mlp in a nutshell

Northern Attitude

You sit on the bus. A mismatched group of people all going about their lives. A parent entertains their child by looking out the window with them. A teenager goes straight to the back seats, pulling a tie out of their pocket, dropping a folded piece of paper and a pen whilst doing so. An elderly person shuffles slowly into their seat, taking their time to sit down, mumbling a curse towards their knees. 

There’s a strange omnipotence to being sat on the bus like this, watching the people. You don’t know them. You might recognise a face depending on how often you take the bus, but you don’t know the name. You’ll never learn a name, an address, a sibling's name or a favourite colour. You remain strangers.

So here you sit, floating. All years of your life have culminated in daydreaming about the lives of strangers, not a clue about your own.

You think back to some forgotten song lyrics: “All alone, late in life. Scared to live, scared to die.”

That won’t be you. You won't let it.

So, you press the stop button. Wait for the bus to pull over to the side of the road. You take a deep breath, letting your lungs strain against their cage. 

And stepped off the bus.
