the goonies: what was the last thing to make you laugh?
Lame dad moment but Lola totally scared herself with her own fart. I died laughing. She did not think it was that funny. I thought it was hilarious.
Liana rubbed at the back of her neck as they walked. “I did a few sketches actually. I thought- if you wanted- I could bring it back to what it was but also give it a few additions. Just small things.” She was very aware that she tended to get over-zealous with things and over the years had done her best to reign herself in. She didn’t like putting people off with her enthusiasm. “Feel free! I’ll have all the fun and make Nate do all the messy stuff,” she said with a laugh. In all honesty she didn’t mind messy, but she loved to tease her cousin. “Cyrus has been amazing. I… I used to look for family in all the wrong places. It finally feels like I’m in the right place now.”
“Of course I want.” Henri replied easily. “I think it needs more of an improvement, you know. Create a fun space for Miss Lola here to play.” He continued with a nod, seeking to encourage Liana’s dreaming. “Ohhh mean to poor Nate. He deserves it but still.” He shrugged lightly, “You were always meant to be here Li... I’m sure of it. You’re home.” As if agreeing with her father or tired of being ignored, Lola squealed in agreement from her stroller.
Jae grinned at the baby, feeling comfortable with her in his arms. He always did like children. “Daddy’s already getting choked up and you’re not even ready for preschool yet,” he said. He chuckled at Henri’s faux heartbreak from they’re equally faux relationship. “Well if you’re looking to get someone else pregnant, I wouldn’t have been able to help anyway.” Looking at Lola, he imagined her a little grown, wobbling on the ice. It brought him back to his younger days, his first days of skating. “I’ll have you fitted for your first pair of skates the second you’re stable on your feet. We might have an Olympian on our hands.”
Henri laughed at Jaewon’s teasing. Lola laughed along, even though she didn’t comprehend the joke. A stream of baby babble tumbled out as the adults amused themselves. “I know it’ll happen fast but I still have a hard time picturing it. So what else is new? I haven’t seen you around hardly at all lately.”
Sometimes people had a way of tip-toeing around Emeline. She didn’t know if it was because she was a submissive, a woman, had been on tv, or something else, but it frustrated her. It was because of that frustration that, even though his words were hard to hear, Em appreciated them. She picked at her thumbnail as she held Lola, considering his words. “I… guess you’re right. In some ways. It isn’t fair of me to not tell him. He’s too good for that. He deserves more. He deserves… the choice.”
“Either tell him or move on from him. And if you really don’t want to tell him, ell that’s a message in and of itself. Move on Em. You’re just limiting your life while staying in this holding pattern.” Henri replied, a little exasperated with his friend. Nodding down at Lola who was contentedly ensconced in Emeline’s arms. “Don’t you want a family one day? You’re never going to have it if you keep going like this Em.”
“I’m forever that sober friend, Sir.” Rory let out a soft chuckle. While her friends had wanted to try ayahuasca, she obviously couldn’t because of her heart. She didn’t want to risk anything; so she’d merely opted out entirely. She didn’t mind not being able to partake in such things, though. Sometimes being the sober friend had its perks. She got to laugh at the wild things her friends did whilst drunk and/or high. “A walk?” She confirmed his words before continuing on. “I, um, I wouldn’t want to intrude if you wanted to enjoy a lovely stroll with just your daughter.” His invitation was nice; though she was hesitant to accept. She really didn’t want to feel like she was overstepping any boundaries, even if he had offered. “Thank you, though.”
“Well on behalf of all the drunk fools in the world - thanks.” Henri replied and then laughed. He nodded as she affirmed his question. “Are you sure? She gets very excited when we get to the duck section. It is fun to see. Last time she threw birdseed right into the face of a poor duck. it was hysterical.” He offered as he slowly rose to his feet, balancing his daughter on his hip as he did so.
“I am honored,” Lin said. Lately, it seemed that he was being noticed. Seen by other people. All of the sudden. “I like her too. She’s good company.” Lin was happy to give his attention to Lola. Now that he’d gotten her approval, it felt easier.
Henri laughed at Lin’s reply. Such a serious dude. It was entertaining. “See ... I think so too. Most people think babies are boring but I actually think she’s a lot of fun, especially when she actually lets me sleep at night.” He agreed with a nod. “Are you all done with school now?” Lola had lost interest in the adult conversation around her and was diligently focused on trying to remove a button from Lin’s shirt.
“Did you try that tea? Aya… Whatever it’s called?” Rory couldn’t exactly recall the name of the tea with hallucinogenic she’d come across whilst in Brazil. She, of course, hadn’t tried it; but a few of the others in her travel group had. They’d said it gave them a nice trip, helped them open their minds and heal past traumas. “Ayahuasca!” The name came to her; though she knew the word that escaped her lips most likely sounded nothing like the actual name of the tea. “I know it’s a fairly popular thing for people to try whilst in South America. Not my thing; but I had a few friends try it.”
Henri nodded, “Yes! So fun. Honestly. Go with a sober friend though. My recommendation. Always a bit dangerous to mix if you are on other medication though.” He laughed and reached for his small daughter, placing her on his knee. “We were going to walk down by the water, care to join us?”
“What? Walk around in my nightgown with my hair all messy?” She shook her head. “I don’t know if I could. But you can always come visit me on the few Sundays that I take off if you like when I look like this.” She shook her head before she hummed. “But enough about me, cher. What have you been up to? Tell me your life.”
“Just you ... feels like I am seeing the woman behind the mask. So beautiful to see it.” Henri replied softly and then shrugged. “Not too much really. Lola is crawling now so that’s fun. First steps aren’t far away. Babbling is all she is doing language wise though so hoping for a first real word any day now.”
Lin looked at Henri when he heard the man’s voice. “Oh…not tortured really. And it’s just one bossy girl.” He smiled at the baby. She was so enthusiastic. She was going to be so much better at socializing than he was. It was clear that she was already quite adept. “Yeah, I’m okay.” He was still a little nervous. After all, he was holding a living child. Her well-being was precious and currently in his hands. But he was getting to know her. “She’s holding pretty tightly so I don’t think it would matter either way.”
“She’s decided you’re one of her people now. The minute she saw you, she booked it for you as fast as she could crawl.” Henri replied before taking a sip of his beer. “When you are ready to do something else than hang out with a one year old, it’s okay to give her to me. She just likes you a lot.”

17] What Olympic sport would you love to excel at?
Ohhhh... this one sounds so fun. Let’s see. What sport would I pick? Probably something that would be fun to do long after I had a fancy professional career like snowboarding. I think that would be a lot of fun.
20] Favourite childhood TV show?
I really loved the Muppet Show when I was a kid. Fozzie Bear was my favourite. I even got Lola a Fozzie Bear plushie because I loved it so much. I also really loved the old men who heckled from the stands.
“Of course, I’d love to,” Jae agreed, letting Henri take the lead in how Lola would like to be held. Once the baby was in his arms, he smiled at her. “A year old. My goodness. Before you know it, she’ll be off to college and you and I will be old.” He chuckled. “I’m training for my next season,” Jae assured Henri. “Dating? And you didn’t think to seek out me, your old flame?” It was a joke, of course, over their fictional, minutes-long relationship. “But I don’t think this is karma. Sounds like you’re just in a new phase of your life. Just think about once she’s older. Then you’ll be able to travel together. You’ll get to show her all the things you love about the world.”
Lola offered no objections as her father dislodged her and passed her to his friend. Lola looked at this new person with renewed interest, small hands weaving into Jae’s shirt. “Shhh ... terrible words. I can barely handle the idea of her going to school all day. I’ll be so bored. Might need to go get someone else pregnant!” He joked. Then he shook his head, hand pressed to his heart, “Ahh... the wound was so fresh. My heart barely recovered. “ He continued, before laughing, “She’s just looking forward to her skating lessons.”
Lola seemed quite pleased to be held, which never failed to surprise Lin. He listened to her baby babble, nodding along seriously. “Ah, I see,” he said. “That’s very interesting. Please, tell me more.” He encouraged the baby to go on, wondering if in her mind she was forming actual words, actual meaning.
Henri was amused to see Lin playing along with Lola’s baby babble. She was so earnest, little feet swinging cheerfully as she continued to explain her thoughts to her captive audience. Finally Henri decided to take pity on his friend and slowly rose to his feet, crossing the floor to approach Lin. “Being tortured by bossy girls?” Henri teased Lin. “You okay with her?” Lola as if threatened by the idea of having to leave her comfortable position with Lin, wrapped both hands in his shirt and held on tightly.

“Well then I’ll have to get back there and fix it up sometime soon to make it a pretty and safe place for you both.” Liana loved how she felt after redoing a garden. Something about seeing it come back to life after looking so forlorn always made her feel like she was doing something right with her life. “Good. I’m here if you ever need anyone to watch her though, you know?” She grinned. “It’s going well! I knew I would like it there but it’s been better than I expected.”
“Well you said you would put it on your jobs list. But I can imagine post-storm, you’ve been busy.” Henri replied cheerfully, knowing Liana would get to his garden when she could. “You and Nate keep offering. One day I’m going to land her on the two of you and take off for a weekend!” He teased laughingly. “I’m sure Cyrus likes it. He offered to take in Lola and me but we had the townhouse so didn’t need it. I thought about it though. It’s a nice place and it feels good to have like family around.”
“Health, actually.” Rory admitted, surprisingly herself by the fact she’d shared such a thing with a stranger. It was something she discussed on her blog rather frequently (especially as of late); so anyone who read her posts would learn why she’d taken a hiatus. But it was still something she struggled to speak about in her day to day life. “But, um, my favorite place?” She waited for the confirmation of the question before continuing. “Brazil.” She kept her response short and sweet as she once again shifted her attention down to the toddler who was still very much enjoying playing with her camera bag. She just wished she had something more child-friendly to offer the youngster to play with instead.
“Ah ... sorry.” Henri replied a little sheepishly, “I hope everything is all right? Or will be at least?” He continued sincerely. “Brazil is nice. Of course, it was in my days of heavy narcotic use sooooo I don’t remember a lot of it. Great people in Brazil. I had a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to travelling with her when she gets older. See everything in a whole new way and you know, sober.”
Lily’s usual bratty demeanour vanished as she gazed at the flowers for a moment. She wasn’t the type to be bought flowers so it was a surprise when she received them. A sweet smile curled onto her lips as she took the bouquet and gave the flowers a little sniff. “Leaving the crazy to me, huh?” She replied with a smirk as she took the gift bag, her usual flirty playfulness instantly back in full swing, replacing the brief moment of sweetness. “Actually I’m pretty much taking over a bar just down the road, Ivy was in charge of invitations so I hope she got round the whole city,” she said with a chuckle as she opened the gift bag to see what he had got her.
It was charming to see that moment of sweet softness as Lily took the bouquet. Another side to the pretty submissive. Of course, the flirt was back in full force two seconds later. Inside the gift bag was a box of particularly decadent chocolate and an item of lingerie that was as expensive as it was miniscule. “Just a little something to wear. For special company.” He laughed at the knowledge that she was taking over an entire bar. “Now that sounds more like it.”
Jae smiled as he watched the baby. “Well, I’m happy for the chance to meet her properly. Since I’ve heard so much about her,” he said. There was a little twinge in his heart at the sight of her, as he wondered what it would have been like if he and Adrien had gone the route of having children of their own. “Oh, I’m good. Busy as ever. And yourself?”
“Would you like to hold her for a minute?” Henri asked, “She’s insanely friendly. Can’t believe she’s almost one. A whole year. Amazes me every day.” He briefly thought with a pang how much her maman had missed and would continue to miss. “So you are training for the Olympics now, right? All qualified up?” Then he laughed, “I am so boring man, I just take care of her and occasionally try for other adulting things like dating or having a beer with friends. I think it might be some weird form of karma. I used to travel with little more than my wallet and passport and now I need to organize my entire life just to get one night out.”
