Based on your opinions on Seers, what do you think a Seer of Time would be able to See?
Everything.
That’s quite broad, but that’s literally what they’d be able to See. They could look at the expanse of their Timeline and see exactly what events are going to happen, how, and what the outcome to everything they do will be.
They might initially start off literally only being able to See Death and Doomed Timelines, or they might just start off seeing random things altogether; a bit like Jade does because of Prospit. Little snippets of things to come that will ultimately allow them to Know exactly how everything is going to come about, to be, and to End. They have to figure out which Timelines these visions belong to, which are relevant to them, and what that means for their session as a whole.
Seems pretty OP, doesn’t it? Funnily enough, it’s probably not. A Seer of Time is most likely the least capable Seer going - completely against their own desires or abilities.
They can See everything, which means they Know exactly what Timeline they’re in - if it’s Doomed, Alpha, or Irrelevant - and they Know exactly what’s going to happen. This also means they Know there’s fuck all they can do to stop it, besides that which they’re already going to do.
They’re the Time player that’s forced the most to adhere to Time loops. If they See it, it has to happen. Their whole role in their session will be to ensure Time loops happen as they’re meant to, or else go down a different Doomed Timeline that requires them to face another full-force brunt of Time-based information that’ll likely leave them confused. Timelines will tangle together, merge, and become such a mess that they no longer Know which Timeline they’re in or why.
They will likely be able to see other Timelines, although this won’t do much for them. Seeing how another Timeline will go only allows them to acknowledge actions or events they need to do to aid the Alpha timeline. To some degree, they have to come to terms with the fact that a lot of their alternate selves are never going to beat the game. To accept that Death is inevitable, and likely their calling. They have to accept that their version of the session isn’t the one that’s going to win the game, but that there’s something they can do to ensure the safety of the Alpha session.
They’re like a living self-fulfilling prophecy. Any action they take to ensure something doesn’t happen will just Doom the session even more. They’re probably very futilistic as a result, admittedly; but who wouldn’t be when you’re forced to See your own Death every time you look into your Timeline, and then in another breath See the Alpha version of you seeming pretty damn happy.
This is what I’ve gathered from what other Classpectors have said, and I think it’s pretty cool, but I also think there’s a fun way of looking at it now that I think about it more:
Seers of Time have the ability to See things once their alternate selves have died. They can see the Doomed Timelines from the perspective of their alternate selves, and some would have to accept that Death is their route so they can warn the Alpha Timeline NOT to do whatever it was they did.
Think how Davesprite went back to stop John from listening to Terezi. A dead Seer of Time could do that by projecting a vision of their life back to the Alpha self, and warn them ahead of Time what’s going to happen - thereby ensuring that the Alpha Timeline is perfectly safe without causing any Paradoxes (since it was always meant to be, in the Alpha Timeline, that the future self warned the Alpha self of the danger.)
It’s a bit complicated, honestly. But I think that makes the most sense. I might come back to this again when I do a proper analysis on the Seer of Time, but in essence, they can see every Timeline and everything within their Timeline, but are wholly limited to cause their own session’s End based on what they See - and any attempts not to will fuck up their session so completely, even their ghosts wouldn’t have a chance to come back. Either that, or it’ll just turn out that them fighting against it was meant to happen, anyway.
Wow. Very well said.
