I love the idea of Shane being adopted by a group of drunk girls.

Like he ended up in a club, maybe Rose dragged him or his team, post-relationship with Rose but before-all stars. And somehow he ends up with a group of 4 drunk girls, himself being a little tipsy, it was one!! drink they made him try (witch ended being like three actually) gossiping the fuck out.

Shane was now wondering if saying anything would reveal him. But they didn’t seem to recognize him and he was just getting through all of his feeling for Ilya and he was a little tipsy! He can have fun once in a while, even if the fun is talking shit about situationships with a bunch of drunk girls, he didn’t knew.

Cause after one of them, Beth, he thinks, explained to him what a situationship was, Shane was almost sure that’s what he and Rozanov were. Or at least used to, before Shane fucked it up. But he was going to fix it.

- The longest one for me is probably like half a year? - the girl, Anne, on Shane’s right side said.

- Girl. - Beth, basically threw herself on the girl. - Mine was like two months before I lost my shit and told him to get his shit together.

- I’m so happy I never had to experience this. - Marie, the blond girls on his left said with a laugh.

- Real. - said Rea, while sipping on her drink. Shane was still in awe of how sincere they were with each other, and well, him. And how he managed to remember their names right.

All of them looked right at him, waiting for his response and the only thought Shane had at the moment was: fuck this, why not?

- Um, I don’t know? Like six years. - and he never really thought before of how much time has passed, since him and Ilya have been involved.

And that’s how Shane spend next two hours explaining his and ‘Lily’s’ story and getting advices how to “woo his boy back”.

And after that night, Shane knew what he wanted.

SO they played on rival teams in the OHL, but they skated together during the summer, had the same agent and were somewhat friends.

thinking about shane and his parents again. there is something to be said about the lack of awareness there. your parents love you, sure, but do they know you? and the answer is no. because you hid yourself. because you weren't sure if they'd love that about you too. because you're too scared to try. because it's better to be loved as half a person than to be pitied for it all - or even worse, to not be understood even then.

In a world where the Vegas bathroom scene doesn't happen, it's fun to imagine a night where they get super fucking drunk instead (separately) and bump into each other at some point in the early hours of the morning.

And they're absolutely fucked up, and down bad for each other enough that by the time they stop in front of one of the chapels, Shane's like "Hey Rozanooov, wouldn't it be so fucking funny if we got married right now? Can you imagine how everyone would react?"

And Ilya's grinning like "They would be so mad and confused."

And for a moment it's hypothetical, but then Shane's dragging Ilya into the chapel. And if the Elvis impersonator recognises them or their names he doesn't say anything.

And what follows are very drunk but surprisingly sincere vows where Shane talks about how after the last time they were together he thought something was starting between them and it really fucking hurt that Ilya pushed him away in Russia (even though he understands that) then ghosted him for six months. And he's got those big sad almost tears and Ilya immediately puts a hand on his cheek and runs his thumb along his cheekbone.

And then Ilya's vows are about how sorry he is about not speaking to him for six months, he didn't mean to hurt him so badly, how terrified he was being in Russia with Shane, knowing they might both get into trouble if anyone found out about them, then all the stuff with his dad and brother, and also how scared he is that he doesn't feel like he can be casual about Shane anymore. With the basic crux of both sets of vows being that they've just admitted that they're actually falling for each other.

And then as they're signing the paperwork, Ilya has a moment of clarity where he grabs Shane's arm anxiously like "These marriages are not real, yes? We are not going to be actually married?"

And Shane pats his hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, it's only legal for US citiz... citer... cizeti... It's only legal for people from the US. We'll be fiiine."

And then when they wake up the next morning, cuddled and still fully clothed, to their phones going off non-stop and headlines about their drunk Vegas wedding (because the marriage certificate is public record), they realise it's more legally binding than Shane was led to believe.

After Ilya gets the call about his dad Cliff is the one who drives him home. He crashes at Ilya’s place and helps him pack and brings him to the airport. He’s also the one who picks him up when he gets back and he gives him the bestest big brother hug and pretends he doesn’t notice Ilya weeping.

During Shane's Rose Landry era Ilya went insane and did a ton of reckless shit and Cliff half jokingly asked if he needed to call Ilya's mom or something and Ilya just went "hard to call the dead" or something like that and that's how Cliff found out Irina was dead because i know in my heart soul and ass that ilya deflected every. single. godam. time.

What in the ever loving fuck is happening?

I became an NHL fan only a few months ago, this is my first off season as a fan WHY is it the craziest one probably ever???

Also I don’t know who these people are. Are we cooking? Are we cooked? I’m pulling up stats as a madman trying to figure it out.

It’s stressing me the fuck out. It’s giving me grey hairs.

I’ve been fixating on hockey more or less since the olympics and since then my team (sharks) didn’t make the playoffs, my other team (habs) went on and had one of the most stressful playoff runs in history, my country didn’t make it to the second round of the iihf tournament, celebrini was the captain of team canada and went home without a medal, they FUKUNG TRADED EKLUND then they fucking WON the draft and now they’re trading players like pokémon cards.

I’m fucking tired.

my controversial hollanov take is that the two of them retire at exactly the same time. none of that ilya retires first to take care of the kids bs no sir. they retire at the same time. because both of them are just not interested in playing without the other to push them and the thought of doing long distance for even a week makes them start shaking crying screaming staring into the distance.

i actually think that what's being missed in the 'why does everyone love heated rivalry' conversation is just that it's good

it's well made, well shot, well directed, the music is interesting, the costumes are both thoughtful and subtly period accurate, the sex scenes are intentional and, again, accurate to what hooking up when you're like 18 actually feels like...the actors are of course attractive but they look like real people. the characters are varied and well fleshed out, the acting is really, really strong

so many shows and films shoot and then slot in whatever music kind of fits or could be licenced in the budget after time, but you can tell that the scenes in hr were shot with that specific music in mind. and the same intentional approach runs through the whole thing

it feels...so nice to watch a show that cares about itself
