College Tips (geared for Music Majors, but most applicable elsewhere)

Keeping on Track:

-Take Morning Classes: The jury is pretty divided on this one, but seriously, do it. They don’t have to be 7AMs, but you should be taking at least one 9AM, at least once a week. It isn’t healthy to be sleeping until noon every day, although you might like that, and it will get you ready to go for the rest of the day. 

-Practice Between Classes: Schedule your practice times. Seriously. If you don’t write them into your schedule you might be tempted to put it off until later and then not do it because you have homework to do at night. Decide what classes you can practice between, and do it. Treat it like a class. If it gives you anxiety to practice at high traffic times when others might hear you, figure out when the practice rooms are mostly empty, and practice then. Ultimately you should keep a schedule.

-Take Good Notes: Hand-write your notes. It’s better for your memory. Take in depth notes, even on things you think you’ll remember or already know. It makes the transitions between topics easier so your notes aren’t all jumpy. If you have the time later, type them up or even better, rewrite them so you have even neater notes for later that you can actually understand. This is idealistic, but immensely helpful in subjects you might not be so good at. The repetition is helpful to your memory!
