Both snake and lamb
I’m glad you’re alive.
The Gimli Glider is one of those stories where every aspect sounds more fake than the last and yet it all actually happened.
-A passenger plane was underloaded with fuel because Canada had just converted to the metric system and everyone supposed to double check their numbers got it wrong. -When the plane ran out of fuel they were too far away to make it to an in-service airport and had to head towards the Gimli military base. Which was shuttered. -They were coming in to fast due to a lack of flaps control and had to perform a series of slips (as shown in the video above) to slow down, basically drifting a giant passenger plane. -As they come down they realized that just because Gimli’s been decommissioned doesn’t mean it’s abandoned because a bunch of people are having drag races on the runway they’re about to need. -Despite everything they managed to land safely and no one was killed or even hurt which is why it’s one of the best air disasters to meme on.
The Wikipedia page on this is fantastic and my favorite line from it is “Flying with all engines out was never expected to occur, so it had never been covered in training.”
Nice
Read the Wikipedia page and have two more things to offer:
- initially the pilot was going to make a full 360 turn to lower the speed, but decided he doesn’t have enough altitude
- some people did get hurt a little and you know how? While exiting the aircraft
Some scenes from Shoot Your Shot on ao3, a laloward fic by @villa-kulla that changed my brain chemistry

if you ever feel happy remember that they
being in your 20s is like im 17 and i don't know who i am. im 55 curled up with a book. im ancient. i've been here forever. i never left. i'm 5 years old and i'm lost at the supermarket
honey we are ALL doomed by the narrative.. it’s not that serious. have some fun with it
bye gongeous (seals you in the tomb forever)
Sometimes explicit sex is thematically important to a story and sometimes it is not. Sometimes explicit bigotry is and sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes violence is necessary to deliver a stories tone and immerse yourself in the characters perspective correctly and sometimes it isn’t
The inclusion of taboo subjects in a work of art isn’t inherently there as indulgence for the author, even if it is displayed graphically and without censorship. However in the case that it is you have to remember to not find fault in the raw content itself but rather the creators handling of it. When consuming media critically you must always be aware of its creators, first and foremost. There is no analysis without analysis of the brain behind it, because unlike the real world fiction is a product of someone else’s will and cognition
fuck you guys for bringing up the concept of true crime fuckers in the breaking bad universe. im imagining poor flynn just trying to live his fucking life after having it destroyed by his dad, trying to go to school and support his mom and his little sister and his aunt from a distance, and edgy mf’s keep bothering him for details and making stupid memes about his dad to post on the college facebook. podcasters thinking they’re changing the world by pestering flynn nonstop, coming to his fucking college campus to try to “get his perspective” and “show his side of the story” and “get him justice” when what he really wants is to be left tf alone to grieve and rebuild his life. he won’t tolerate it when they try to bother his mom or aunt marie and lies to them about how often he’s approached and accosted for info on the case, telling them it doesn’t happen, when in reality he’s harassed on the fucking daily just because his dad decided to act in his own self interest and flynn made the mistake of loving him.
gale’s death isn’t funny because it’s sad and it fucked up jesse for life but also it is EXTREMELY funny because the whole reason gale got wrapped up in this mess is he got gus’s gay little chemistry scholarship and was so good at fucking idk vacuum distillations that gus recruited him to be his special little meth consultant and assigned him to be walt’s new partner. then gale fell in love with this abusive salt lamp of a man to the point where he recited poetry to him and gave him a fruity little present, only to promptly be fired because walt couldn’t go six minutes without psychologically tormenting jesse and then he gets fucking shot in the face by this very psychologically tormented baggy t-shirt boy who is sobbing and crying the whole time?? in his own home?? in his own little gay sandals?? fucking unbelievable.
happy pride here's one minute of mlm hostility
