In Zelda’s defense, it was pretty easy to get lost in Mushroom City. The metropolis was made up of many districts, which only seemed to get larger by the day. And that wasn’t even getting into how the roads didn’t seem to be planned out particularly well - most of them seemed to just send you around in circles if you weren’t careful! No wonder they were used as race tracks so often. Even in its more suburban areas, you pretty much had to be a local in order to have any hope of knowing your way around.

Luckily for her, she was about to run into one. Literally.

Shelly hurried down the sidewalk, arms loaded with shopping bags. She had arrived at the salon that morning only to discover that they were dangerously low on a whole lot of supplies. Cue one panicked koopa making a frantic beauty supply store run and trying to make it back in time for opening. Needless to say, her nerves were giving her a bad case of tunnel-vision (and the tall bags in both her arms probably weren’t helping, either), so she wasn’t paying much attention to where she was going… which included not noticing the Hyrulean Princess she was about to collide with.

Hopefully Zelda was a bit more aware of her surroundings!

❝...Maybe I’m really not used to large towns after all! I should- AH!❞ In her panic, the princess slammed on her brakes and stopped suddenly. In her musings, Zelda had almost ran into someone. Breathing heavily through her nose, she had narrowly escaped spilling someone’s items in bags all over the street. Now THAT would have been embarrassing. And what, this town was pretty populated too? Everyone would see! Call it being over dramatic, but the princess had pride in knowing she what she was doing ( usually ) and to accidentally mess up and knock into someone? No, she had a reputation to maintain.

As royalty, she had to graceful and elegant. Everything taught by her father. Anything less would be unspeakable to someone of her stature. That’s why Zelda panicked so. Embarrassment flared up, replacing the initial shock and surprise.

❝I-I-I’m so sorry! I should have watched where I was going and...!❞ Composing herself through various quick breaths, Zelda pulls herself up to her fullest height. ❝Please pardon me for almost bumping into you. I am not from around here and... As embarrassing as it is to admit it, I don’t have a map. I am Princess Zelda.❞

Well.... That could have gone a LOT worse, she had to admit. Thank the goddesses she didn't embarrass her in front of everyone!

humble hero:

There was a slight shrug of his shoulders at her question. He would assume no matter what time or place those that were chosen to be the hero were kind. But there was no way to know with absolute certain. “I suppose so.” It was at least something they both agreed upon an easy assumption at the very least. Something he didn’t think about too deeply not as much as the princess appeared to be thinking about at least. 

He wouldn’t argue with her on wanting to thank him in some way. But he really didn’t feel as if that was necessary, after all, he was only keeping her company and that in itself could be reward enough. “It’s really not needed but I’ll remember it if I do need anything.” It was at least an assurance to her that he would tell her if it would come up.

There was a shake of his head at the sudden change in tone.“You don’t need to apologize for him.” Or at least he didn’t feel as if she did. It was the entire reason he was here so it would be pointless to do so. He was all to happy to have been able to help the hero of this era. 

❝I’m really glad Link hasn’t caused you any trouble. Really, he can be quite a handful sometimes.❞ Zelda was actually understating things, but she really did not want to be blunt. To say ‘’Yeah, Link’s kinda eccentric” would be quite uncalled for, considering everything she and her hero went through. However, despite her high praise of the current time’s Link, she knew how... out there her Link can be. Watching over him for a century, she picked up on a few interesting behaviors ( like taking pictures with his foes apparently )  from him.

That being said, the princess was left with no regrets. Not only was her Link apparently well-behaved for the other, it turns out she did not need to offer any kind of reward. On the one hand, she was grateful... Because what could she possibly give to honor him? The Hyrule of the current time wasn’t exactly in peak condition, and it wasn’t like there was a culture capital of shops to browse around for gifts. On the other, she felt slightly guilty. Even if Link was humble and didn’t need anything... She would feel wrong to just thank him with words.

His work was surely deserving of more than that, right? Well, it wasn’t like she could force a gift onto him. She supposed her words were gratitude.

❝Even so, thank you for watching over Link when I couldn’t. You must have guided him well, I’d imagine!❞

Okay, I have a feeling that BOTW Zelda would totally adopt all and every frog! Make a actual animal sanctuary, but with frogs. Slap a frog-friendly environment in Hyrule Castle once she and Link fix it up a bit. Princess of Hyrule? Yeah, so she’s gonna use her royal powers to

SAVE THE FROGS.
