They sure are! And Alastor is on the bold-stripe, nonpartnering, romance/sex- and touch- repulsed/averse end of those spectrums! And he's actually one of the first and only examples of that end of those spectrums that we've ever gotten!

Seriously, list ANY other characters you know of who are as explicitly on this end of the spectrum as Alastor is, because I can't name a one. Everyone likes to say that the repulsed and the nonpartnering and the green/black/bold stripes get all the representation, but he is actually the only one I can name who is so explicitly like that. Everyone else is vague, and seems to be likely rose-indifferent.

Merida seems personally uninterested in rose stuff, but not repulsed by it.

Peridot seems personally uninterested in rose stuff, but not repulsed by it, maybe slightly averse at most.

Lilith Clawthorne seems personally uninterested in rose stuff, but not repulsed by it, and I could see her in a rose relationship eventually.

Ahsoka Tano seems favorable towards rose stuff, even though I and many others headcanon her as aroace, and I could see her in a rose relationship eventually.

Ryland Grace seems personally uninterested in rose stuff, but not repulsed by it.

Katniss Everdeen seems to be aroacespec, but she ends up in a rose relationship.

These are the most common aroace-coded/headcanoned characters I know of, and all of them occupy other areas of the spectrums.

Would you defend her the same if this was about confirming a character gay to avoid pissing off straight people? No, because we would all recognize that as weird and homophobic. Her refusing to confirm Alastor as aro because “I don’t want to ruin the shippers fun” is so arophobic that it’s offensive.

I dont give a fuck that she’s ace, because that has nothing to do with her understanding of aro struggles. And besides, her being aspec at all is frankly irrelevant compared to the amount of harm she’s caused to aspec communities. The damage she has done to the aspec hazbin community is astronomical. Do you know how many aspecs have been forced to leave this fandom due to her bullshit? Do you know how many closed aspec hazbin communities have sprung up out of a need for aspecs to vent and form collectives against the treatment we receive here? It’s fucking dire, man. Everything she does only encourages shitty fandom behavior. Shippers are only as arophobic as she encourages them to be.

All that to say—fuck vivziepop. If she and her followers are so upset about me saying that, then maybe she should do better. I’ve been here since the pilot days and she has NEVER given me any reason to trust her. Trust isn’t given, it is earned, and she has done nothing to show that she is my ally. Shippers are the vast, vast majority of the fandom and they are plenty fine ignoring Alastor’s asexuality and all the hints at his aromanticism (and literally being told that Viv “sees him as aroace”). They don’t need coddled like this. We as a whole don’t need to bend over backwards to please the vast majority like this. Alastor being confirmed as aro will not stop the shippers, but it would be a win for the aromantic community. It’s a win-win, honestly.

Even if Husk isn't confirmed trans, it's so disappointing how easily and how quickly some people became openly transphobic because their fav yaoi ship got threatened with diversity that forced them to question ingraved biases. It really takes one small hat for the true colors to show.

More has come out from the interview with Erika, and it pretty much confirms what was said in @alastors-totally-canon-deertail's post.

Charlie and Alastor have a bond of trust because he has been there for her and is providing a sort of fatherly protection. He might cause trouble and stir shit up, but she believes it will always be for a good reason. Alastor seems to have stumbled into being a father figure purely because Charlie's parents were slacking.

Considering that the only time we saw her "feel betrayed" or confused by his behavior was when he collected the favor she owed him in the most innocuous way possible to trigger a chain of events that seemed to benefit her, Charlie has no reason to doubt that Alastor does strange things for good reasons.

He was also there when she felt she couldn't trust even the person she loved most, and subsequently set off another chain of events that gave her a different perspective on things, as well as helping her find the confidence to speak to her people and be heard and followed by sinners.

Does Alastor do things for his own benefit? Yes.

Do the things Alastor does benefit others directly or indirectly? Also yes.

Which is very funny and leaves you wondering if he does it on purpose or by accident.

I'm excited to see how this plays out in S3 and how it affects both Charlie and Alastor emotionally, and how it will impact their interactions with each other and others in the future.

News about Charlie Morningstar by Erika Henningsten

In a recent interview with Erika Henningsten, news informations emerged about Charlie, past, present, and future:

In the third season, Charlie will “go back to being a sad little girl,” meaning she’ll do everything she can to impress Lilith and earn her attention, and this will lead her to hurt or push away people close to her.

We’ll find out whether or not Lilith had been watching the events of the previous seasons.

Charlie and Lilith will have a duet.

Erika highly praised Lilith’s voice actress, although she still hasn’t been officially revealed yet.

One thing Charlie and Lilith have in common is that, in order to achieve “what they believe is best,” they end up hurting people along the way.

Compared to the previous ones, the third season will have much less action and will be far more emotional. It will represent an emotional turning point for Charlie, just like the fourth season will.

By the end of the fourth season, Charlie will have a song that serves as an “emotional closure” to Happy Day in Hell, in which she will sound very different compared to the first season.

Charlie’s past will be explored further in the third season (so, presumably, her family’s past as well).

When asked to compare Charlie to a flower, Erika compared her to an African daisy (white petals and a black center), referring to an inner darkness that could symbolize both her pain and her demonic fury.

Erika explained that Charlie didn’t look deeper into the deal between Alastor and Vox in the second season because, although she found it strange, she believed Alastor had his reasons for doing it, since there is a bond of “trust” between them (at least from Charlie’s side). Alastor was there for her when no one else was, and it’s implied that Charlie has a soft spot for him (even compared to Vaggie, who has also always been by her side) because she desperately needs a mentor figure, and Alastor filled that role at the first opportunity.

Erika jokingly said that there will definitely be a crossover with Helluva Boss in the future.

In the fourth season, Charlie will have a song in which she will “growl quite a lot.”

I can't get over just how good of a character Alastor is.

At first he seems like the typical heartless, evil, psychopathic, sadistic, monstrous killer villain.

Even the people in the show call him these things too! Charlie says he's protecting the hotel in a sadistic way. Angel says he sold his soul to a psychopathic freak, to which Husk responds that he did as well.

And then we take into account that he's aroace.

The villain who doesn't feel any sexual gratification or feels any romantic love is one society is familar with.

He's also touch repulsed, which adds to that theme too.

These traits are used to other the villain. To suggest to the audience "they're not like you. They're not really human".

They are used to dehumanize a villain. To make him seem greater or more evil.

But in real life, being touch-, sex- and romance-repulsed are entirely neutral traits.

We just live in a society that is built for neurotypical people. That thinks everyone should be in a straight, monogamous marriage.

But not everyone fits into this world, so they become outcasts. How do you live in a world that says your way of living is wrong?

Alastor is all of these things Hollywood as taught us to fear. To hate. He is a literal demon! He has killed! He enjoys killing!

And yet

And yet we fans care about Alastor. We want him to get better or we root for him or want to see him humbled or be challenged.

The point is, Alastor doesn't strike the audience as this big bad evil of unimaginable horrors we can't even comprehend.

Maybe he wants to be. But he isn't.

He's antagonistic at times. A villain arc might be on his way.

But we still see Alastor as a person. A person with humanity. There is more beneath that smile.
