?”

Death always fascinates Razael, but you’d think after the amount of lives that have been taken by his own hand he would have it all figured out. He doesn’t feel anything usually, but that’s what Raz was manipulated into feeling when ending the life of another.  The blades making his wings could slide any Human in half easily if that’s what he wanted, but that’s not the result of his endeavors typically. He was dressed in something casual, but wasn’t funeral appropriate. Did Razael care? Very little. He even had a leather jacket over his shirt that belonged to Azrael. It meant a lot to him almost like a reminder that they were always with him. He even put it in a place with a note making sure Warren and his boyfriend wouldn’t touch it. He didn’t want it moved because this is the one and only thing that belongs to him and him only.  

His brunette hair blows in the wind, another difference between him and the one he shares this vessel with. Razael didn’t mean to stare, yellow eyes looking at the stranger while she reaped the soul. The Horseman of Death never stuck around for this part, but maybe he should be. “I guess you could say that I find comfort in the dead, but it’s more than just a hobby.” He usually would be cautious about the information revealed to others, but this woman is unlike most in this town. “I’m the Horseman of Death, believe it or not. I’m surprised I don’t spend more time in cemeteries, but I find this part unappealing.” Watching them mourn that is.

Belphegor smiles at that. “Maybe the world could use a bit more trouble.” They hadn’t really been feeling like they belonged to much of anything. Most of the time, they felt entirely alone, and even while surrounded by most of their family, that didn’t go away. You’ll always be alone, their voice tells them. If he just let them go completely and stopped trying so hard to be attached to them, maybe everything wouldn’t hurt so much. “I do.” Belphegor nodded. “We’ll get out of ourselves some day.” He knew of one way out of this prison of a planet and prison of a body, but despite how much pain he was in and how distant he felt from his family, he just wasn’t willing to do that just yet. It was mainly out of pettiness that he stayed. He felt like he owed his family a bit of trouble after how they’d made him feel, but not Razael. Razael deserved better. “Yours were much nicer,” he agreed. “I can’t give you back your wings, but I can share mine with you,” he offered before spreading his own wings and wrapping one of them around Razael.

“I agree, no shame in influencing the world.” Raz spent many years making sure that everything would go according to plan. He experienced messing around with making Humans go through chaos planned out for them. Does he enjoy causing other people pain or has Razael just been made to believe that he should for being the Horseman of Death. He can’t quite deny that it’s kind of fun. Not everyone would agree with him on that though, that much he knows. Especially with how often the X-Men fought him. Oh well, the Horseman focuses on spending time with his friend here. “I hope we can one day, but until that happens we make the best out of what we have, right?” He genuinely smiles feeling the wing wrapped around him. This is nice. Does he deserve nice things?  “I should be used to this since I lost my wings and had them replaced a long time ago. Thank you for sharing your wings with me, Bel. I appreciate the thought.”

shifting uncomfortably in her seat as the angelic man seemed to stare through her with just his gaze, clarice tried not to show her nerves outwardly too much. “i didn’t think you were lying…. i just was surprised” she murmured before her brows knitted together in confusion. “apocalypse? as in the doomsday all those crazies talk about on the streets?” she asked before shaking her head “Sorry, don’t know anything about ‘Clan Akkaba’”

“Apocalypse is not what you’ve heard. His true name is En Sabah Nur and he was the world’s first Mutant. He gave me a purpose — making me one of his heirs. You follow false Gods, child. Clan Akkaba safeguards the legacy and mantras of Apocalypse. We weave in and out of history doing his bidding. Who do you think burned Ancient Rome? We did that as it was his will.“ Razael goes silent for a moment. “Every significant event that has ever happened had one of us there to represent him.” Even back during the French Revolution one of the members of the clan had been the one sharpening the blade of the guillotine.    “We are all his children. I’m his heir and have been one of the closest to him throughout many lifetimes. You have a connection to him that I can’t quite piece together yet, but I can see it.”

Gabriel was sitting on the couch, to his and Warren’s beautiful home, watching horror movies. Was it the best for the moment? No. But he needed something to take his mind off of worrying if Warren was okay during the mission he went on. And now it was midnight and he was about to start freaking out. Kathryn had counted the sheep hours ago and now he was just alone waiting for the other. He didn’t go this time, because he couldn’t find a sitter for Kathryn and he didn’t just like leaving her with anyone. He sighed, getting ready to start a new movie, until he heard his phone ringing. Picking up the phone he frantically answered and soon jumped up to go get his daughter and her diaper bag. 

He was able to let Storm watch Kathryn, while he went to the infirmary to check on Warren. He got mixed messages and thought the mission went off. But Hank and Jean were patching up other members, so that led Gabriel to go check on Warren in his own infirmary room. “Baby.” he called softly, with a first aid kick in his hand. “How do you feel?” He walked over towards Warren and moved to rub his forehead. He slightly used his powers to lower Warren’s temperature some, letting his body relax more. “I’m going to bandage you up okay?” He’d grab their daughter when he fully bandaged up the male, so she didn’t panic.

This isn’t anything new, but at least his wings weren’t damaged for once. It’s just the rest of him that felt like it was thrown through a few buildings, he needed to have some bandages wrapped around his torso and his bicep at least. He hasn’t even looked at his legs, but that involves pulling the rest of the spandex suit off and he doesn’t feel like bending over that much. If Raz were in control their vessel would be healed instantly, but Warren doesn’t have a healing factor like he does. His gaze looks up when Gabe walked in with a first aid kit. “Hey, sweetheart.” He has a cut on his cheek, but maybe it won’t leave a scar when his counterpart takes the wheel in a few days. Until then? Warren will have to deal with these aches.

“I feel rotten, but I’m sure you knew that just by looking at me.” Warren laughs a little although even that hurts, but tries to lighten the mood. He doesn’t really like Gabe having to see him like this, but it’s that the price of being a hero? “Okay, you might have to take the rest of my suit off to see if anything needs to be bandaged far as my legs go.” He says gesturing toward where the spandex was still clinging to his skin. He sits up a little, wings aching from now much they were used out there in the fight. “I’m lucky to have the cutest nurse.” It might not be the most appropriate time to be flirting.

Gabriel looked down at his suit and looked himself over in the mirror. He was at the X Mansion with the others and was finally convinced by Warren to actually go on a mission with the team. He has helped the X-Men after everything, but actually being on the team wasn’t something he did since before he became emperor. “Warren, are you sure I don’t look silly in this?” He asked the other, because he was definitely trying not to make fun of everyone who wore this things. For example how silly his brother looked with the glasses, how Storm always added a cape to hers, and how cute Warren’s wings stood out in his. 

He sighed, because he knew strengthening the X-Men was definitely for a good cause, especially since his daughter would probably grow to wonder about her mutantship and wonder what role her parents played in helping out the mutants. “Do you think Kathryn would want to be an X-Men when she grows up.” He replied softly and looked at the other with a curious expression on his face. “I mean her uncles, dads, aunt, cousins, were all on the team.” Gabe snickered and looked back towards Warren. He was honestly trying to make light of the situation, because he knew on missions that the unpredictable happened and Gabe hadn’t been in a fight for a while, so he was scared of losing control of his powers - especially since he acquired a new mutation since then. 

“I mean… okay… I am rambling now aren’t i?” He asked the man and shook his head towards the other with a chuckle. “I guess I am just nervous.” He moved to sit on the bed, his own cape swaying around as he did. “Everyone relates me to my evil past - and even before I got compared to how great Scott was, how great Alex was…” He sighed softly and looked to Warren with a longing expression on his face. “What if I am not great?”

Warren has always been proud to be a founding member of the X-Men. He was the third Mutant to join the team, but long before that, he was fighting crime on his own already. The blonde called himself the Avenging Angel back then, but after enrolling in the school with Scott and Bobby changed that to be just Angel. His hands finished putting his own uniform on, the red and white spandex that covers his body. There’s a yellow halo in the middle of his chest, hair poking out over the cowl and falling into his face. His feathered wings poking out of his back, giving them a gentle flap to make sure nothing was stuck. Warren turns his attention back to his boyfriend though, smiling while taking a step closer. “You don’t look silly. Who said that? It wasn’t one of the students, was it? You can’t take everything they say to heart.” He says softly while taking a  better look at him.

The next question comes as a surprise, but it’s something the Angel has thought a lot about. “I think I want our daughter to pursue whatever makes her happy. I would hope she takes over the business one day because Worthington Industries has been around for over a hundred and fifty years. I don’t know how much I like the idea of her fighting like we have done, but I think the most important part is to let her have a childhood for long as possible.” Warren admits since Kathryn is still so young after all. He doesn’t want her to grow up too fast. He takes a seat down next to Gabe and reaching his hand out to tilt his chin to look at him. “It’s okay to be nervous. I think you’re already great, and you should go out there being yourself. Try not to live in Scott and Alex’s shadow. You can make your own accomplishments and the only way to do that is to go out there and give it all we got. What do you say? Are you ready? I think we have to join the others on the Blackbird.”

Gabe: Yes, to the openness.

Gabe: I know. It's just... feels like its something that's going to be unresolved.

Gabe: Also lasagna or salisbury steak for dinner?

WARREN: you got it, babe.

WARREN: it might be. we might have to take it day-to-day, you know? the future is so unpredictable.

WARREN: steak! are you cooking?

When Razael had disappeared, Belphegor hadn’t really known what had happened or where they went. They’d had theories, though it was mainly just their own issues surfacing, twisting things, so they thought that Raz was mad at them or that they’d done something wrong. Somehow, that was easier for Belphegor to handle than it was to think that something had happened to them. “I still don’t do much besides finding trouble now too.” Whenever Belphegor wasn’t just taking a nap, it seemed like something bad was always happening. It made them regret not always being asleep. “Now, there’s not much left of it to explore. It used to feel so much bigger. Now, it just … feels like a cage.”

It almost feels like another lifetime ago when Razael had been turned missing, wondering how long it took everyone to stop thinking about where he went and moved on. After many millennia everyone in Heaven is bound to forget him since he didn’t really do anything important back in those days. Now, Raz has become the Horseman of Death — reigning chaos on the planet with his other three friends. “We can be troublemakers together.” Some things never change anyway, inhaling sharply as his eyes look around at their surroundings. “It feels so small, not as much wonder can be found in it for me anymore. Do you feel trapped here, Bel? I know the feeling. I feel trapped in myself sometimes.” Although quite literally Razael shares a vessel with another, but doesn’t bring that up now. “I miss my old wings.” He says while the metal ones spread out for a moment.

          azrael couldn’t hold back the smirk at the shirt razael was wearing. sure… az wasn’t the most fashionable angel out there, that title probably belonged to gabriel or lucifer, but he knew enough to know that it was a bold move to wear that shirt. “i don’t know much about fashion but that shirt is… something to say the least. you trying to give them the ol’ razzle dazzle?” the male sniggered, hiding the laugh behind a cough. since being here, he had tried to catch up on pop culture in the hopes that he wouldn’t be so awkward around people. after scaring a kid nearly to death levi had suggested az watch some netflix to see if that helped. “here…” he pulled his leather jacket off, offering it to his brother “the black should tone it down so it’s less of an eye-catcher, if i’m remembering right at least.”

The opportunity to hang out with Azrael again is something Razael looks forward to, never having a feeling like this in a long time. “Are you laughing at me?” His eyebrows knit together, almost forming a pout with his lips — an expression that was almost what the angel was known for once. Raz used to give everyone this look to get what he wanted and it worked. Now? Maybe it has less of an effect with his blue skin. His hand takes the leather jacket and looks at it while holding onto the fabric like it was so precious. “Does this have wing holes in it? Otherwise wearing it is impossible. I hate these so much.” He says while looking back at the metal wings on his back, a little self-conscious about it. He turns to look back at his sibling though. “When do you get so knowledgeable about Human fashion? I don’t know what to do with what Warren has in his closet so this could have been much worse — what if there were neon-colored pants?”

Belphegor tries to think of what it would’ve been like if they had been able to find Belgirel again like Az and Raz had found each other. They’d changed a lot after their twin’s death, and they weren’t sure if Belgirel would even recognize them at this point. Would the void in Belphegor’s chest close completely? It was such a big part of Belphegor now that it was hard to imagine being without it. It was hard to imagine even being happy anymore. “I missed you both. I remember when we all spent time together. It’s one of the few things I didn’t want to forget.” They had tried to forget everything, to move on from it all some time after their fall, but they weren’t capable of it. Their memories chased them relentlessly, the good ones and the bad ones. “You shouldn’t be forgotten by anyone, but it doesn’t surprise me that they do. They don’t really seem to care about anyone but themselves. They lost their sense of family long ago.”

He can’t imagine what it must feel like to lose your twin completely, always radiating sympathy to Belphegor with the loss of Belgirel. They used to spend a lot of time together back then, the four of them. It was some of his happier memories of his time in Heaven and otherwise. Razael always a reckless angel pushing his boundaries, and Azrael always kept an eye on him when they could. There was a special bond that came along with being a twin, and that’s why they would spend time together perhaps because nobody else would understand. “I missed you too. How could I ever forget those memories of the four of us? They were some of my favorite days. Neither of us should forget.” He grows silent for a moment, but it truly was a shame that they’d forgotten what family is like. “It’s quite alright, I didn’t do much except find trouble back then. The reason I went missing is because I went exploring on Earth alone ...”
