This is supposed to be a future/“what if” scenario in her future, where PK has come back somehow and is genuinely trying to make amends with his hoard of Void children. Loam would not react well to this, and she’d have some choice words for him

I was struggling with HK stuff for a while there and needed a break, and have been wrestling with a really bad art block in general for the last few of months. On top of just having the depression and anxiety being even worse than normal.

It was almost dinner time, and while little Oni wasn’t hungry quite yet, he was definitely bored. He knew his brother was sad and tired a lot of the time, but the older dragonfly usually did his best to make time for the grub. But lately Oni’s brother had started to space out for periods of time, getting so lost in his thoughts while aimlessly plucking at the strings of his guitar that he seemed to disconnect from the world for stretches of time. Even to the point where he almost seemed to briefly forget Oni himself, until the grub either bumped his sibling hard with his protective bubble or chewed on the older dragonfly’s fingers until he took notice of Oni again.

But today Oni was feeling particularly restless and rebellious, so the grub had managed to push his way out of a half open window to float down the quiet streets of Dirtmouth. He wasn’t going to go too far, he told himself, and he’d be back before his brother even realized he was gone. Which could be a while, considering how the other dragonfly had been acting lately.

A sudden peal of laughter caught Oni’s attention, drawing the floating grub’s gaze to a house a bit of a ways down the street. Unlike many of the houses in Dirtmouth, the lights were on in this one, and the smell of something tasty wafted out of an open widow. As he drew closer, the young dragonfly could hear a few other bugs inside and when he peeked his head over the windowsill he saw a tall spider bustling about the kitchen while two much smaller bugs helped her with whatever was being cooked. Well more like the bigger child in the green cloak was doing their best to keep their tiny sibling out of trouble while their mama worked. The spider had to be their mama right? The whole scene reminded Oni of happier, if hazier, times in his memory, before his own family had started to fall apart.

Oni hadn’t even meant to let out the sad, keening little noise that escaped him at that thought.

Psyche cleaned up from dinner. It didn't take that long; giving him lots of time to get comfortable.

She peeked into the room and smiled at the heap of grubs on the floor. Then she tilted towards Orri.

"I'll be on the couch if you need anything." She whispered softly. Psyche then pointed the mass of snoring children, "Chirin will be up first looking for food. They may wake you up. They may not. If they do, just put them on the floor and tell them to find me. I'll be up."

Orri had sat cautiously on the edge of the nest by the time Psyche came in, clearly trying to not disturb the children. Though at the mention of the spider spending the night on the couch, he looked up at her in surprise.

“Are you sure?” He asked quietly. “I don’t want to force you out of your own bed…” he went on, sounding a bit guilty at the thought. “I can take the couch. Wouldn’t be the worst place I’ve had to sleep.”

Psyche shook her head, "It looks like you haven't gotten a good night's sleep in ages. And-" She pointed a claw at him, "you're a guest. Trust me. I have slept in way worst and uncomfortable positions. Travelling will do that."

Psyche then waved him off. She shooed him towards her bed.

"Rest. Sleep. Whatever. Just stay in the bed."

Orri hummed and nodded in agreement; he knew all too well the less than desirable places traveling forced one to sleep in. “Alright…” he finally agreed, a weary but genuine smile managing to work its way onto his face. “Thank you Psyche. For everything…”

Psyche kept her smile. She quietly closed the gap between them and planted a light kiss; inbetween his horns.

"You're welcome, Orri..." She whispered.

Orri stiffened briefly in surprise at that fond, almost parental little kiss, but didn’t shy away from the contact. He felt an embarrassed flush rise to his cheeks for a moment, but he quickly relaxed with a soft sigh. At least for now, just for this night, it felt like he didn’t have the weight of the world on his shoulders.

"Get some sleep..." Psyche repeated, "I'll see you in the morning."

The spider pulled away. Slipping back into the hallway. Letting Orri have some much-needed and well deserved sleep.

Orri’s only response was a soft hum and nod of acknowledgement. As Psyche left the room he carefully lowered himself onto the bed so as to not disturb the children, but he still could inflame help letting out a heavy sigh as he laid down. His eyes fell shut almost as soon as he settled into the nest, and he was out like a light shortly afterwards.

His last thought before he slipped into unconsciousness was him hoping that he wouldn’t dream. Just for one night.
