because the amulet of kings is canonically a part of pelinal, and pelinal himself is a spirit and the amulet is essentially just an overpowered soul gem, i headcanon that he’s bound to it by the ayleids after his death. anyways that brings me back to my man, haelia. once mannimarco initiates the soulburst, a small part of pelinals soul manages to break free from the amulet amidst the chaos and magic, and he finds himself now mortal & amnesiac outside of sancre tor. he wanders cyrodiil for a while- whispers of ghosts uttering how terrible he is to him in the language of ayleidoon. as he aimlessly heads eastwards, he’s eventually found by a number of pact soldiers who allow him to join their ranks.

i think a lot about pelinal honestly and i love the juxtaposition of his characterization so much, like he’s supposed to be this divine liberator and posed as a hero— but he’s horrifying. he’s brutal, lacks self control, and can care about mortals to the point of causing mass destruction since he doesn’t know how else to respond to emotions such as grief, distress & loss since i dont imagine semi-divine & divine beings are supposed to experience those feelings.

he also raises the question of “do the ends justify the means?” since ultimately, the liberation of the nedes & defeat of specifically cruel ayleid leaders is a good thing, but pelinal paving the way to the alessian orders existence, imperials devotion to war culture, and genocide of the ayleids and khajiit isn’t. i think pelinal himself even recognizes this and addresses it to an extent, at least in regards to how his actions will impact the future of cyrodiil since he warns morihaus to not have a child with alessia, because that would cement the creation of the imperial empire which is something i don’t think pelinal necessarily wants.

honestly i absolutely hate the amount of ableism that can be present in TES & TES oriented communities, from general language used, people attempting to argue that accommodations for certain disabilities isnt ‘lore friendly’ (ex/ implying sign language shouldn’t exist when it canonically does), to negatively addressing MKs addiction in conversation & derogatorily describing him as a d/lusional cr/ckhead.

just jfc. some people forget that there are mentally ill, disabled people & addicts within the community who do consume and enjoy the lore. this also isnt me saying we shouldn’t discuss the accountability of MK or certain characters in lore, but i don’t think the angle of “they’re bad because they’re mentally ill” is one that should be as regularly taken as i see it.
