Back in business!

I've been butting my head against Chapter 12 and could NOT find my way in. But tonight I did! I'm back in business, baby! WHOO! I just need to keep up the momentum.

Man, I wish I hadn't agreed to work overtime tomorrow… er, later today. Fuck. Otherwise, I could stay up as late as I wanted/needed to get as much work done as possible, and nap whenever I wanted tomorrow.

But nooo. I said I would work. Ah, well. I haven't worked any OT since early September 2023. And I am not so financially well off that I can just out and out refuse. So, I work. That's okay. If the chapter will be late, it will be late.

I haven’t been very productive tonight in as far as writing is concerned. I’ve got a lot of cleaning and laundry done, but have not put any words to page on my story.

I’ve been trying to work out WHERE this story is going. Because, honestly, I am leaving that comfortable place where I know—more or less—what is supposed to happen. I still have ideas as to where we are going plot wise, but it’s much murkier now.

The really scary part is fast approaching—that dark and forbidding place where I have no fucking clue what is supposed to happen next.

And I HATE not knowing and would like to avoid it as much as possible.

There are NO stupid questions, dammit!

Stupid question of the day: Can you use Super Glue (or its equivalent) to close lacerations? And if so, how? And, more importantly, when NOT to use it.

It is NOT best practice to use, but yes, it can be done. And, well, this is a SPN fanfic and the boys are NOT surgeons. There will be stitches for the worst/deepest wounds, but the smaller ones can be glued or… butterflied? Butterfly bandage. Yeah. works for me.

I am NOT writing a medical procedural story.

Today's stupid question I googled - how is winter mid-morning light different that summer mid-morning light other than not being as warm, of course?

From personal experience, it's harsher. Colder, not just temperature-wise, but color wise. White light with a bit of blue to it. Not warm and golden. Winter sunsets (not directly related to the question, just an observation) generally have cooler toned colors. They make me feel sad, lonely. Make me dread the coming night.

Again, I don't need the science - and Google likes to point me to the more science-y aspects. I just need a feeling, a vibe. Clarity.

And more sleep. Or a better quality of sleep... yeah.

Steal from everything you love. watched a movie and thought "wow that scene hit different"? figure out why and use it. read a book where the banter made you kick your feet? study it. saw a tiktok that made you Feel Things? that's research. keep a notes app full of random lines you'll never use. screenshot tumblr posts at 4am for "inspiration." your influences should be obvious and chaotic. remix everything. that's not theft that's apprenticeship.

Now, I love writing drabbles, but I don't know if I'll participate in this challenge. Writing a new drabble every day takes up a great deal of mental bandwidth. And I'm currently using most of that for my WIP.

HOWEVER! I am not a completionist. There are no rules that say you have to write a drabble for every single prompt. Which means, I could still do a few over the month of May if a prompt sparks an idea.

I'll go over the prompt list and see what we have. Then see what I can do with it. Because it would be a crying shame not to participate AT ALL in a writing challenge that is aimed at my all-time favorite form of 'flash' fiction.

So I did some tidying up then I did some drawing. I’m gonna get something to eat and I’ll do some more cleaning. Maybe later I’ll get some writing done. Who knows?

I got some acrylic markers that I want to use on this picture but first I need to finish drawing but now is the time to do other things.

Since I started writing Retribution I have had to do a lot of reading/video watching/research on various subjects.

Some of these subjects - like hypothermia and trauma response and recovery - have played a large role in the story.

Other subjects like blood spatter analysis, one man room clearing tactics for close quarter combat, or even fireman carry holds may only have one or two sentences or a paragraph at most.

I find doing research – at least on subjects that I find interesting – to be rather fun. The only problem is I am not very good at organizing my notes. Or my rough drafts.

I am a Virgo you think I would be more organized, but I think that’s a stereotype because I am not and never have been a very organized person. But I can be very detailed oriented when I want to be.

My book arrived today

I had lent my sister my copy of Possessed: The True Story of an Exorcism by Thomas B. Allen YEARS ago. And last week I finally just came out and said, "Can I have my book back? You've had it for years."

And do you know what she said? She doesn't know where it is.

I am never lending her ANYTHING again. I let her borrow CDs and she never returns them or returns them damaged. I lent her season one of Game of Thrones and when she finally returned it, one of the discs were missing.

No, I'm not lending her anything ever again. I have finally learned my lesson.

Fortunately, I was able to get a new copy of the book. But I shouldn't have HAD to get a new copy in the first place. *sigh*

Oh, the rabbit holes I jump down

The first rabbit hole I jumped down today was about electricity. How does it feel to stand next to a power station? How would you feel/react if you touched an electric fence? If you GRABBED an electric fence? What sort of injuries? First aid? What if someone were holding on to you when you touched that fence. What would happen to THEM?

The second rabbit hole was sort of, maybe related? Frequencies. Can you short them out? APPARENLY NOT. But you can filter or cancel them. All kinds of science-y shit followed that made my eyes glaze over. Capacitors. Inductors. Faraday Cages?

The fuck?

So, I shifted to metaphysics instead of science. Still a lot going on but not so mind-numbingly... well, not exactly uninteresting but not really relevant to what I was looking for? But, yeah, also, in a word, boring.

Science is cool, I guess, but yeah... Not my thing.

So, now I'm finding shit like Phase Cancellation of the Soul. Solfeggio Frequencies. The "Salt Short" or how in folklore, salt is often treated like a supernatural insulator or ground.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! I am, after all, writing an SPN fanfic. So, this is right up my alley. lol

Now I'm coming across things like the "Biological Ground" Theory. Phase Cancellation. Harmonic Resonance.

You know what? That's a lot of heavy duty reading for something that will only show up in the story for a few sentences or a paragraph or two. MAXIMUM.

Here's one promising idea: "Phase-Cancel" Nullification. And then it says that I should "think of this like Noise-Canceling Headphones."

Okay. I'm done. Not permanently, but mentally I'm feeling a little fried. I'm tired. My throat hurts. I'm taking a nap.

This is a one time post we are making to be clear about something. We don't fuck with negativity and nasty comments, and we have both reached an age where we are not wasting our breath on defending or explaining anything we have written and posted for free on AO3 together.

If you leave a negative comment, a nasty comment, or basically use the comment section of one of our fics to bitch about what you did not like about the fic (why are you here? No one is forcing you to read), engagement stops there. You will be blocked and the comment will be removed.

Concrit on free fan works is a fallacy. Constructive criticism is part of a workshop process that happens BEFORE publication or posting, so all you are doing when you leave a rude comment on someone's work is writing a 1-star yelp review like the Karen you are.

Kindness costs nothing, and what's that old saying? If you don't have something nice to say… maybe grow the fuck up. Peace and love!
