Iluka had little patience for… anything. Impatience was a trait of hers that she was often told that she needed to work on, but in a business where time is money, it was in her blood. That unfortunately meant that her patience ran little in every day interactions as well and when a person bothered her, she let it show. Impatient, bad-temper, stubborn; she was a force to reckon with.

“I’ll accept your apology this time.”

Electra was so relieved that the young woman accepted her apology.

“Thank you, dearly,” She said, “And yes, I will be sure to pay attention to where I’m going and I will do my best to avoid any collisions in the future.”

She let out a sheepish laugh, “With all the people on the islands I doubt I’d run into you again, but if I do please remind me of what you’ve just said. Can you imagine? A chance meeting twice? Why, we’d practically be friends by then!”

“I’m Electra by the way,” She said, holding her hand out for the young woman to shake.

“You’re quite welcome,” Klaus smiled politely, “I’m simply glad saw it. I would recommend putting it where it isn’t so easily lost, though.” There was definitely more to it than that, but he wasn’t about to divulge that little fact. Better things to do than make a young woman fret about getting pick-pocketed. 

“I don’t believe we’ve met,” Klaus continued, “I’m one of the new police officers on the island. My name is Klaus.” He held out his hand. Well, if he may as well begin introducing himself, now that at least one rogue knew his face.

“Of course, you’re right.” Electra replied seriously. She really ought to keep track of her things more. Maybe she should invest in a purse instead of just storing things in the various pockets she’d sewn into her dress.

“A police officer!” She said in surprise. “Well thank you for your duty!” She saluted him.

Then she took his hand to shake it, “I’m Electra. I will be running for mayor! I’m new to Leuda so I hope people like me.”

She let go of his hand and smoothed her dress, “It’s great to be meeting such an important part of the Island!” She laughed, “Of course, the common citizen is the most important part of the island and it’s our duty to protect and serve them, but you know what I mean. Someone who I will be working closely with.”

“Oh dear, it’s embarrassing to recall. But, I was once in a crowded area, and my dress snagged on a fence and it tore. It was absolutely humiliating. I didn’t have the money to buy a new outfit, but luckily I had my travel sewing kit on me. I made my way to the nearest restroom and stitched it up quickly. It wasn’t a very good job, but it lasted me until I could get home and make proper repairs.”

This island was quite an interesting place to live.

Klaus walked down the road, occasionally looking around at all of the people populating the streets with both a careful and curious eye. He had only just moved to the area, and already he was beginning to identify some faces he repeatedly saw around. People he greeted as a policeman (how funny how things turned out this way), those he saw around on his frequent walks around town, and those he simply saw by virtue of routine and nothing more. It was a habit of his, long-since ingrained into him from his youth. Sure, he didn’t know a single name to match with someone in a crowd, but recognition was something he just became accustomed to. Always used to observing those around him, picking out troubling figures…things he learned to do to simply…survive.

Of course, these skills often came in handy. And when he was on duty, it would prove especially useful.

But…not today.

Klaus was only passing by when he noticed that a man’s hand slip into someone else’s pocket, picking out a small wallet. And it was in that moment he was fortunate that he wasn’t in uniform - and that nobody in the crowd could yet identify who he was. If he had been…this man would be too careful to slip up like this in front of a police officer.

“Excuse me…” Klaus’ voice was calm and smooth as his hand shot out, gripping the man’s wrist, “I believe that doesn’t belong to you. Would you kindly give it back? Wouldn’t want to call the police, now would we?” 

The man looked at him like a deer caught in the headlights, and quickly let go of the wallet and tried to run. Klaus merely let go of the man’s hand, letting him go. Klaus knew the face, at least. He could only hope that this encounter would scare the guy enough to give up this kind of thing…but Klaus could at least keep watch if he ever saw the same face in a crowd again.

Klaus sighed, turning his attention to the other person, “I believe this belongs to you?”

Electra was new to Leuda so she wasn’t the best at getting around. She knew the routes to her jobs and to her home, but other than that she was lost on the new island. For anyone else not knowing the island wasn’t a big deal, but as an aspiring mayor Electra needed to know all of the island. So she’d been spending her free time walking around to different places on the island and visiting different businesses.

Today was a day off so she was doing her wandering. And of course, with wandering around a new island she’d got herself lost.

It was about time to be heading home and Electra was sure she’d passed the same buildings twice now. She stopped to recalibrate.

As she was pondering which direction she should head in next she was surprised to hear voices behind her. As she turned she saw one man scurrying off and another man holding out her wallet. What had happened? Had she dropped it? How careless of her!

“Oh! My. Thank you very much,” Electra said, taking the wallet.

“It would’ve been a shame if I’d lost that,” She said, laughing sheepishly. It had her grocery money in it, after all.

Iluka placed her hand on her forehead, shading her eyes from the sun as she looked over the beach. While she enjoyed the warming temperatures that summer brought, she did not enjoy the crowds it brought to her the beaches. Yes, the business it brought was fantastic but when she wanted to enjoy an afternoon to herself, there was a person waiting to ruin it.

Yet, it wasn’t the groups of people that bothered her necessarily. It was the complete disregard those people had for their surroundings. The trash on the sand, bumping into others, obnoxiously loud music that mixed with the obnoxiously loud music of another group. It was as if each person thought they owned the beach when in actuality Iluka owned the beach. Or so she liked to think.

But she was the only person - other than her sister - that she knew to use and appreciate it year round. It only made sense (to her).

While she overlooked the beach and tried to decide if she’d stay, she caught the glimpse of a person approaching her from the corner of her eye. They were moving faster than she approved of, waiting to see if they’d hit her.

“Watch it.”

She snapped, taking the initiative to move out of the person’s way. There would be no good, perhaps a beach in flames, if they were to hit her.

One thing that was nice about the summer was the water at the beach wasn’t too cold to prevent her from collecting shells. Shells made great craft pieces and they were absolutely free! They were also gorgeous, they could beautify anything instantly.

Electra had her shoes in one hand and a full bucket in the other. She kept glancing down at her bucket of shells imagining what craft she’d use each shell for. A voice, a rather upset voice, broke her thoughts and she looked up in surprise.

An incredibly frustrated looking young woman was looking at her. It took Electra a moment to put together what had happened. She must’ve almost run into the young woman, who got out of the way just in time.

“Oh, my deepest apologies. I was lost in my thoughts and not looking where I was going,” Electra felt guilt and embarrassment. She could’ve hurt this young lady! And how had she been so distracted to almost run into someone?

A party sounded wonderful. The invitation was a little strange, but a ball was a ball. She loved dancing and seeing everyone have fun. Plus, big island events like this were a great way to network.

Although Electra wore a fancy dress every day, she had a special dress for big events. She loved wearing it, it was absolutely gorgeous and it made her feel the same. She’d had it since her early 20s and with great care, as Electra always showed her things, it was good as new. Her everyday dresses has modifications, but this dress was left how it originally was when she got it. She couldn’t wait to wear it.

We’re not in Arcade-ia anymore

❃.✮:▹❁ — Nani the heck? Leuda had an arcade too? Oh, man, did Komari make a mistake when she chose Arcadia to live?

The brunette stood outside the entrance, debating whether or not she should go in. On one hand, it was something she wanted to check out. Maybe she could get into gaming, become famous  and get paid for it even!

On the other, what would her father say? Sure, they weren’t on the best of terms, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t actively trying to rebel at whatever opportunity she had. 

Despite these conflicting feelings, she found herself gravitating towards the door and the next thing she knew, she was inside and met with a dim room contrasted with bright neon lights, hyped up music, the kind she had never imagined she’d hear in a lifetime, and lots of machines that she supposed were the games. 

It was like culture shock, all of it, seriously. Komari noticed that up ahead, there was this redhead on one of these games and from the looks of it, she looked pretty decent at it considering the amount of tickets spewing out of the machine. 

Casually, she strolls up and watches from a closer view. It looked sort of easy, but she was sure that in practice it was rather difficult just like any other skill. 

“Whoa…” She let out softly in awe.

Ms Pac Man had been having some issues, so Ann had taken to working on it. She loved working on the arcade machines and had one at her house she would rewire to change controls and do other sorts of experiments with. It was basically practice for work after all!

So now, all the practice (playing around) was coming in handy. It wasn’t the first time she’d fixed one of the machines and it wouldn’t be the last. The arcade had a few older games that needed a little help sometime.

After fixing it Ann went to test it (play around). She’d played the game a million times so she was pretty skilled.

After awhile Ann felt a presence behind her. She glanced back and noticed a girl. She gave her a smile before turning back to the game and intentionally dying because play time was over and now it was job time.

“Welcome to Quantum Arcade,” Ann said turning around and leaning against the machine, “Need anything?”

“Runaway wheel!”

Their eyes on a map of the islands, Calvin had to look up to see what was being yelled about. They saw the girl running toward him but didn’t see what she meant until it hit their boot. Surprised, Calvin looked down, but before they could pick it up she was already there and reaching for it. 

Calvin chuckled. “Glad you caught your escapee.” They paused, noticing something behind her, and nodded toward it. “Ah, I think you have something else trying to make a break for it.” What was that? A tray on… wheels? One wheel, right now, since she held the other. But there it went, down the other side of the hill and slowly gaining speed as it went. Calvin hurried toward it since they had already spotted it. Might as well help. 

“Thanks!” Ann said, “And thanks for stopping it!”

She turned at what he said to look back at where she’d been to see her machine rolling away. “Ah!” She shouted.

She quickly followed after the man towards her invention.

Ann let out a huff and shouted exasperatedly “How is it like herding cats when they’re not even sentient!” yet.
