my favorite thing about tma has always been the avatars who love the fears they serve, who show that love so vibrantly that, for just a moment, they sway you into feeling like you could learn to love that fear the way they do. when jane prentiss said "not loved as you would understand it, a deeper, more primal love, a need as much as a feeling" and when jude perry said "as the heat warped my bones and bubbled my flesh, all i heard was the loving exaltation of my god" and when mike crew said "falling had always held a special place in my heart, that wonderful border between terror and delight" and when manuela dominguez said "and at his words i felt afraid, and my heart soared in terror and elation as my eyes brimmed with tears, for i knew he spoke the truth" and when hezekiah wakely said "i had never felt such safety as within the crushing weight of earth all around me, the pressing embrace of the buried." do you get me

Something i'd been thinking since Sheeple Chase episode 2 is that Protocolverse Georgie definitely experiences fear, possibly more than the average person does, and episode 4 confirms that. She's a podcaster in this world just like she is in the Archiverse, but she's able to scare herself with stupid little conspiracies so she never goes hunting for the truly scary and dangerous shit. I think Archiverse Georgie desperately wanted to feel fear again when she started What The Ghost, and it didn't help. But it was easy, profitable, and even fun. Archiverse Georgie and Protocolverse Georgie wouldn't get along as well as some characters might get along with their counterparts

I always forget that Melanie was a full on YouTuber. Not to mention a YouTuber on like 2010-2015 the era of ldshadow lady, markiplier, dyed hair, kids unsupervised on the internet, big loud editing ect. Probably part of why Jon looked down on her. But kids GREW UP on Melanie king. There was 100% a lot of discussion around how it hurt to see her so messed up after watching her growing up. Kinda like populamaros. Imagine someone looking into the Magnus Institute a bit too hard and finding out you childhood YouTuber was directly connected to the apocalypse.

How many statements in TMA would fit into The Magnus Protocol? I was thinking about the episode Cost of Living the other day and that's an episode that, if not for the horror of existing in nonexistence, really does follow the same principles as TMP's incident reports. It's about trade-offs, after all. What harm are you willing to do in exchange for your own continued life? Can the good you do make up for the harm?

Tessa Winters’ statement about Sergey Ushanka is of the Spiral, sure. But it also might be an early Extinction statement. Sergey Ushanka’s story has themes of technology and death, which are both consistent motifs of the Extinction. Could it be connected to the fifteenth fear?

It doesn't evoke fear of the world ending, or human impermanence compared to machines. Not for Tessa Winters, at least. If someone else gave a statement about the same topic and was more afraid of the Extinction vibes than of the inability to prove what they were seeing on every screen, then it would be Extinction rather than Spiral. If the statement giver isn't afraid of or in control of a specific fear, it probably derives from something else.

Sergey Ushanka would definitely be a source of fear for the Extinction given the right audience, but Tessa was not that audience

actually peer reviewing these tags cause they are making me go insane. like he has zero shame about kissing boys in public, even when someone is actively harassing him for it. he talks about his (male) crush with his (female) ex to no judgement at all. him not liking sex apparently never comes up as an issue in his relationships.

but also "am i evil? do my personal needs hurt others? do i deserve to be alive? what if people find out what a monster i am? am i even human? is it okay to show my authentic self to people?" are EXTREMELY relatable questions for anyone who's dealt with internalized queerphobia. holy shit man.

I like how unspooky Steeple Chase is compared to What the Ghost. Protocol Georgie is capable of fear, so she's able to work herself up over ridiculous conspiracies rather than seeking out ghosts and spooky happenings without being able to feel that rush of fear for herself. Archives Georgie mentioned that she couldn't help but think her fear was stolen from her (or something to that effect), and it's really clear hearing more of her Protocol counterpart that Georgie was always someone who liked being scared sometimes, and she didn't have to reach all that far to feel it.

the vibe I got from the statement about og elias in archives is that he really did see the business end of the casually normalized emotional abuse of the british upper class family, but rather than help himself by disadhering from that value system and rejecting his father's ideas that he was a lazy ingrate who didn't appreciate his family enough he instead tried to ameliorate his lack of self-worth by proving that, no, he was worthy of the family name and he was better than other people and he did deserve more out of life. I get similar energy from the way gwen talks about her relationship to the rest of the bouchards, she doesn't like to talk about them and I almost get the feeling that she might be semi-estranged? like they're letting her "slum it" for a bit at this weird job until she comes to her senses and gives up on independence and rejoins the fold. so it makes sense that she was close with elias and he was maybe the only one in the family who took her seriously.

The funniest thing that happened in tma was those two episodes when half the entities ganged up against catholicism.

jon learning that you need an anchor to get out of the Buried and immediately interpreting that as "a literal severed body part" and not, you know, something with emotional significance or connected to a particular person. is so funny. but especially so when Melanie is also like "yeah that tracks"

Genuinely, the best part of them for me is how much they despise each other, and also simultaneously how on the same wavelength they are. It really feels like they could have been really good friends if the fears were not a force in their world.
