i can’t say i’ve really ever watched anything as devastating as eps 5 and 6 of love in the big city. i haven’t finished the show yet, and i know there’s so much other painful stuff that happens in this show, but those two eps just hit me like a ton of bricks.

there is just something so incredibly devestating about the realisation that ‘normalcy’ just doesn’t work for you. that you could have everything you could feasibly want right there and it still just doesn’t feel right, it still doesn’t fulfill you, it just makes you feel more numb. young has what seems on the surface to be this great romance, with someone that is finally on his level, someone that gets him, that cares for him, that he feels close to and trusts and it all clicks, it all works. so there’s nothing more painful than watching gyuho live out their life behind him while young writes about it. watching gyuho pack up and leave and then return and young is still just writing about it. he won’t live it himself. and it sucks bc as a viewer you just wanna scream “go and be happy with him, go be content with this, it’s good”, but no matter how ‘good’ a thing is, it can’t make it the right thing. which is terrible bc if what’s good isn’t right, then what is? what will work? what if none of it works? and that what makes it so painful. it’s why I sobbed so much watching him go back on that train alone, bc i could feel him sit with the realisation that he might have just said goodbye to his best chance of happiness, which is awful bc he wasn’t even truly happy. he was always smiling, but he wasn’t truly happy.
