Living With Lupus in the Winter Season
This winter, I’m trying to take better care of myself. Lupus flare‑ups hit harder when the weather shifts, and the mood swings, the fatigue, the pain—it all stacks up fast. So I’m going back to the basics: tea, lemon, ginger, water, rest. Simple things I used to rush past because I was always “too busy.”
Sleep has been a struggle for me, but I’m working on it. I meditate in bed now just to calm my mind and lower my blood pressure enough to drift off. And when that strange tingle hits my chest—the one that scares me every time—I pray. I ask God to carry me through another day. Lupus is a hard fight, but I’m still fighting.
I’m also trying not to stress about remote work. I do freelance digital annotation and language projects, but the work isn’t always steady. Some days I feel like I’m juggling my health, my responsibilities, and my future all at once. And then there’s grief.
My mom passed in May 2025 from severe rheumatoid arthritis and other immune issues. She was still young. We still needed her. Losing her while battling my own autoimmune condition has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced. I’m still learning how to live in a world where she isn’t here.
But I’m choosing to keep going. To rest when I need to. To pray when I’m scared. To fight when I feel weak. To hope for a cure—for all of us living with these invisible battles.
Lately I’ve been trying to add more nourishing foods into my routine too. If you’re into simple wellness habits, I shared a beetroot smoothie recipe on my YouTube—something that’s been helping me feel a little stronger.
I’m also working on launching Harmony Health Lupus, a nonprofit project in honor of my mom and everyone fighting autoimmune diseases. I’m starting from zero, but I believe in this mission with everything in me.
