Adam's whole reason for not feeling bad about exterminations has sense.

In hell is definitely many bad people and a lot of murderers, pedophiles, rapists, and so on. Yet from some reason the writers insist that Adam is a bad guy and evil while people in hell are "so innocent".

Viv says that Charlie has flaws and not her writing, but everything says the opposite because if the writing was good Charlie wouldn't be so dumb and she would face moral dilemma about people of hell.

That not everyone can or should be redeemed. Because currently the show seems to spread the message about how everyone can get redeemed.

But what about the victim's of people in hell. Do they deserve to spend the eternity knowing that person who abused or killed them is in Heaven with them?

And, if I'm being honest, but depending on what exactly you did, feeling sorry for what you did can't grant you redemption.

If you have the capacity to know that what you did was wrong, why couldn't have you had that capacity then!?

Honestly I think my actual issue with Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss isn't the bad writing but harmful and insensitive writing.

so Alastor is a black man who is a "pet" to a white woman, Niffty is Japanese and has an anime sequence, Valentino is Hispanic and a pimp and a rapist, Angel is an Italian mobster, Husk is black and an alcoholic gambler AS WELL AS the "magical negro" archetype, and all of the Bible characters are now white and... we dont see the racism there? cool

I wish more emphasis was placed on the fact that Charlie is inherently inhuman. She is a demon. Born and raised in hell. Show Charlie feels too human for at least over 100 year old demon princess born and raised in hell. She doesn’t just misunderstand people in the more cutesy out of touch rich kid way she does in the show, but in a weird, offputting way. She tries to be human but fails miserably, because she fundamentally cannot understand humanity as a demon. I think this would be a very interesting direction to take her character.

One of my biggest gripes with Charlie is she feels too human in the way she reacts to the environment she grew up in. She is disgusted by the cannibals and the violence of them, but this makes no sense as she grew up in hell all her life. Charlie should be used the gritness and griminess of her home. I understand this is too make Charlie the odd one out, but it doesn’t make any sense for a person raised here all their life.

I think this could be a better way of exploring Charlie’s naïveity and her unawareness about sinners despite being there all her life, because there is a fundamental difference between them.

I imagine this Charlie to be kind of be like Caine from TADC, and her pilot self: overzealous, hyperactive, a tad zany maybe even, overly nice to a fault, very eager to please but often misunderstands what it is her guests really need and want, leading to more problems than actually helping people.

Like Caine, this could be endearing and fun at first, but it could get grating over time for the other characters, and something Charlie has to get over, and learn how to understand to sinners to actually help them achieve redemption.

A fun concept that would’ve been a completely different story is if Charlie’s emphasized trait is her being non-human.

Charlie’s design could be kept and could signify that she is trying to relate to humans but doesn’t understand them. (Personally I’d keep the theme of a humanoid object and do something different, but still-) It could be a way to explain why she doesn’t know how redemption works without writing her as childish. I really wanted her to be written as old as she actually is! Charlie could be able to read situations, but overcorrects when putting trust in people. Another reason could be how extremely different her life is. She lived longer than any human, never had typical growth/change experiences, and never lived in the mortal realm. This information should inform all interactions she has with characters. I think it would also be why so many people didn’t take the hotel seriously or thought it was for something else! What would a demon know about humanity and being good? Charlie could have a moral system that is drastically different and may have committed a lot of bad things in the past, but tries to be better. I think it would be fun to write her as very off-putting but well meaning because she doesn’t know how to be good from the standards of everyone else.

Maybe a bulk of the story could be about Charlie building the hotel and attempting to learn from humans about how to make it work. The beginning portion could be a test for the real thing, but the guests unintentionally learn more about themselves along the way.

Digital Circus Was Balls Enough To Answer A Question About Redemption: Not Everyone Can Be Redeemed And Some Self-Destruct And Become Worse

I Think TADAC with Jax showed that nope you can't redeem everyone and some people are a lost cause. And that's a hard pill to swallow. Redemption is something that is long and hard to recognize but the outcome is worth it and you will be a better person. But some people are so stuck in their toxic ways that they rather destroy themselves than change. And that's why Jax ultimately abstracted and it's something that Viv will probably be ballsey enough to do which is actually kill off a significant character with flaws who is very toxic but ultimately chooses to stay a pos. The closest could be Alastor but we know she is very protective of her favorites and won't ever think to actually make go through serious self-reflection on his behavior to improve or make a point he doesn't want to get better and Charlie's views are naive to keep someone like him tied with her. And most of all Jax unlike so many in the Hazbin series blames himself for how he is rather than try to shift blame. Hazbin's biggest sympathy card is use sad backstory to justify character and think that's a ticket to redemption, but in contrast TADAC says no a sad backstory doesn't shield you from being a pos who hurts others around them. When you continue to treat others like shit and push them away then you will undoubtably lead down a dark path like Jax ultimate fate was. People can't be saved if they don't put in the effort and that's the point that Hazbin misses which is putting in effort.

It's Funny How People Rag Harder On Octavia For Being Fed Up With Her Dad (Rightfully), But Not Charlie For Blowing Up On Her Dad And Not Caring He Was Hurt

As much as I hate Lucifer myself, I do think it's shitty how Charlie acts like a spoiled brat when he was helping her and didn't give as much of a shit to check on him when he was used as a battery. She is supposed to be our caring, sweetheart of a protagonist but doesn't really have show of good empathy towards her own damn dad. And you see clowns defend her as if she doesn't have to baby him. However, Octavia is bashed on by fans for daring putting her own dad in her place for consistently failing her as a dad and choosing to focus on his boy toy rather than his duties towards her. They even say she should defend her dad from her mother when she's the child and he's the parent. They put more expectations for a neglected minor to care for her shitty dad rather than an adult woman showing any genuine care when he was in danger. It really shows skewed this show makes the fans morally and how they baby immature adults over mature minors.

Okay, I wanna add more to the double standards between Octavia and Charlie. In particular, about how Charlie treats her father.

As much as people say that there are things that should be up to the parent to do, that it's unfair to put it on the child even if said child is an adult, I believe that any adult should be held to adult standards, especially when they go higher and higher up in age. (The only exceptions would be that they're too mentally unequipped for one reason or another and no, I'm not talking about neurodivergency). So that means that there some things that adults should know when it comes to how to treat their parents. Besides, in order to have healthy relationships, whether it's platonic or romantic or familial, then love and care is a two way street. It can't be all take and no give.

That seems to be Charlie's problem. She keeps focusing on what she wants to the point that she only sees in what others have to give her to help accomplish what she wants.

Inviting Vox and Velvette to the hotel and still trying to prove to them redemption works after Angel made it clear how uncomfortable and scared he is? Angel's discomfort and fear doesn't matter as much as proving to Hell that redemption works, which she can show with Vox's TV studio and networks and Velvette's social media sites

Wishing that Alastor was at the hotel when he's held hostage? Well, it's because she wishes things to be easier for her hotel if she had Alastor's 'help' so she just sounds annoyed that Alastor's held hostage. Even then, she doesn't go and rescue him or anything, which means she doesn't know that it's all part of Alastor's 'plan' for him to be a captive (unless I'm wrong about that, I'm just going on tumblr posts to know what's happening in season 2)

Angel going back to Valentino because he's been brainwashed and not in the right state of mind? That doesn't matter as much as guests pouring back into her hotel and there's nothing that Angel can contribute that would warrant saving him. After all, she seemed to just go to Angel's studio to get him time off to focus on the hotel rather than caring about Angel himself so I'm inclined to believe that she doesn't care about Angel because he's got nothing left to give her now that she got one thing that she wanted

And of course, she screeches ungratefully at her dad for trying to help with the hotel like he promised he would because he's her scapegoat for Vox once again twisting things to make heaven look bad. Because she's apparently in hard denial that Vox would have twisted things regardless of whether Lucifer showed up or not. And Charlie keeps constantly calling a mom who never answers any texts or returns any calls and Charlie's probably been doing that for seven straight years even though she still has a father who still calls her sometimes and immediately came to the hotel at her request. Because apparently it's Lilith's approval that Charlie wants; Lucifer's approval isn't as valuable. In fact, maybe Charlie has Stolas's problem to a lesser extent, that she wants things that she can't immediately have or is denied of. It would definitely explain why Charlie is obsessed enough to keep trying to contact Lilith 24/7 despite having no real reason to believe her calls and texts would ever be returned, especially if, again, she's been doing that for seven consecutive years. Fuck, Charlie even tried contacting Lilith again at the end than take a moment to check up on her father to see how he's doing after everything (Because it shouldn't matter to someone how strong their parent is; that's still their fucking parent and the love and care should still make someone concerned)

I do wanna end this by saying that it should definitely never be put on a child to deal with their parents' marriage problems, just to list an example of what children, even as adults, shouldn't have to deal with. Seriously, as much as kids are right there and free, they're still not therapists or something to soothe people. So no, Octavia shouldn't have to keep defending her dad and forgiving him every time she gets hurt personally by him; that's just forcing her to grow up faster than she has to, which the dad doesn't think is happening because it's nothing bad happening to him. If anything, Octavia already defended her father even though she was pissed off at him and was fed up with him, which goes to show how much she still loves him. Yet some people still rag on her for not, I think in their eyes, not loving Stolas as much as he should be loved

The difference in wording here is so small but so important. Because it's a real examination of why Charlie's character (as well as the show's lesson) is failing now in the show.

Not everyone can be redeemed. Anyone can try to atone, but there are things that people have done that they can't make up for. But the point of Charlie's dream (or what should be the point) is that everybody should be given the chance and the resources to try and be better.

It's a way more realistic and mature outlook on what she's trying to accomplish. Even though Pilot Charlie is naive, this shows that she has genuinely put thought and effort into her goals. Show Charlie feels like she's never considered the implications and is continuously caught off guard by how awful her people are because of it.

There's also the hope vs belief aspect of it. Pilot Charlie is optimistic and willing to do the work even with the risk that it won't work. Show Charlie is so rooted in her beliefs that she's never logically considered the alternative

There's a lot of shit to talk about this season, but there's something I feel like we need to talk about.

How Stella is treated by the narrative and fandom versus how Vox and Val are treated.

Why Vox and Valentino can gain a moment of empathy from the series and be treated cutely by the fandom (with people making cute headcanons of them and cute comics) but Stella can't?

What I'm trying to say is:

Why can Vox and Valentino be humanized and Stella cannot?

It's funny how this fandom loves to humanize Vox and Valentino by saying things like "even abusers are human too."

And well, they're not wrong about that.

But the irony is that when you try to do the same thing with Stella, you get attacked by them and you're not allowed to humanize her.

"Oh, you're trying to make her out to be a tragic abuser, but she's not, and she doesn't care about the arranged marriage."

Oh yes, but you can humanize rapists and human traffickers, right?

I'm not one to accuse others of things, but the reason of this is 100% sexism: the helluvaverse shows have an awful habit of finding ways to minimize and demonize women for every little thing they do. stella was cheated on by stolas and wants vengance for the damage he's done? no nuance allowed, she's just a crazy and all of a sudden stupid woman who is an abuser so you CANT like her, but lets make a bunch of merch of her anyways

meanwhile valentino and vox get infinitely more screen time than her, more praise and excuses, validation, affection and support. idek how to explain what is going on here because the jokes just write themselves.

Hellaverse and "Kill your darlings"

When music video of Chaz was posted, there was obviously a controversy with how it was marked but also with the fact that we now have 2 videos about a character that is supposed to be dead, meanwhile other more important characters got ZERO attention or development.

On YouTube I saw comment to one video (by Arjun I believe, I know it was titled "How Chaz will ruin HB") and the comment said something along the lines of "this is why you need to able to kill your darlings".

I agree with this statement and I think that this applies to the bigger issues in Hellaverse than just Chaz getting more attention by the writers. The comment was very short so I will talk in a bit more detail why that's important because I remembered some points that I didn't see people mention.

WARNING FOR A LONG ESSAY BELLOW

I will firstly start from what exactly "kill your darlings" means. It may be pointless but I still want to talk about it.

Obviously that isn't a writing rule but more so a writing advice.

Not every story needs to have your characters die. Heck I personally have a story where I want most of my OCs to survive. There's other ways to add tension. For example when I watched Game of Thrones I got a spoiler about certain character dying and later on in which episode they will die. But when I watched the actual episode I still felt the tension due to the presented vibes.

"Kill your darlings" is definitely more so about the set up and of course to give your characters PERMANENT consequences. The consequences don't need to be death but depending on what happened they need to have an aftermath, to prove that something has happened and it affected the story or the characters in one way or another.

And both HB and HH proved that the writers aren't able to prove us that.

When Adam ends up being killed NO ONE IS PUNISHED.

When Vox kidnapped Lucifer and tried to break into heaven he was punished BY HIS FRIENDS, HIS COWORKERS, not Hells legal system.

There's also a big problem with writers writing situations that should affect the narrative more than they do in cannon.

Meet Vega⭐️🦋

Made an updated design of my Vega. Added more to her uniform top, gave her a skirt, added bow ties for her boots, gave her gold nails(gold blood), added more eye motifs, inverted her hair color and her cloak is on her most of the time, before taking it off during her development. Like Vaggi changing hairstyles with her bow. I also added a lil cut to her antennae like V’s bow.

Vaggie is a badly written character

You know that trope where the hero kills brutally the villains henchmen without regret but from some reason decides to spare the villain, well that's basically what happened in the season 1 finale of HH when Vaggie spared Lute EVEN though she had no problem with killing her fellow exorcists.

People say that she didn't killed Lute because of her character development BUT if that's the case then why did she kill other exorcists?

I mean in season 2 we get a flashback of Lute and Adam mistreating Vaggie and another girl and it seems implied that they were generally like that towards most of the exorcists.

So that means that Vaggie was perfectly fine with killing women that could have been ABUSED the same way she was.

While I believe that even when the writers do review of the script and try to fix mistakes, there can be plot holes, USUALLY, they aren't so obvious to the viewer.

a pet peeve I have about vaggi’s design is how stupid short her skirt is.

by this screenshot alone, if one understands basic anatomy and proportions, you can see how the bottom of her skirt is like, centimeters away from her namesake. how she’s not accidentally flashing people on the regs is a mystery. I genuinely can’t tell whether or not the animators did this on purpose.

they do the same thing with verosika in helluva, but I can mostly excuse her since she’s an active succubus.

vaggi however, is not. in fact, regardless of the fact she’s an angel, she does not seem like the type to wear miniskirts seeing how shes more modest and kind of prudish. not to mention she’d just look cooler in pants. I guess they wanted to keep certain elements from her outfit in the pilot, they just chose poorly.

If I’m going to be so incredibly honest, I think quite literally the only reason(s) Vaggi has a miniskirt despite skirts with no pants, leggings, or even just long shorts underneath being the worst possible sartorial choice for a character who’s trying to act as a bodyguard figure are 1) to contrast with Charlie because the writers can’t conceive of a relationship where both characters present the same way (that isn’t MLM), 2) because the designers are lazy, and/or 3), to make her sexier. Considering Vaggi has been made to personify the “spicy Latina” stereotype in several different contexts, both sexually and in terms of attitude and quick escalation to violence, the third option is especially bad— though, to be fair, that’s probably just my over-analytical mind talking. Regardless, it also just doesn’t look very good and doesn’t really make sense. It’s not remotely in line with her character, it’s not a very good choice to combat readiness, and it just looks out of place.
