hey quick question uhhhh did Tolkien ever mention whether or not the animals of Elves live longer than the animals of Men or not?

Cause assuming they don't, and horses and dogs and cats live relatively the same across Middle Earth regardless of who is caring or them, then literally why the FUCK are we assuming Elves have had their first "Short-lifespan trauma" when they meet a human and then experience first hand that human's short lifespan when they've been having to deal with their beloved pets dying off every 10-30 years or so since forever???

alternatively if elven horses and dogs and etc do live longer than those of men, I can imagine certain breeding practices among the human civilizations to elongate the lifespan of their animals 🤔 like, what if certain breeds just live longer because they've been cross bred with the elven variety over time

idk does anyone have any sage knowledge to share with the class

hahaha imagine. imagine seeing your son at six and then the next time you see him he’s taller than you. and realising you’ll never know how tall he’d been at ten. imagine that. imagine reuniting with your son after six thousand years and the first thing you ask him is ‘how tall were you at ten’ because you had pictured him so clearly at that age yet knowing full well that you couldn’t possibly know. how tall he was at ten. who was taller. him or elros. how tall was elros at ten. boys grow so differently don’t they. especially at ten. imagine spending six thousand years wondering that. imagine seeing your mother and realising she looks younger than you. because she was so young when she… haha why don’t i just fucking die. anyway this is why i didn’t finish this.

Kaye Fierch and Lord Roiben from "Tithe" by Holly Black, the first book in the "Modern Faerie Tales" trilogy! I really enjoyed the book a lot, and it was nice to be back in faerie after a reading slump.
