“You know what, I hate the idea of you being all by yourself in that apartment. Why don’t you come over for dinner, maybe a movie? I’ll put Sami down, and we can find something that doesn’t have animated characters,” Felicity offered. This woman was special, Felicity just knew it. And there was something around her that reminded her of Oliver when she first met him. This woman needed her, and dammit if Felicity would fail her.
She reached out a stroked Annie’s head, “Please,” Felicity asked. “I know I’m not your Nana, but I think I’m becoming a pretty good one, and maybe I can sub until yours comes back to you,” Felicity offered the sweet girl.
Felicity frowned, Newcastle, where had she heard that before? Before shaking it off, she’d remember eventually, “Well, just know that Dads and Papa’s can be incredibly stubborn. I’m married to one. And you know what drives him nuts; I’m a hocker. I will pester him and pester him until he either fixes the problem, i.e., no longer runs from the problem. Or until he tells me what that problem and my brilliant, genius mind finds a solution for him to fix the problem with. Just keep at it. Demons are often of our own making, so they seem bigger than they really are.”
The offer was unexpected, after all, they had only just met. But the side of her that she had ignored for so long was now overjoyed at the prospect of spending time with her family, even if that family had no idea who she was. Her demonic side growled silently in her mind in protest.
“Well if it means saving you from rerun after rerun of animated characters, then I guess I can’t refuse.” Annie smiled back, shoving the darker side of her tainted soul into a corner. She had no vendetta against Felicity, but if Annie played her cards right, the woman was a powerful ally to have in 2020.
She closed her eyes briefly at the stroke to her head, allowing the calm to wash over her. Opening them again, she sighed softly and nodded. “You have a really generous heart, you know that?” Annie countered. “From what I hear, that’s one of the best qualities a Nana can have.”
The longer Felicity talked, the more Annie felt human again. Oh, there was still the vibration of power humming in the background, but it felt like dull white noise in Felicity’s presence. “Maybe I should send you in to pester my grandfather when he gets back. I think you would have more success in changing anyone’s mind than me.”
