IT’S ALWAYS BEEN HARD FOR FERN to take people’s word for anything . genuinely anything . she knows her trust issues run deeper than perhaps anyone can fix them, but this situation might highlight it a bit more than most . but what choice does she have other than to take his word for it ? other than to try to trust for at least the next fifteen minutes ? “… fine .” she hesitates for only a moment before she feels him hold her a bit tighter . somehow she knows it’s more because of her fear of dropping than anything salacious . so fern only sighs before adding a gentle, “thank you .” fern listens to percy speak with a hum, thinking on them for a moment before she’s blinking at his question . “well, doesn’t this feel a little below your paygrade ?” her brow arches . “or like we’re in the middle of some cheesy romcom ?”

percy is far too aware that prior to this night they’d hardly shared much of a conversation , mostly responding to when spoken too as was usually preferred in his job rather than cracking conversation with clients but fern had always been easier to talk too than anyone else . it was nice knowing he wouldn’t be crucified for speaking up with her . “ you don’t need to thank me . “ certainly , it was his job to take care of her but he also knew that there was nothing in his contract to care that he did all on his own . “ does it feel like a cheesy romcom to you ? and to answer your question ... no it does not feel below my paygrade . i do not want you to get hurt . “

it wasn’t that he was trying to wake her up but it was just that he couldn’t believe that the two of them had gotten married. abel had almost immediately noticed the ring that littered his finger and the realization made him check her hand too. the night before had been a blur but the rings definitely helped clear some of what happened up. “i’m not unhappily complaining,” he replied, “i’m just trying to figure out how the hell we ended up getting married.”

saya rubs her eyes again , turning to face him in confusion at the statement . that would be such a silly little cliche wouldn’t it ? they couldn’t have gotten married , surely she would’ve remembered that right ? “ you’re ... joking right . “ it isn’t really a question , more of a statement as she blinks stupidly at him . “ we didn’t get .... married . “ her thoughts trail off finally noticing the rock shining on her finger , not too bad for something scrounge up in vegas . “ oh , you pick this out ? or do you think the casino gave them away . “
