A rescue I normally really like took on a cat with cryptococcus that has literally eaten away her face. Her nose is *gone*. Her face around her nose is *gone*. Her skin from bridge of nose to the upper canines is *GONE*. Her tongue sticks out because so much tissue is *gone*. She also has FIV which is going to make treating this even harder. This is just... I am not okay with this.

Yeah that's a sad thing about animals that animal lovers often fail or refuse to grasp- that the creatures around us are very often just not in it for the long haul even with ideal care. Sometimes the evolutionary strategy is to pump out tons of babies and have a high mortality rate. It's nobody's fault, it's inevitable. All you can do is your best.
