I am so extremely jealous of them. They love each other so much, whether it’s platonic or romantic or a secret third thing isn’t important at all there’s just so much love between the two and everybody can see that. They have so much fun together, they do all kinds of amazing things with eachother, they are each other’s person. absolutely love this take and going from this, I think this is also the reason why their friendship, relationship, whatever you want to call it is so different from any other they have.

I think for Mack one thing was always that he kept moving and having to leave people behind and as close as he still is to some of these guys, it just is soo very different from everything he is building with Will. For all the reasons other anon said and also because he can stay. He gets to ‘keep’ Will.

As for Will, we know he is still close with many of his childhood and college friends (and I’m very much not trying to diminish them or pit them against Mack, let’s be clear on that), but there’s something Mack can give him that they simply can’t. His unwavering faith and belief. Will was always the one leading the way on the ice in his friendships, the best player, the center, the highest draft pick in BC history. But now he has Mack, Macklin Celebrini, 1oa, generational talent, the future of Canadian hockey and the Sharks… and he stands ten toes down for Will, doesn’t look up to him or down at him but sees him as an equal. So Will is okay with letting Mack lead (at least on the ice) because he knows he can trust him.

Those two… it’s like their souls connected when they met in San Jose, like they recognized something within each other that no one else can see. And as much as they might try, no one will ever understand them like they do one another. It’s beautiful honestly.

I like to think they were placed in each other’s paths at exactly the right time, almost as if the universe wanted to give them a gift for all their hard work and an apology letter for everything they’d endured. it's almost as if will has seen the ship edits of himself and mack on tiktok and fully knows the implication of "willmack" and "271" and how the fans would interpret him using that! like i truly don't think he would've done something so blatantly targeted if he/mack had any issues with being seen as a couple (or, frankly, would've even mentioned seeing the edits post-pens game at all!) he is so so intentional with how he wants to be seen by the public, will 100% knows what he's doing and he's doing it on purpose. whether thats as bait/a joke or (what im choosing to believe) because they're "private but not secret" is yet to be seen but like.........hes not doing it under the assumption of it being seen as platonic

Exactly!!! Will is one of the most calculated people when it comes to his image and the information he shares about himself. He’s gatekeepy as hell. He talks a ton of shit, but none of it is ever deeply personal. He is very active in crafting the public narrative of himself. He would not do this casually or accidentally. He’s not oblivious. He’s not offline. This was an intentional decision.

Macklin Celebrini projects his every emotion on his face. His raised or furrowed eyebrows. Head shakes of doom and despair. His lips, pulled up in an ecstatic smile during a celly or pushed into a pouty line in a moment of frustration. But it’s his eyes that really say everything. Eyes that seem to be constantly scanning the room and locking in on one person. Eyes that are always flicking over to check a reaction, to confirm they are on the same page, to reassure or be reassured. Eyes that often grow warm and gooey when they meet the ones they are searching for, but sometimes narrow and flick sideways teasingly, brattily. When Mack looks at Will, you can see everything.

From the very first day they met at dev camp, he looked at Will like he was the only person in the room. He looked at him then, and he keeps looking still. I don’t think he’s capable of stopping, even if he wanted to.
