"I ain't much for thinkin' things are a coincidence."

He shifts a little, looking back at Alu. "With the influx of human souls bein' dragged into Hell with the invasion, I doubt Nevon is the only place makin' that kind of power possible." He says. He did have someone he could ask, but as to whether or not he'll help, that's another matter entirely. Lord knows the Khan won't be helpful, especially if she is behind this as he suspects she is. "But it'd be worth lookin' into it, see if there is one of those argent factories within it."

He kneels down then, holstering his weapon and he draws a couple of symbols in the dirt with his finger. Markings he'd seen on Makyr structures. "You and your Resistance, you seen any marks like these?"

"Argent Energy..." The name sounds familiar. He believes he's heard it before, but he's never understood what it's supposed to be or where it's come from. Yet as the Slayer speaks, as he explains, he can see the goat's eyes beginning to widen in dawning horror. For the first time, the demon shows genuine signs of distress. He steps back, hooves pawing anxiously at the ground. Behind him, his tail whips and lashes like a disgruntled cat's.

"You're not suggesting that..." He doesn't want to believe it. He doesn't want to even think about the implications. But he knows it already. It makes too much sense. Adds up too perfectly. And it makes him sick to his stomach. That amount of power... that kind of steady supply... it was more than Novem's population alone could supply. The idea that demons were going from keepers of their own peaceful realm, to wardens of a realm modified into a prison where no soul went for any reason other than to suffer? All for what - so some "higher power" had fuel for their own grand plans?

It felt like the divine betrayal all over again.

He has to swallow the bile in his throat and adjust his footing to avoid falling over. Thankfully, the symbols the Slayer draws in the dirt give him something to focus on other than his own nausea. He shakes his head a bit, trying to push back the ache and the turn in his stomach. His head lowers, snout brushing the ground as he sniffs at the pictures like they'll offer some deeper understanding of the lines and circles.

"Yes, a few of these look familiar. We figured it was some sort of other language the Makyrs used - some variation of the Celestial Alphabet." He looks back up at the marine with slight tilt of the head. "Where exactly it pops up seems... random. No consistency, though that may be just because we haven't managed to full translate it yet."

It's a lovely thing for him to say, and she suspects the sentiment is genuine as opposed to simple flattery, but it registers as a kind of bittersweet presage in the depths of her young mind. And so the morning creeps on, as do they. Through thick foliage and the undergrowth teeming with wildlife -- chirping birds, the chitter of squirrels, the darting of rabbits and dragonflies, the silent wings of butterflies dancing on new blooms - the trees hover and watch them pass. The mist dissolves, falling away like a curtain to reveal the distant sights and sounds of civilization.

Alu drinks it in with measured eye. It is... somewhat busier than he expected. Certainly more developed than his last haunt in New World Puritanica. Yet, socially, it is hardly different.
