Forgot Who We Can Trust || Rick & Sabrina

When she started yelling, he was ready to throw her out. Honest to God. The old Rick would’ve cut her off and ripped her to pieces with his temper.
This one, though glowering, let her have her say - and when she shoved the whisper stone toward him, he blinked.
He had one of those. He’d been dizzy one night with thoughts of her, still lightly coated in sweat and breathing too hard in his bed, and he’d whispered slightly slurred, dreamy sentences against the rock’s surface before he’d fallen asleep, the pebble still in his hand.
Still nursing his sore heart, he brought hers to his ear. And, as he listened, tears began to pour down his cheeks.
There weren’t words for him to say back. After all the heartbreak he’d been through these past few weeks, he knew that all he should say was for her to leave - but he couldn’t.
Not if she was trying.
He opened his mouth, trying to say her name, but when only a gurgling sob came out he held up a hand - his index finger, trying to silently tell her to wait - and stumbled to his bedroom, digging through his drawers until he found his whisper stone. He brought it back to her in less than a minute, crying openly, and held it out to her, where she’d begin to hear his lilting words that trickled off as he’d fallen asleep.
“You know, Sabrina, I think I’ve loved you since the first second I saw you. I love you in a different way every day you let me learn more about you. And if so I kinda wonder if maybe I can love you in twenty-seven thousand new ways, huh? I wanna find out. I hope you let me…”
Bracing herself for impact, she closed her eyes and began to count down the seconds until Rick finally decides to kick her out, pointing out every single truth she refuses to hear. Three, two, one... And silence. Nothing but a gurgled sob from the man she expected to yell back... She couldn’t believe the amount of tears that continuously poured out of his eyes, feeling the guilt slowly start to consume her.
“Ri--” Before she could even try to make things right, his pause had her blinking curiously. Somewhere between the blinks, he had disappeared into his room, she could hear the sounds of drawers being pulled and slammed back to place.
The sound of his feet scattering quickly out of his room caught her gaze, following his every movement until he came back... ‘He came back.’ Seeing him in tears like this really fucking hurts. It’s not what she wanted... She could only imagine what the message consist of. Not the time to be afraid. With shaking hands, Sabrina held the pebble close to her ear...
Her eyes widen the moment his voice echoed through her mind. Every word buried themselves into her brain, stealing every single breath she tried to take. How could I be so stupid... To ruin a soul as beautiful as his... I’m truly a monster. Carrying this consequence on her shoulders became too heavy, dropping her entire weight on her knees as she held onto hope. “I’m so sorry... I’m so so sorry--” Her voice continued to crack after every pathetic sob, hanging her head low and shutting her eyes to escape.
