Oliver laughed when Haley corrected him and he shrugged. “I’m honestly surprised that it happened as regularly as it did with Mom constantly watching over us.” he smiled and looked over at his baby sister. “I guess she figured with seven of us in the house nothing bad could ever really happen without someone knowing. Which, is mostly true I guess.” He laughed as he took another bite of the brownie that was left next to the one she’d eaten and he shook his head. “With all of us around, I’m surprised you made it to adulthood, Haley.” Oliver chuckled, the truth in his statement making him shake his head. Haley mentioned that she couldn’t be too innocent and Oliver shrugged. “You have a brief point, but, you were smart.” he shrugged. “I mean, you knew you loved Nathan enough to marry him even at sixteen, and even though I could’ve killed him when Mom and Dad told me for assuming you were pregnant, I knew that if you didn’t really want it, you wouldn’t do it. You’ve always been way smarter than I have and you use your brain.” Oliver smiled and took a bite of the brownie again, chewing and swallowing before speaking again. “There’s no sugar in these things?” he asked, looking down at the ‘dessert’ in his hand and back at Haley. "You’ve been depriving my niece and nephew from sugar? Just wait. Uncle Oliver’s going to feed them all of the sugar in town and they’re going to know their mother has been lying to them.” he laughed and nodded as she spoke about Jamie doing the stuff Taylor used to do to Haley. “You don’t have to worry about that, Haley. I can promise you that Jamie will never do half the stuff that Taylor did to you. That any of us did to you.”
“Yeah---I think Mom was off participating in a yoga contest of her own,” Haley said with a shake of her head and a laugh. Her mother had played a big role in all of their loves; obviously, but deciphering pot brownies was definitely never her strong suit. “Mostly. I mean I could’ve went to Luke’s house for about a week before she’d really start getting suspicious. I know...how many of you did I have to deal with before I actually gained some freedom of my own?” she quizzed with a laugh. “Of course I knew I loved him, but that doesn’t make me smart. When you meet your soulmate...I guess you just know, right? That feeling you get---at sixteen or seventy, it’s just unlike any other,” her lips churned into a smile at his next words, unable to refrain from letting out a small laugh. “I’m pretty sure I got asked about a baby about a million times that first week. Why couldn’t anyone just believe the fact that I was in love?” Haley said with an eye roll. It was still so surreal to her. If she hadn’t taken the risk in high school to go with her gut, who knew where she’d be know? Definitely unhappier than she was at the moment, that’s for sure. “Your niece and nephew have been driving me to madness lately and I need something to calm them down. Organic, sugar free brownies will just have to suffice,” she said with a shrug. “This is parenting, big bro. Oh no---can you please not corrupt my children just yet?” Haley shook her head, letting out a small laugh. “You guys were great to me. ‘Ya know, for the most part. I mean letting your sister eat some weed laced brownies for a few years without her knowledge is just where I cross the line,” Haley shrugged, erupting into a fit of laughter.
