With acting a lot of the time it’s people scrutinizing your face. With writing, they’re scrutinizing your thoughts – so both feel particularly invasive, to be honest. That’s why I don’t like watching things I’ve been in, because I don’t want to be aware of myself as some sort of specimen. I like the artistry of acting, but again it comes back to that commodification of actors and the way people are discussed and scrutinised. And I should say that for women it’s probably a million times worse than it is for men.
