when it takes you a while to process what someone is saying and you realize they asked you a question
I cannot fucking believe I am drunk, past midnight, and tumblr is throwing fucking saturated fatty-acids at me
Listen here friendo I didn’t sit through a year of organic chemistry for you to come into my house and call a carboxylic acid a saturated fatty acid you respect that hexadecanoic acid
And I didnt get a degree in biochemistry to hear you say that carboxylic acids with aliphatic chains arent fatty acids. That hexadecanoic acid IS a saturated fatty acid!
I asked my kids if they’d prefer a secret garden or a secret library and my son shook his head and was like “I don’t trust the secret gardeners and librarians”
Me: what if there aren’t any gardeners or librarians.
Son: there’s always a librarian. Just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there. And it’s a garden, there has to be someone taking care of it or it isn’t really a garden.
Me:
Me: this was supposed to be lighthearted
Daughter: don’t trust the secret librarian.
Son: any librarian who hoards a library to themselves is hiding something.
Daughter: /nods seriously/
Me: why are you two talking as if from experience should I be concerned
The kids are right Jazz
But what if I want to be the secret librarian?
Me: what if you were the secret librarian?
Son: wouldn’t be a secret library. I have nothing to hide.
Daughter: so not a secret librarian. A good librarian.
Me: you two are on a wavelength I can’t understand
What a way to find out your kids went on a whole-ass portal fantasy adventure at some point.
at some point you have to realize that you actually have to read to understand the nuance of anything. we as a society are obsessed with summarization, likely as a result of the speed demanded by capital. from headlines to social media (twitter being especially egregious with the character limit), people take in fragments of knowledge and run with them, twisting their meaning into a kaleidoscope that dilutes the message into nothing. yes, brevity is good, but sometimes the message, even when communicated with utmost brevity, requires a 300 page book. sorry.

I was just gonna leave this in the tags, but I figured...why not.
If y'all wanna read more about why The Gambia is one of the few countries that meets these requirements, you can read more about their advocacy work during the lead up to the Paris Agreement in Everything That Rises by Brianna Craft

Have I mentioned that I love SessKik? I don’t think I talk about them enough, but I unabashedly ship these two emotionally stoic characters who only had one non-canon scene in a movie together.
I commissioned the amazing @neimana for art of them and I’m so in love with how the finished product came out. They were seriously awesome to work with. Thank you again!
does anyone actually have a good relationship with both their parents?? I'm curious
i can tell this post opened several cans of worms so let me just point out a few things:
-i am glad you found a place to express yourselves despite my early jokes on this thread
-my reason to ask this question is that i would love to be a mother in some distant future, and have been mentally listing off how to avoid my parents' mistakes, because i wouldn't want my kids to hate me as much as —as i realized earlier this week— me and most of my friends all seem to hate at least one of our parents
-I don't have a good relationship with my father. I am not interested in changing this, so to anyone suggesting dialogue, thanks but no thanks, not really looking for advice.
-for anyone else going through this: this is perfectly okay. you don't have to forgive your parents for shit if you don't want to. Some things are plain unforgivable, and some people quite simply aren't worth the emotional distress (if it sucks, hit da bricks, y'know?). You don't have to love your parents, ok? You don't owe it to them. Just do what is best for you.
-people who talked it out with their parents: I'm so glad for you.
-people who claim dialogue is a fail proof solution that is always worth it: your experiences are not universal.
-people who gave me hope that i could break the chain of generational trauma and maintain a healthy relationship with any children i might have in the future: thank you. I really needed to hear that.
