Something I’ve been thinking about while watching season 2 of Hazbin hotel is Lucifer and Lilith’s relationship. Specifically, what may be a long standing argument/disagreement they may have.
I’m not saying they don’t love each other but I think how they view sinners put a strain on their marriage.
Lucifer completely separates himself from the sinners. He doesn’t know who the overlords are, what they’re doing or what’s being said. When he was captured and talking to Vox it seems he has pretty similar views as Adam and lute does about sinners being garbage. The fact that he’s had little to say about the fact that sinners actually can be redeemed and had no involvement in it shows how little he cares about sinners.
This is probably because sinners are walking, talking reminders of his failures and rejection of heaven.
Lilith, however, seems to have had an active part in leading the sinners and was involved in their afterlives. Out of all the Morningstars, Lilith seemed to be the only one the sinners actually respected.
This is more than likely because LILITH IS THE ORIGINAL SINNER. She was human once. She descended into hell. She understands how they feel unlike Lucifer (a fallen angel) and Charlie (a hellborn royal). And I do think Lilith enjoyed having so much influence and power over the sinners compared to Lucifer considering she was meant to submit to Adam when he was her husband.
This leads to the marital strain.
I think there’s a chance that Lilith would be hurt by and internalize Lucifer’s disregard toward sinners and Lilith may not have ever told Lucifer how she felt, hence why she’s disappeared.
Lucifer probably doesn’t even see Lilith as a sinner because she descended into hell because of him.
Season 3 is supposed to be focused on the morningstars so hopefully we’ll finally get some answers.
My thoughts on Lilith in the next season:
When it comes to the show, I think the Lilith we’re seeing in heaven is actually Eve and the real Lilith is possibly in hiding.
The fact that we only see half her face in real time or flashbacks even though we, the audience, knows what she looks like already because of all the painting/photos/and even a statue shown throughout the show is foreshadowing for Lilith not being who we think she is.
During ‘ more than anything’ and on the character cards from when season 1 came out, Lilith even has the same bangs/hair style as Eve from her introduction
Also Lilith having horns in some images and no horns in others is also a sign that the Lilith we’re seeing isn’t the queen of hell. OR since the horns show up in ‘royal family’ art (paintings/sculptures) but they’re gone in family photos it may be a sign how Lilith is multifaceted (a powerful demon and a loving wife and mother)
And I do think Rosie is also part of it. Whether she serves Lilith or is Lilith in disguise there are too many coincidences for her not to be part of lilith’s plotline (her wanting to help the hotel, her hiding alastor the same time Lilith’s been gone).
ESPECIALLY the little heart to heart Rosie had with Charlie: “it’s difficult to admit to things you’re not proud of, especially when it hurts the ones you love. She fucked up sure. She’s flawed. But hey who down here isn’t? What I’ve learned: words are cheap, but actions they speak the truth”
The ‘words are cheap’ bit strikes this theory home considering how Lilith brought the people of hell together with her songs/words
Given that context and now in season two what Vox said about how Lilith tried to go to war years ago and that Charlie admitted to not getting her mothers memory right this easily implies that that Vox may have been right but now Lilith’s trying to redeem herself
