I ain’t gonna lie yall I be sooooo fuckin worried about the babies of these past 2 years. All of the kids too- anyone born from 2010 onwards.

The people freshly getting out of highschool don’t have opportunities, won’t be able to get housing, and are gonna be working to be dead broke within 48 hours of the check hitting. Jobs offering checks every 2 weeks. Jobs not even giving $14/hr a lot of cases when companies require $45/hr+ wages for a basic life?

Everyone else in elementary/middle and lower…. What the hell do they even do, realistically? If they aren’t already aware enough to try to emotionally prepare for the work life that they’re going to be forced into, what about the world as they know it now? We already know what types of hell are going to be brought to the human race as we know it; wildfires, droughts, tornados and flooding.

The babies and toddlers of today. I’m not a parent but my friends are, or are about to be. What do they even do? What do we teach them? Do we keep them on the normal track of ‘shut up, go to school, get good grades, go into debt at college, work work work’ or are we going to actually pull up the boot straps and pave a new path for/with them to do something else…?

What do we do?

Whyyyyyyyyy why why did I have to have a dream where I was on a boat and plane with my friends bc we were going to Russia/Eastern Europe for a better life, we get there, it’s flooded but we’re all excited and exhausted and wading around in knee deep flood waters; then the POV changes and it’s me at 16 staring at a laptop screen. Longingly. Eagerly. Knowing I will never be able to leave.

Then I wake up. Oh well. Time for another day of meaningless work.

Someone needs to tell parents everywhere that a child never complaining is NOT a sign of a mentally healthy child, and it is, in fact, the complete opposite of that.

It's nuts how common it is to not allow children to be angry, even (especially) in households where adults are angry all the time. As a child I knew my own anger was unacceptable--not just expressing it outwardly but feeling it at all. So now as an adult my immediate reaction to my own anger is often to feel guilt instead of like. Noticing when someone is being rude or unfair or my boundaries are being violated or whatever. fucked up.

A child is punished for moving and making noise.

To avoid more punishment, the child sits still and is quiet. But they have to actively remind themself constantly to sit still and be quiet.

The teacher sees the child sitting still and being quiet. The teacher treats this as the baseline.

Since the child is putting a lot of effort into sitting still and being quiet, doing so distracts from paying attention to what the teacher is teaching. The child then is punished for not paying attention.

The child now knows that they'll be punished no matter what they do. And they can't explain why they struggle, because any attempt to explain is arguing.
