Writing culture is getting the motivation you need at the most inconvenient of times.
“Advancing the plot” and “character development” are the same thing. Character development should drive the plot and vise versa. If character development is an entirely separate element to the plot, that makes for a disjointed story.
This. Character creates plot, plot shapes character. They are not parallel lines never to meet, they are a complex and balanced braid.
you wanna see one of my favorite bots of new york posts ever?
literally everything about this is perfect. i can't believe this is a bot post.
You know I think we sometimes forget how miraculous writing is. It's creation. You are literally creating something out of nothing. Editing? Quality? Man, you just created a story out of thin air, you know how difficult, majorly impossible that is for most people?
Be proud you can just sit down and create. It's magic

The hardest part is remembering my tagging system ಠ_ಠ
i just found out merriam webster has a time traveler feature that tells you some of the words that were “born” the same year as you. it’s pretty neat yall should do this
new tag yourself game: pick 3 words “born” in ur year that describe u. im geocaching, dark web and abandonware
It's been a loooong time since I had a writeblr and since I'm slowly getting back into writing, I thought I'd make new account (that hopefully last longer than a few months lmao) and get back into the community!

Liminal Fractures
genres: paranormal, mystery, thriller
themes/topes: found family, lgbt+ characters, finding out you're stronger than you think, finally reunited to be separated again, forgiveness and redemption, chased by monsters (both mental and literal), weird little town, big secretive organisation, liminal spaces, mutual pining, "I'll find my way back to you", powerful beings wanting to destroy the world, multiple connecting storylines
brief summary: Reality is cracking and Harper Ramirez, a researcher at The Spatial Anomaly Research Agency (aka S.A.R.A.), is determined to find the cause. Diving into their investigation head-first, they soon become caught up in agency secrets, lost within dangerous worlds, and discovering those who had disappeared through the cracks. But, as they get closer to the truth, more fractures begin to appear and panic sets in. Will Harper be able to put an end to the destruction before it's too late, or will reality as they know it cease to exist?
notes: my baby. my beloved. my current project. Possibly a series (as there are a bunch of characters + storylines I have planned that I'm not 100% sure how to connect together in the one plot).
Daughter of the Lynx
genres: fantasy, adventure, romance
themes/tropes: the chosen one, self-discovery, lgbt+ characters, revenge, learning to love again, family secrets, naive character learns to take risks, magic, fantasy creatures, slow-burn
brief summary: Elyse is living comfortably, helping her community through her family bakery, until her life is turned upside down by a knight bleeding out on her doorstep. From there, Elyse is thrown onto a journey of discovery, love and magic.
notes: backburner project. which means I probably won't be working on this for a long while yet since I've got Liminal Fractures brainrot.
Aaand that's all for now! I'm happy to be here and I look forward to sharing my work with y'all <3
if i see one more person describe their villain character as psychotic, insane, or delusional (implying this makes them Evil and Bad and that those are words for Evil and Bad people) i am going to break something
i promise you have other words. i promise you have better and more accurate words. you're writers, for fuck's sake, you don't have to choose words that further stigmatize psychosis & psychotic people. pick something else.
characters will literally get a headache or nosebleed out of nowhere and be like "huh. weird. well it's probably nothing." girl, look around you. you're in a story. it's relevant to the plot.
Guess who’s back…
no google docs you don't understand this is a sexy, necessary grammar mistake
Helpful and Preventative Stretches for Writers, Artists, and Gamers 💪🎨✍🎮
If you type, write, draw, game, or generally use your hands a lot (especially if you’re prone to RSI or Carpal Tunnel!) try these stretches as both a preventative measure, and on the spot relief. Take care of yourself and your body, friends!
Start with hands up, fingers stretched out. Stretch your thumb as far as you can over your palm. Hold and repeat 4 times.
Touch each finger to your thumb. Hold each for 30 seconds. Repeat on each hand 4 times.
Start with a fist. Open half way, hold for 2 seconds. Stretch fingers out, hold for 2 seconds. Repeat 4 times.
Start with one arm out, palm up. Pull your fingers back with your other hand. Hold for 10 seconds. Do the same with your other hand. Repeat 4 times
Start with arms up, palms out. Bend wrists down until you feel the stretch, but keep your fingers loose. Hold 10 seconds. Bend wrist upwards, until you feel it in your wrist and arm. Hold 10 seconds. Repeat 4 times.
Which OC would be defeated by the child lock on a bottle of multivitamin gummies?
to lovely humans who were excluded from invitations, left behind when they tied their shoes, forced to walk in the grass when the sidewalk was full, spoken over when you tried to contribute, whispered about or laughed at, given the side eye when you tried to fit in... you are so worthy of love and I’m sorry people have convinced you otherwise. I promise that your people are out there - people who will see the side of you others ignore, people who share weird inside jokes with you, give you affectionate nicknames and go to museums or roadtrips with you and fulfil whatever idea of friendship you’ve always fantasized about. even if you feel like an empty shell of your former self because you’ve hidden yourself away due to shame, this exterior will melt when you accept yourself or let people in and you’ll realize there was nothing wrong with you all along. you have interesting things to say, you deserve new chances and beginnings, your heart is probably made of gold because you know what it’s like to be left out in the cold, and you have so much to give. you are so worthy and someone’s idea of a friend too, and I hope you receive lots of hugs in the future from yourself and others because you’re so lovable.
do you ever just write a single, beautiful line and feel really proud of yourself. then you look five paragraphs down, and there’s a sentence like, “I walked and my legs were walking” and wonder what in the goddamn heck happened
any genre of fiction that does not involve magic can be improved by adding magic trust me it’s basic science
a work of fiction: noir detective thriller
me: okay

me: OOOOOOOOH YEAHHHHHHHH BABEY
