So I’m watching Good Omens and…
This was a hot take and i was so stoked. Its also one of the many many moments that Terry Pratchett’s writing shone through.

I started this blog the day after Tony Abbott was elected to mock him relentless for his brutish incompetence and poor policy. Tony Abbott, who campaigned against marriage equality despite having a lesbian sister. Tony Abbott who took it to the High Court to annul the marriages of a handful of same sex couples when the ACT decided as an individual territory to allow same sex marriages in 2013. Tony Abbott who campaigned for the No side in the plebiscite, citing imaginary concerns over religious liberties, spread fear and misinformation, and tried his best to stop progress. This has been his ongoing battle for years now. And an ongoing reverse battle for me and the nation. He tried to fight the tide of progress - a fight no man can win. His own electorate voted a majority Yes in the plebiscite. Now, 4 years later, we have come to this moment… where the brutish and uncaring asshole I have rallied against for so fucking long has finally lost his final battle in this campaign for marriage equality. We did it. We did it.
after the bill that was lead by Dean Smith was passed today I looked him up and read this article about him that talked about even though he was an openly gay senator for WA since 2012 (the first openly gay Liberal parliamentarian), he only started to support for marriage equality after the Lindt siege in 2014, and how the cafe manager who was killed in the siege left behind a male partner of 14 years. And that was the moment that made him realise "If they had wanted to get married, that opportunity was denied to them until the day of the siege and is now lost to them because Tori Johnson is no longer here. When that dawned on me I was overcome with a lot of sadness because that's something I could help correct."
And I guess even though I’m really happy, ecstatic really, I’m also feeling that tightness in my chest, reminded and humbled by all of our gay and lesbian elders who paved the way before us. Who have been fighting for these rights, safeties and protections for years and years before I was even born. The ones who didn’t make it to this day. How same-sex marriage being legalised in other countries was so often as a result of longterm couples trying to ensure that their relationships would be seen as valid after one of them passing away. The world is becoming more positive, and I have so much to look forward to as a young person, but I’m just focusing today on the elders who have come before me, and for whom the world was often times dark, and how strong they were, and how brave and determined they were, and just how much they did, and how much we owe them. But today is such an important day, honestly.

MARRIAGE EUQLAITY HAS PASSED IN THE AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT! CONGRAULTIONSTIO OMGOOMGOMGOMG!!!!
i’m so incredibly happy gay marriage is now a thing in australia, obviously so i can get married now but also because it brought about the filming of the greatest soundbite in the history of australian politics
MPs overwhelmingly vote to legalise same-sex marriage, setting off immediate celebrations.
Same-sex marriage will become legal in Australia after a historic bill was passed in the House of Representatives.
The lower house had been widely expected to pass the legislation, after the bill drew broad cross-party support.
The Senate voted decisively in favour of the legislation last week.
