Faith in Action | Rosemary’s Story —/- About a month ago my mom woke up with partial vision in one eye. It was as if someone pulled a shade down over half her field of vision in her right eye. That’s pretty scary if you ask me but you don’t know my mom. See (no pun intended) she got up out of bed, didn’t panic, made an appointment with a retina specialist and was seen that day once they realized she still had partial vision. Mom didn’t panic because she knew God was with her. I was there when the doctor told her he was going to reconnect the optic nerve and restore her vision. Hope flowed through our veins. The next day she had surgery and all went according to plan. Fast forward a month, recovery is underway and field of vision regained but vision is blurry. At her last appointment, the doctor now mentions she will most likely never see clearly out of that eye again and it will most likely happen to the other eye — this was a shock. My mother again is steady with the news and affirms her faith in God by asking if there’s anything else he can do — he says, “Nothing.” So she says, “Well then God will take over from here” and thanks God out loud for the vision she has. Throughout this whole experience she’s been thanking God for what He’s blessed her with. I truly believe it’s gratefulness like hers that tugs at our Creator’s heart to work miracles. It already performed one in my heart by showing me what true faith is all about. Love is messy and that’s what makes it perfect. It’s the feeling of a full heart eager to spill out and share. It’s knowing, trusting in what is unseen, and keeps its promise. It is said when we die, we are drawn to walk into the light. People who have traversed this experience (and live to tell of it) say the light is; warm, inviting, and brighter than any light they’ve ever encountered. I ask, what builds familiarity to it? What makes it warm & inviting? My thoughts... The Light is here and now — God is here and now. We experience Him in parts that reveal His love and invitation to be complete with Him. Each illuminating experience leads us to Him. Eventually we come to something so familiar we connect with it automatically and there’s no question of authenticity.
