HI!
Oh mah goodness. I really just went MIA for a long time here, huh?
Things have been really crazy in my life the past few months... or however long itās been. I can fully guarantee you that 2017 was personally a whirlwind of a year for me for multiple reasons.
I lost two people in my life. One, a friend whom I had grown up with. He and I had drifted apart after high school, but still kept in touch through social media and all. The other was a very close friend who I met when I was 15. One of my closest friends. Iām still kind of coping with it. And they passed away within two weeks of each other. Both through horrific accidents.
So needless to say, grief has been a strong theme in my life.
It definitely sent me into some depression. My doctor actually put me on a low dose of an anti-anxiety/anti-depressant, and itās helped. My life is still a mess, but at least Iām somewhat more motivated to be a human being.
I ended up going back to camp last summer and working in the kitchen. It just felt right after losing Bill. We had met at camp, and I just knew that it would be the best place for me. Like I said, I still struggle, but I think I made the right choice.
My health has been all over the map. Iāve had bronchitis off and on for about 4 months now. Itās been ridiculous. I was first diagnosed with it back in October. Iām currently on my 6th antibiotic, but Iām finally on a prednisone pack with it, so hopefully itāll kick it totally out of my system now. I would feel better on the antibiotics for a few days after I finished them, and then would just fall back apart. It wasnāt always bronchitis, at one point I had a sinus infection, but then about two weeks ago, the bronchitis came back in full force.
And all that coughing is no bueno for the migraines.
In terms of employment - things are weird. Iām currently working for a Sub company, so Iām a substitute teacher in my local district while I gather the last few credits I need for my Theatre Education Certificate of Eligibility. I was working as the Vocal Director for the musical at the high school, but there were issues with the hiring process, and because Iām not already an employee of the district as a teacher, the board wonāt let them hire me full time. So I worked on the show for about 3 months, and now theyāve had to get someone else who works for the district to come in to finish the job. Iām getting compensated for the time I already put in, and Iāll be popping in from time to time to help withĀ āproblem areasā and to work with some of the leads and such, but itās just really frustrating. And the Director was frustrated as well, because we had a good working relationship and had developed a rapport, and were on the same page when it came to the approach to the show. Iām just hoping that the new vocal director (who I know - sheās a good teacher) will follow the Directorās lead.
But Iām taking my final course, and itās online, so thatās so much more convenient for me. Besides that Iām applying for a job at a local theatre in their fundraising department. So weāll see how that pans out.
In all honesty, I just want to be able to breathe again. And I mean that literally. Between the coughing and the congestion, Iām just exhausted all the time.
AND I have to fly to Atlanta next week for a conference from Wednesday - Saturday (Iām coming home Sunday because Iām going to visit some friends while Iām down there) so being sick just is not an option.
My migraines have been, okay. Theyāre still around, but theyāve been less frequent which is always wonderful. I havenāt gone to PT in quite some time, and my back is starting to get all out of whack again, but Iām going for a massage on Monday, and Iām hoping that helps.
Plus, I really need to get myself back into an exercise routine - but itās been difficult with the whole being sick thing. But doing my PT exercises should help somewhat.
Agh. Someone tell my brain to turn off.
Iāll update again soon!
x Be Well
Iām glad youāre existing
WHEN YOU CANāT FIGURE OUT YOUR TRIGGERS
Sometimes you donāt start your day until 2pm. Sometimes you have to put on a pair of jeans and a nice shirt instead of sweatpants in order to feel good about yourself. Sometimes itās really fucking hard to get up and take a shower or brush your teeth. Sometimes itās really fucking hard to take care of yourself and itās okay. That is okay. Simple things arenāt always easy and simple things being hard doesnāt make you weak, you are doing the best you can and some days there are things you just canāt do and thatās okay. You are healing. You are trying. Do what you need to do to feel good.
How I feel right now....
Things end. People leave. And you know what? Life goes on. Besides, if bad things didnāt happen, how would you be able to feel the good ones?

At first, I was really afraid of how people would react when I told them that I was leaving my graduate program. Iāve been working toward becoming an SLP for many years now, and so I was afraid that when I told people I was hopping onto a different path, they would pity me or think I was crazy.
However, every single person that Iāve told has been nothing but supportive. And when I share what I want to do instead (Iām getting my teaching certificate in Speech Arts and Dramatics) theyāve all said some variation of,Ā āThat sounds exactly right. Thatās what you should be doing.ā
Iām just glad to have so many supportive people in my life who are happy for me. Itās a refreshing change from the high stress crazy environment of academia.

also me: *smacks anyone pointing a camera in my direction*
My therapist and I decided that from now on, when Iām thinking something negative about myself, Iām going to imagine that Donald Trump is saying it, because itās really easy for me to just tell him to fuck off.
Example:
Trump: āYour thighs are fat.ā Me: āFuck you and your fucking wall.ā
I think weāre onto something here.
this is probably the best coping skill Iāve ever seen and I am ten billion percent going to use it too
