It was late when she had come home, the crescent moon cradle hung low in the sky, shrouded in a thicket of gray clouds, illuminated by a flurry of wayward stars speckled wherever they so pleased. The horses began to slow their trot, and the carriage slowed to a stop. She was home, after nearly 7 days of travel, but she was home nonetheless. It took everything in her to gently step out of her carriage, when every fiber in her being was screaming at her to hurry. There was only one person she wanted to see more than anyone, and that was her guard. Her Cody.
Pushing past her crowd of servants, she hastily made her way down the east wing corridor, the smile on her face growing with each step. It had been almost 2 whole years since she had last seen him. She wondered, what had he done in her absence? Had he missed her? Did he ever think of her? Did he ever- she couldn't help the flush that spread down to her chest at the thought. Reaching his chambers, she bothered not with knocking, instead pushing open the door with all her might, her nerves on fire with anticipation. Surely he would be waiting for her. Though he was nowhere to be found. Scoffing, she made her way towards his bed, letting herself fall onto the plush mattress, her smile now souring to a frown. Surely he knew that she would be returning, did he not?
Perhaps he was off with some maid, or he had found some noble woman he much preferred, a woman without duty, without responsibility, a woman who could belong only to him, and not to a whole kingdom. How could she even begin to blame him if he did? Facing the ceiling, soul laid bare on his mattress, she covered her eyes, begging herself not to weep. And yet still, freely her tears flowed. Furiously, she wiped them away. She was to be queen; there was no need for her to weep over some lowly guard, not when she would no doubt be marrying some foreign king. But oh, how she ached at just the thought.
"Your Highness, what a surprise." Y/n looked up as she swiped at the tears welling in her eyes; her face was no doubt blooming in scarlet now. Sniffling, she sat up indignantly, smoothing out the wrinkles in her dress.
"Why were you not waiting for me?" She questioned quietly, refusing to meet his gaze as he towered over her. He chuckled, a warm and soothing sound that reverberated throughout the room; a sound she had grown most fond of. Though at this moment it served to only irritate her. How dare he find her amusing? She was to be his queen, not his court jester.
"I do not find any of this amusing, not in the slightest. I leave for two years and find your chambers empty upon my return. You said you would wait for me; was my arrival not announced beforehand?" She snipped, glaring at him for only a moment before it faltered. Dressed in fine black silks and swathes of velvet, he stood before her, ruffled white shirt adorned with a handsome purple cravat, his face was slightly flushed, evidence of a drunken night out. Along his jawline, she could make out small purple bruises, pigment clinging to flesh in a way she most certainly did not appreciate.
"I see you took on a lover." There was almost a venomous inflection in her tone. Cody scoffed, rolling his eyes. She watched as he took a step towards her, his frame imposing.
"And you have not?" his voice was a soft growl now as his calloused fingers found purchase on her chin, sharply tipping her head up so he could run a finger over the marks that were scattered on her once untainted skin. Y/n looked up at him defiantly, of course she had. She had that right, she was, after all, not his to lay claim.
"I belong to no one," She retorted, a smug smile on her lips, a subtle and silent challenge. Cody cocked his head to the side, dropping her chin and stepping away from her, his fingers working on his cuffs as he began to get undressed.
"And I do?" Cody asked, now unbuttoning his shirt, his steely gaze unwavering as he drank her in.
"Of course," Y/n said innocently, practically batting her eyelashes at him. Cody couldn't help the laugh that burst from his chest as he shrugged off the white ruffled shirt, letting the garment pool around him in a bed of silk.
"And who, may I ask, is it that I belong to?" His back was to her now as he busied himself drawing up a steaming bath, scented in his trademark lavender and mint, invigorating, slightly searing, and so very calming. Walking up towards him, she lightly dragged her fingers across the multiple scars on his back, relishing in the goosebumps that marred his flesh at her touch.
"What a ridiculous question," She murmured, leaning forward to press a kiss against a particularly nasty scar. She felt his body shiver against her lips, almost tensing before relaxing and turning to face her. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he pulled her flush against his body, dipping his head to press a kiss against her neck, his breath hot against the already blushing skin.
"You forget, my love, within these four walls, you belong to me." Cody pulled away at that moment, eyes foggy with a heady need. His hands came up her back, fiddling with the clasps and zippers of her complex dress before beginning to slowly slip the dress off. As the dress reached her upper arms, she abruptly pulled away from his touch.
"You did not wait for me," she repeated, her voice thick with emotion as she clutched at the arms of her dress, holding the garment up on her body, unwilling to let him in. Cody's brow furrowed in confusion, then into a sort of anger as he ran a hand through his platinum hair.
"Two years. Two years, Y/n! I held out as long as I could, and then came all the talks of your promenades and dances with that boy! You're to be married off in one year, and you ask me to wait?" His voice was smooth, calm, and yet demanding as he rubbed at his temples.
"Of course! I am to be married off to a man whom I know nothing of; the only comfort and familiarity I own in this wretched world is you! And what is it you do in my absence? I know, Cody, the girls wrote to me of your 'promenades' as well! Of the late nights spent in random beds, of the heartbroken maids that wander the castle grounds, Cody, I know! So excuse me if, in my sorrow, I found solace in the arms of the man I am to marry!" She spat, arms still clinging to her armor of silken lace.
They stood there for a moment, eyes locked in a somber battle of indignation, neither one willing to step down. She was his Princess, his life sworn to her, his very being tied to her existence, and yet, he was her guard. He was her rock, her stability; he had laid his life on the line more than once for her, and to him she was indebted, in a way, she was his just as much as he was hers.
"The fates are most unkind, are they not, my love?" Cody questioned, breaking his glare and instead choosing to take a step towards her, his hands settling on her shoulders as he loomed over her frame. Y/n let her head rest against his chest, finding comfort in his deep breaths. He had a way of calming her, even in her most frantic moments.
"So come with me," She whispered against his chest, blinking back the tears that threatened to spill.
"If I have to leave, then please say you'll leave with me," She pleaded, pulling away to stare up at him with weepy, stained-glass eyes. Cody stared down at her in almost disbelief. What life would that be for him?
"And watch another man live the life I have so dreamed of with the woman I adore?" It was his turn to pull away now, his features now cold and rigid as he crossed his arms over his chest, almost as if to guard his heart from her selfish implications.
"And be with me! You knew what my position would lead me to! You were more than aware of the duties I would need to fulfil and yet, still, you stood by me! This is the only way, Cody! Follow me, please," she pleaded, her voice threatening to break.
"And to Oblivion, you know I would follow you! But-" Cody groaned, dragging his hands down his face.
"But what?" Her voice was rising now, face burning, pulse racing. Would he truly deny her? Deny his princess?
"You cannot ask this of me, Princess, you must not." His voice was but a whisper now, jaw clenched rigid as he turned away from her.
"I cannot bear to be apart, Cody. Please. Do not leave me, not with him, not in some place where I know only my name, please!" she broke this time, sobs racking her chest as she covered her face with her hands, her dress slipping down slightly from her shoulders. At this point, Cody was leaning over the steaming tub, knuckles white as he gripped the rim, hoping to find some clarity in all of the minty vapor. He tried to convince himself that the tears that threatened to spill were from the steam, rather than her cries, but he could not.
"I will not. I cannot." He said through gritted teeth, desperately blinking away the searing tears that welled in his eyes, ready to drop at a moment's notice. Her cries seemed to crescendo, reverberating around his room in a cacophony of dissonance. Desperate to ease her qualms, Cody knelt at her feet, taking her hands from her face and holding them tenderly in his rough and calloused palms.
"So come with me. Let us leave this place, let us forge ahead on our own, with no duties, no responsibilities, just one another." Cody suggested, pressing gentle kisses to her knuckles. Y/n took a stuttering breath, gazing down into his tranquil pools of blue.
"Oh, Cody," She sniffled, cupping his face in her hands, watching with despair as he almost sank into her touch. How cold and cruel the world could be.
"Cody... You know I cannot. They need me," She murmured, her thumb gently wiping away a stray tear as it trekked down the expanse of his cheek.
"I need you," he whispered, his hands coming up to clutch hers. She watched as he rose from the ground, his hands still clutching hers as though a lifeline had sprung from them. He could not let go. Not now.
"We cannot continue like this- I cannot continue to live like this," Cody sighed, closing his eyes as he gripped onto her wrists, her hands still cupping his face.
"So what are you saying?" Her voice seemed to tremble in fear, her hands beginning to shake ever so slightly.
"I don't know what I'm saying," He confessed, bleak laughter bubbling in his chest as he let her go, roughly dragging his hands down his face.
"Cody, I am sorry, but you know-"
"I know! I know where your loyalties lie, and that is to your duty, but I thought-" he looked away for a moment to compose himself, eyes focused on the passing clouds over the moon through the window. Y/n frowned, taking a step towards him, and watching in dismay as he stepped back, refusing to meet her eyes.
"You do," She answered his unfinished question, eyes desperately searching his face, willing him to just look at her.
"Cody, you mean more to me than anything on this earth, but my duty comes before all else, just as yours." She explained. He sucked in a sharp breath, his oath a striking blow to the chest.
"I see," he murmured, his chest tightening with an oncoming wave of panic.
"I see, well then, good night, Your Highness," Cody's tone was cold now, his once calming blue gaze, now a piercing stone in her chest. Sniffling, Y/n nodded, bidding her guard good night as she left the room. That night, she found herself tossing and turning, the scent of his room still clinging to her. They had both made a choice, both stood firm in that moment, but the possibility of escape, of freedom from all her royal duties, the tantalizing promise of a life with her Cody, a life where all that mattered, all that existed was them, it was all she could dream of.
She suddenly found herself thinking of that life nonstop. Every waking moment, every lesson, every dinner, every outing, every ball, she found her gaze lingering on her ever-present guard. What could life be like, just the two of them? Hidden away in a cottage in the countryside? That night, she retired early to her quarters, Cody following behind her. As she opened her door, he stationed himself outside, refusing to enter as he had done so many times before.
"You won't be joining me?" She questioned. Cody glanced her way before focusing on the hallway before him.
"No, Your Highness, I will not." He answered simply, his tone indifferent. Y/n hummed, nodding as she softly closed the door behind her. The moment the door clicked, she busied herself with drawing up a steaming bath, ignoring the tears that fell freely, leaving a trail along the floor in their wake. Should she have accepted his proposal? Nonsense, she had a role to fulfil, just as he. Right?
It was late when they came back home from dinner. The pale moonlight streamed in through the fluttering curtains, layering the room in an almost hazy glow. Cody had gone straight to the kitchen as soon as they got home, mentioning something or another about a glass of wine for the evening, while Y/n made her way to their bedroom. She could feel her heart practically leaping out of its confines, breath heavy, and hands shaking. Her shirt felt too tight, her stockings prickly against her skin. With a shaky breath, she willed herself to look up, to meet her own gaze in the mirror, her eyes suddenly being caught in mesmerizing puddles of sky blue. Cody had snuck up behind her at some point. His eyes held a soft look, a warm smile on his lips as he gently placed his hands on her hips before resting his chin atop her head. He looked at her fondly, a look reserved only for her. She never understood it, couldn't comprehend why, of all women, she was the object of all his desires, but she was. Cody made sure to tell her every morning that he was obsessed with her, all of her. It was a foreign concept for her, a plus-size woman with no prior romantic experiences under her belt. Up until Cody, she hadn't even had her first kiss, much less an actual boyfriend.
"I love when you wear that shirt with this skirt," Cody murmured, his fingers gripping into the soft flesh of her hip before letting go to trace the embroidered stars on her stockings. Her breath hitched as his fingers moved further up her thigh, slowly crawling. Risking a quick peek, she could see the Cheshire-like grin spreading across his face. He loved to rile her up.
"Really shows off your figure," he whispered, his lips ghosting over her neck, his breath warm, almost heavy as he hovered over her. His fingers were almost teasing in their proximity. Her breathing was heavier now, a steady heat creeping up her neck and into her face. Cody smirked, pressing his cool lips against the flushed skin of her neck, offering a quick nip before soothing it over with his tongue. She felt herself get stiff, the combination of his mouth on her neck and his fingers quickly lifting her skirt, slowly becoming too much too fast.
The tight knot in her throat threatened to choke her, the tears in her eyes welling, shame brewing deep in the pit of her stomach as she quickly turned to face Cody, placing her hands on his chest. She could feel how badly her hands trembled, could feel her chest growing tighter with each quick and pained breath. Cody was patient, and there was nothing more that she wanted than to bare herself to him, to expose herself fully, be vulnerable with him, and yet, the second a hint of intimacy began to seep into the air, she found herself scurrying away, terrified of him being disgusted by her the second her clothes came off.
"I-I'm sorry—" she choked out, her breath relentlessly fast. Her eyes were trained on the floor, focusing on the loafers he had donned for the night. He took a deep breath, placing his hands atop hers, calloused hands enveloping soft and delicate fingers. She still could not meet his gaze, but with each deep breath Cody took, her hands rising and falling with his chest, she found herself doing the same.
"It's okay," he murmured, pulling her into his chest, his hand cradling the back of her head as he placed a soft kiss atop her head. Her body shook as she struggled to control the sobs that threatened to tear from her throat, and the tears that seemed to rain upon her cheeks felt hot, almost searing. They had been together for close to a year now, and somewhere along the way, she had even moved in. And yet still, the thought of sex made her nauseous. How could she, of all people, even fathom being enough for someone like him? Surely he would run the second he saw what truly hid behind her armor of lace and silk.
"You know we don't have to go through with this. Tonight is supposed to be for you. We'll take everything at your pace, and if we need to stop at any point, we can," Cody murmured into her hair, pulling back to look at her, his finger tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear before cupping the side of her face. She let herself sink into his hand, holding it with one of her own.
"I'm okay. I want this, I promise I do. Just nervous is all," she whispered, finally prying herself off of his hand. Cody smiled down at her, taking a moment to adjust her shrug cardigan gingerly. It was a gift from him, a creamy soft, cropped shrug with sleeves akin to wings. It was dyed a light blue color, one strikingly similar in hue to Cody's eyes, and the very reason he had picked it out for her. A subtle way to lay claim to what belonged to him. She loved wearing it for him; it seemed to fill him with pride, but it also soothed her qualms and eased her insecurities; she was his, and that calmed her. With a cheeky grin, Cody slipped off his shoes, signaling for her to do the same before taking hold of her hand and leading her to their bathroom. At some point, Cody had connected to the Bluetooth speaker in their bathroom, and a soft, almost jazzy, steady playlist full of whimsical strings and horns began to seep into the air. Y/n couldn't help but giggle at his choice of music for the night.
"What? I thought R&B would be too sensual, and I want tonight to be pleasant if you will, not just sexy," Cody explained, wrapping his arms around her waist, bringing her close to him as they began to gently sway to the lulling lilt of passionate strings. This time, she laughed, the sweet sound filling the air and mending beautifully with the harp and horns in the background. Cody couldn't help but take a moment to watch her, a tender look in his eyes, one of warmth and unbridled yearning. How he loved her so.
Gazing into one another's souls, Y/n found the courage to lean forward, pressing her lips against Cody's in a delicate kiss, one hand on his shoulder, the other clutched in his hand, his arm wrapped around her waist. They swayed in time, focused solely on one another. His lips twitched into a grin against hers, his tongue playfully poking into the sweet cavern of her mouth, tongues lazily and almost playfully intertwining. She pulled away with a quick nip to his bottom lip, a proud smile on her face at the hint of shock on his features.
Their bathroom was not small, not by any means, a spacious, lovely tiled space with soft mats. The bathtub was grand and deep, filled to its brim with bubbles, adorned with floating rose petals. The bathroom was dimly lit by scented candles dotted around the space, the soft aroma of fresh linens and warm cotton wafting about. Nothing overly sweet, nothing overly pungent. Pulling away, albeit a bit reluctantly, Cody reached for the blue shrug, pulling it down her shoulders before placing it in some corner. Y/n let herself relax as he worked on taking off her earrings and necklace, his hands soon making their way to her hair, where he focused on getting rid of bobby pins and hair ties. He made sure to work on the little things first, being sure to pepper in the occasional kiss. He then proceeded to shrug off his suit jacket, placing the expensive garment atop her cardigan on the floor.
"Is this okay?" he asked, running his hands down her arms before taking hold of her hands. Y/n gave his hands a small squeeze, nodding her head and offering a nervous smile. Cody brought her hands up to his lips, pressing a kiss to the tops of her hands before gently guiding them to his chest. She watched as he guided her fingers towards his top button, helping her to undo it. Without another second of hesitation, she began to undo the other buttons before finally taking off the button-down shirt. She brought her hands up to his chest, her fingers trailing gingerly over the Dream tattoo on his chest before trailing up to his neck tattoo. Leaning forward, she pressed her lips against his neck tattoo first, pressing a kiss to the inked skin before trailing kisses down to his chest tattoo. There, right on his chest, atop his tattoo, she pressed a swift nip to the skin before soothing it over with a swift swipe of her tongue. As she pulled away, there was a blooming red mark against the skin. Cody seemed to be pleased with it, running a finger over it appreciatively.
It was her turn now, and she absolutely feared it. Cody's hands reached for the hem of her shirt, taking the material between his fingers. He held it in his hands for a moment, making sure to look at Y/n as he slowly began to lift it. She could feel the way her chest began to knot itself into tangles, each breath becoming trapped in the ever-growing web. The tip of her nose felt cold, almost numb and tingling, her hands prickly like static. But she had faith in Cody; she trusted him more than any other man. For every insult she had endured from a man who had only wanted her in private, there was an over-the-top compliment from Cody to help soothe her pains. She was safe, she was loved, and she was ready; she had to be.
Time seemed to come to a standstill as the shirt was finally pulled over her head and thrown off somewhere into the growing pile of clothes in the corner. Tears were brimming in her eyes as she turned away from Cody, looking up at the ceiling to avoid his gaze of what she was certain to be disgust. What else could it be? It was the only look she had been used to receiving from prospective boyfriends of the past; surely it would be this time, too. But it wasn't. Cody's fingers were delicate against her skin as he took hold of her chin, turning her to look at him.
"You're stunning," he breathed, baby blues taking a moment to commit the current image of her to memory. Y/n huffed a soft laugh, doing her best to suppress the sob that threatened to break free. She shook her head, sniffling as she did her best to fight back tears. There was a wave of relief that washed over her like an icy shock. There was still so much more to do, but these first few steps had served as the reminder she had so desperately needed that she would, in fact, be enough, and that she was, obviously, beautiful. Especially to him.
"Thank you," she choked out, her hands doing their best to wipe away the tears that fell one after the other. Cody leaned forward, pressing his lips to hers, his hand settling on her waist, pulling her close. She deepened the kiss, sneaking her tongue into his mouth, almost squeaking when his hand trailed back behind her to give her ass a quick squeeze. He grinned against her lips, no doubt cheeky and cheshire-like.
"Let's get this off you, hmm?" Cody hummed, hooking his thumbs into her waistband before pulling down her skirt, revealing not just the delicate, embroidered thigh-high stockings she had donned for the night, but also her matching pink set of lingerie. There she stood before him, laid almost bare, protected by just a delicate layer of pink lace and ribbon, all his to undress. Y/n couldn't help but blush as she looked back up at Cody, noticing the way his desire struggled against his slacks.
"So pretty in pink for me," Cody mumbled, taking one of her hands in his own to give her a slow twirl, savoring the image before him. Y/n could do little to suppress the smile that slowly began to creep over her lips. For the first time in her life, she felt beautiful, truly beautiful. Here she was, in little to nothing, and Cody was admiring her. As her twirl came to an end, Cody once again pulled her close, his hands resting atop the swell of her ass, almost fighting the urge to give a quick squeeze. Instead, he took the opportunity to slowly slip them down her thighs, caressing the supple flesh after he pulled them off, before making his way up her back to unhook her bra. Y/n in turn undid his belt, fingers working to unbutton his slacks and slip those off too.
"Easy," Cody chuckled as she pulled down his boxers, getting on her knees and ready to take him in her mouth. But Cody reached for her shoulders, pulling her back up. She looked at him in confusion, her eyes beginning to cloud over with the same insecurity and fear he had seen one too many times. Had she done something wrong? Quickly, Cody shook his head.
"As much as I appreciate you thinking about me, tonight is all about you. I can wait," Cody explained as he took hold of her hand, leading her to their bathtub. Y/n had to take a breath to ground herself for a moment before following him in. They settled in the bathtub, Cody's back up against the wall while she sat between his legs, her back resting against his chest. She could feel his length, stiff and at attention against her, and something deep in her core ached pleasantly, almost pulsing. Cody let one hand rest against her stomach, his other hand atop her thigh as his lips began to work at her shoulder, leaving a trail of deep bruises all across until he reached her neck. She couldn't help the breathy moan that broke past her lips as he reached the spot just behind her ear that drove her mad. As he worked on her neck, the hand on her stomach began to work its way up to her breast, his fingers teasing her nipples, perking the bud as he rolled it between his thumb and finger. Her back arched ever so slightly at the contact, and that pulsating heat seemed to throb once more.
"Still doing alright?" he asked as he pulled away from her neck, his lips just barely brushing against her ear. Y/n nodded, her head resting against his shoulder, small puffs of air leaving her lips as his fingers crept towards her core, teasingly running up and down her slit, circling her clit at times, her hips bucking at the touch. She was sensitive, incredibly so, and each touch of his calloused finger sent sparks flying to her every nerve. She could feel her arousal climbing, almost searingly so, the heat between her thighs growing unbearable.
Cody took his time, playing with her nipples, biting at her neck, slowly dipping two fingers in and out of her velvet warmth. She almost hissed at the stretch of his thick fingers, her head turning to the side. She was tight against his fingers, maddeningly so, and all Cody could think about was helping her reach her climax, all desperate with want and being the one to satisfy her. He worked her for a moment, his fingers pumping a smooth and steady pace, curling in just the right spots, slowly easing her to her peak. Her lower belly tensed, he could feel her thighs beginning to quiver, her moans were slowly filling the room, soft whines of pure need echoing throughout the restroom. Just as she was ready for desire to tip over its already brimming glass, Cody pulled his fingers away, rubbing soothing circles into her thigh.
"But—" she protested, turning her head back to look at him with pathetically sad eyes, it almost made him fold.
"Let's wash up, yeah? And we can continue this in the bedroom. I want to see your face," Cody murmured in her ear before kissing her cheek. Y/n sighed, tilting her head back dramatically. Cody laughed, taking the time to lather up her shampoo in his hands before beginning to scrub at her scalp, massaging away any stress that might have built up in the past few days.
"I already told you, we're going to have a pleasant night," Cody explained as he rubbed down her shoulders, doing his best to undo the knots in her muscles. Y/n hummed in response, her eyes closing as he washed away the soapy suds from her hair.
"Who's going to wash your hair?" she asked quietly as she gathered bubbles in her hands, watching them slowly pop or fall from her hands.
"I can do that later, let's get you dried off, yeah?" Standing them both up, Cody reached for a towel, wrapping it around her body as they both stepped out. After wrapping his own towel around his hips, he grabbed a towel wrap, using it to dry off her hair, tenderly gathering the damp locks before beginning to dry them off. She stood in front of him, basking in the sweet intimacy of the moment as he wrapped up her hair. Y/n turned around, reaching for another towel to dry his hair as well. Cody chuckled, a closed-eyed grin on his face as she ruffled his hair with the towel.
"Come," Cody took her hand in his, leading her out of the restroom and into their bedroom. The bed was made with freshly washed covers, all pillowy soft with down duvets and fluffed pillows; it was almost picturesque. Pressing two fingers against her chest, Cody lay her down, settling between her thighs, spreading her legs open, revealing her swollen arousal. Almost instinctually, she attempted to press her thighs closed, but Cody persisted, keeping them open. He looked up at her from between her thighs, silently asking for her permission. She nodded, a shuddery breath leaving her lips as Cody massaged soothing circles into her inner thigh.
Hooking her legs over his shoulders, Cody licked a teasing stripe up her slit, reveling in the way her body almost quivered at the contact. Slowly, his tongue circled her clit, flicking it a few times before taking it into his mouth, lightly sucking at the swollen bud. A loud gasp emerged from her lips, her hips bucking up with a jolt, and Cody couldn't help the laugh that passed his lips, the vibrations sending a shock up Y/n's spine.
He continued his ascent, his lips tireless in their conquest. He suckled at her heat, lapping up her essence as it dripped over his chin, sticky and sickly sweet against his tongue. She couldn't help the way her hips bucked, the way she would grind restlessly against his face; she could feel her pleasure mounting, climbing to new heights. The familiar coil and ache in her lower stomach would not ease its tension, and she knew that at any moment she would come. His name a mantra tumbling from her lips, her fingers curled in his platinum locks, she tossed her head back, chasing the high that would inevitably come crashing down on her like a tidal wave, but it never came. Before she knew it, he had pulled away, pupils dilated, chin and cheeks slick with her juices, lips glinting in the dim glow of the bedroom. She could almost cry at the loss of contact, and in fact, tears welled in her eyes of pure frustration. Cody came up towards her, caging her in against his body. With hushed whispers, he peppered kisses along her face before finally settling on her lips, her taste sweetly coating her own tongue.
"I know, baby, I know," he soothed as he lined himself up with her entrance. She was more than ready, all prepped for him, nice and stretched out and slick. Catching her lips in one more deep kiss, Cody began pushing inside her, letting her adjust to his size. She was tight, her walls fluttering against him in the most agonizing of ways. If he wasn't close before, he was now. Once fully sheathed, Cody let himself still, taking deep shuddering breaths alongside her, pressing his face into the crook of her neck in a desperate attempt to ground himself.
"So good, ah, feel so good," Cody huffed, his teeth finding purchase on the skin of her neck, a new purple mark blooming against the flesh. Y/n reached for him, one of her hands cradling the back of his head, the other gripping onto his back, manicured nails marring his back with brand new welts. Beneath him, he could hear her whimpering, almost struggling to adjust to this new and sudden stretch. Her fingers tangled in his hair, her thighs twitched, and her pulse raced. The stinging sensation in her heat was almost delectable.
"Please," she whined, her hips beginning to rock on their own accord, desperately searching for some sort of friction. Cody seemed to almost snap in that moment, but still he held onto his restraint; his hips began to slowly roll against hers in a languid rhythm, each drag sending shivers down her spine. The more she clenched around him, the more he lost himself, hips rolling smoothly into her, relishing in her cries, savoring the sound of his name on her lips. This time, he let her indulge, driving himself deep, almost kissing her cervix; he didn't stop this time, didn't pull away, quite the opposite, he let her chase her peak. She seemed to shake beneath him, thighs trembling with fatigue, fingernails digging deep in his back, her desire clenching around him with a vice-like grip.
She was right at the cusp now, her glass fully flooding over. Nonsensical cries flew past her lips, her back arched, chest pressed firmly against his. In that moment, she felt him twitch inside of her. He followed her over the edge, holding her as he came, burying himself deep inside her. It was becoming too much, almost overstimulating, as he continued to rock his hips into hers, reaching that one spot one too many times.
Cody's hips began to falter in their rhythm, stuttering before coming to a complete halt. It was in that moment that he pulled away from her neck, ocean eyes capturing the scene before him; the love of his life beneath him, her face tranquil, blooming purple bruises along her neck like a myriad of lavender, she was perfection incarnate.
"What?" She was breathless, eyes wide, pupils blown as she studied his face. She finally seemed relaxed, no longer scared and vulnerable, but now completely comfortable in his presence. Cody smiled as he pressed a sweet peck to her cheek before taking her lips in a tender kiss.
"Nothing," he said, rolling next to her. Y/n smiled, adjusting herself so her head lay on his chest while he busied himself tracing simple patterns on her hip. They lay there, shrouded in a fog of pure bliss, finally exposed, finally her soul laid bare, and maybe, just maybe, her doubts began to wash away. She was enough.

It wasn't fair. Not when he held her in his arms that godforsaken night, tears streaming down the apples of her cheeks as you both cradled each other beneath a crescent moon, bodies tangled in silk. He could still smell the lotion that clung to her skin, and later marred his sheets. Could taste her pomegranate lip gloss, smell her shampoo, could feel her. Dick remembered everything from that night, the way her inexperienced body responded to his every touch, every whisper along the shell of her ear, every nip to her thighs. He could still remember the ghost of his name on her lips, feel her perfectly manicured hands tangling in his hair as her essence coated his tongue. That night had been nothing short of magical, and yet, right on the cusp of agonizing.
They were sixteen when Dick had heard she was bound for Europe, tied to it with a little red string. Of course, no one expected anything less. She was a child prodigy, the center of Gotham's affections since her debut in the Gotham concert hall at just six years old. Of course, Europe wanted her, and no one else would do. But it hurt, to know that in two years, his first love would be tied to anything but him. She talked of Europe so excitedly, with a shimmer in her eyes that Dick had never seen before. She wanted to try all the food, see all the sights, stand in the Louvre admiring the beauty of humanity baring its soul in the way of oil paints and canvas. Dick had never seen her so high in the clouds, ready to leave the vermin-filled streets of the city she had called home for the past 16 years of her life. He was envious. Europe would be taking his songbird and leaving him with not even a feather. He knew right then and there that she would not return.
So Dick savored every moment of the next two years with her at Gotham Academy. He went to every concert, attended every recital, just to see the glimmer in her eyes every time she picked up her violin, the way she seemed to come to life with her instrument perched on her shoulder, free enough to flow, dance, and sway gently in the wind of her solos. He lapped up every ounce of her that she bared to him, letting himself get lost. She had spent so much of her time at the manor with Dick that he could still catch her scent lingering amongst his old sheets. Bruce had been kind to them in those last two years, Alfred too, both turning a blind eye anytime she crossed the threshold of the staircase and into Dick's bedroom. Their time was limited, and everyone knew.
It wasn't fair. For Bruce to have asked him to help with security as Nightwing that night, to hide himself from her, to play vigilante and bodyguard for her. It would be her first night back in Gotham in almost five years, and Dick would not be able to attend, would not be able to see her, she would not be able to see him. And oh, how it made his heart ache.
Standing on the rooftop of the building right next to the concert hall, Dick watched, perched on the ledge, as Bruce arrived first, stepping out of his limo with Damian in tow. They both wore sensible tuxedos, blue bow ties around their necks. One after the other, the most influential people of Gotham pulled up in their fancy cars and limos, each one posing for the press before making their way into the hall. And yet, even with the most important people in Gotham at their fingertips, it seemed that they all waited with bated breaths, just like Dick, for one woman in particular. But Dick knew her, knew she would do anything to avoid the press, even if it meant walking into a dark alleyway, with a ridiculously expensive instrument strapped to her back, just to avoid the press and enter through a side door.
Dick watched curiously as she tightened her gray fur-covered stole around her shoulders, glancing every which way as she tried her best to slink away. To the untrained eye, she was safe, but Dick saw more, knew more. He could see the lowlifes that seeped into the tight and dark corners of Gotham, could see the animalistic gleam in their eyes as they raked over her form, and, more importantly, the case strapped to her back. Quietly, he pushed off the ledge, making sure to land behind one of the goons tailing her. With a precise and calculated strike from one of his escrima sticks to the criminal's head, he watched as he slumped to the floor, unconscious, but not dead. But the thump of his body was enough to alert the other two, and Dick could feel his heart drop to his stomach, not in fear for himself, but fear for her.
Within the blink of an eye, the goons spilled out from the shadows, sleazy grins on their faces as they zeroed in on Y/n. Dick made quick work of them, drawing their attention to himself as he dodged every blow, sweeping them off their feet with well-timed footwork, knocking them unconscious for good measure. It was quick, elegant, not showy. There were no quips or remarks, no flirting with his enemies, no. Something much too precious to him was at stake. Taking a deep breath, Dick turned to face her, his heart wrenching in his chest as he took in the woman she had become.
There was an air of elegance to her. She was wrapped in black silk, the material hugging each and every curve. Her hands were remarkably soft, with fingernails painted a bright yet sophisticated shade of red. Her hands were free of jewelry; of course, it only got in the way. Her neck and collarbones perfectly smooth, adorned by a familiar white gold chain and pearl pendant. She was every bit as beautiful as the last time, and Dick could do no more than stare, his breath getting caught in his chest. She was oh so familiar and yet not. He was uncharacteristically quiet, unable to produce any of his charms, unable to quip, or flirt like he was known to do. He was a deer caught in headlights.
"Thank you," Her eyes seemed to be committing every curve of his face, every angle, to memory. There was curiosity behind her gaze, as if she were looking for some lost familiarity in him. She took a step closer towards him, cupping his face in her hands, eyes searching for something. And Dick couldn't help but let himself sink into her palms. She still smelled of warm linens, of a cozy, clean warmth. Her hands were still just as smooth, her lips tinted in her trademark pomegranate-flavored gloss. Dick couldn't help but let his resolve shatter as he reached for her pendant, rolling the pearl between his fingers, oh so tenderly. It had been his parting gift to her. Something to remember him by. He couldn't believe she had held on to it over all those years. Did she miss him just as dearly as he did?
"I never stopped thinking about you, Richard." His name was sickly sweet on her lips, a temptation binding him by chain to her, but he didn't mind, not at all. How could he? When her eyes were so endearingly sad, when her lips seemed just as soft as clouds, when her hands had been the very glue holding him together in that moment. Oh, how he yearned for her.
"How-" Dick blinked as she pressed a kiss to his cheek, silencing his questions with a single red print of her lips.
"How could I not?" She asked, her fingers reaching for his mask. How she longed to see his pretty face.
Dick pulled back, almost hesitant. Gently, he reached for her hands, taking them in his own, and bringing them up to his lips as he pressed a kiss to her knuckles. He relished in the scent of her hand cream; not much had changed about her in those five years in Europe, and yet, so much had.
"Please, let me see your face, your eyes..." Her voice was thick with emotion and a longing; it broke his heart. This was all he had wanted for the past five years, to be able to see her, feel her, be enveloped by her very being. There was nothing more that he wanted than to take his mask off, whisk her away, but they both had jobs to do. It would look bad if she were to skip out on her own performance, and Bruce would kill him if he found out he was the cause of it.
"After?" She questioned, eyes hopeful. Dick smiled, tightening the stole around her shoulders before pressing a brief kiss to her forehead.
"After," Dick confirmed.
***
It was under the glaring lights of a well-lit stage that Dick knew she belonged. It was her home, her solace. He was bitter that she had left, of course, but deep down, he knew. For as much as she had loved him, as much as he loved her, she could not wrench herself away from her calling. It was selfish of him to even try to clip her wings. To try and keep her talents for Gotham, and Gotham alone. He could see that clearly now. He had loved watching her perform; she was exactly where she was supposed to be, but with the concert over, he was itching to leave the concert hall.
Flipping through the different feeds of all the security cameras, Dick searched with keen eyes for her. She was nowhere to be found in the hall itself, not in the foyer, not backstage with the rest of the musicians. Dick was beginning to get worried. Had someone gotten to her? He made his way back to the side entrance, relieved to see her waiting for him, arms crossed over her chest, a stole tightly wrapped around her shoulders, and hands clad in sleek and elegant silk gloves. He watched as she turned, eyes struggling to find him in the dark. But she had seen him; he could tell by the way her eyes lit up.
Before she could even speak his name, Dick closed the distance between them, a playful smile on his lips as he wrapped his arms around her waist, his lips lingering above hers for what she thought was an eternity.
"I've missed you," He murmured over her lips, enticed by the familiar scent of pomegranate. Y/n's eyes were half lidded as they flitted down to Dick's lips, desperate to bridge the distance between them.
"And I, you," she whispered. Dick smiled, pressing his lips to hers, finally bridging that distance. His body, once taut, seemed to become putty in her hands. He had dreamt of this moment many nights, being reunited with his lost love, getting trapped in her aroma, tangled in a nest of silk sheets under the pale moonlight streaming in through his window. He had dreamt of her voice, desperate and needy, calling to him, for him. And here he had her, pressed up against a rough brick wall, illuminated by the flicker of a distant streetlight. He could have had her right there, and then, he knew she wouldn't mind, and yet, he did. She was worth more than just a quickie against an old building in the flickering glow of dusted streetlights.
"Come home with me?" He asked, voice a whisper lost in the windy Gotham night, his lips pressed against her neck. She reached for his face, tilting it up to gaze into the white lenses of his mask, a faint smile ghosting over her lips.
"Of course,"
It took Dick all of fifteen minutes to get them back to his apartment. It was in a nicer part of the city, its interior sleek, filled with marble and velvet furniture. He had been anything but careful, and Bruce would most certainly give him an earful for speeding through Gotham with its most cherished soloist on the back of his bike, but he couldn't care less in that very moment.
As soon as the door clicked shut behind them, she turned to face him, her hands hesitant as they reached for his mask. Dick gave her a warm smile, taking her hand in his own and guiding it up to the black mask that sat on his face. With delicate fingers, she carefully peeled off the mask, her breath catching in her chest. His gaze was tender, gentle, and sky blue. She had missed him so much.
"Hi," Dick blushed, his cheeks dusted in a pale pink as he took a minute to dedicate every inch of her to memory. It seemed as though she had done the same.
"Hi," She giggled, her arms draped over his neck. They stood there in silence for a moment, breathing each other in. When would they see each other again?
Finally, Dick pulled himself away, a knowing smirk on his handsome features. His gaze, while still inviting, was now a little different. A bit darker, more intense.
"What?" Y/n murmured, suddenly feeling self-conscious under the heat of his gaze. Dick chuckled, shaking his head as he dropped his hands to rest on the curve of her hips, massaging his thumb against her dress.
"You have no idea how much I've missed you..."
"So show me,"
It was all he needed for his resolve to crumble, for the nerves to wash away. In that moment, he was suddenly reminded of all the lonely nights he had spent, accompanied by only the night sky, the image of her delicate features scrunching, her thighs quivering, the taste of her on his tongue while she fluttered against him. Nights spent shamefully scrolling her Instagram to better envision her face as he stroked himself to the mental playback of her mewls and cries.
Dick had no idea when they managed to get into his bedroom, but there she was, straddling him, her silhouette picturesque in the moonlight that managed to break through the smog and flutter between his curtains. She was gorgeous, always had been. Her lip gloss gleaming against the golden glow of his bedside lamp, eyes half-lidded and sultry, her torso encased in a delicate layer of black silk, all his to unwrap, like some elegant present made just for him.
"You were waiting for me," Dick realized. There was something bashful in the way her cheeks warmed, eyes refusing to meet his. It made him chuckle. He watched, as she reached for her pendant, rolling the pearl between her gloved thumb and fingers.
"I... I was. I thought I was stupid to do so. You were so upset when I left, and then we just fell off, and-" Sitting up quickly, Dick wrapped his arms around her, holding her face close to his chest, his heart breaking as she sagged against him, her face pressed up against his now bare chest. He could feel the hot tears dripping from her cheeks; they stung against his exposed skin.
He took the time to slowly pull off her silk gloves, tossing them to the side before pulling away to take hold of her hands. He rested his forehead against hers, gazing into her eyes as the tears continued to well.
"Of course I was upset, you were leaving and I didn't know when I'd see you again... But you're here now, and when I look at you, I can't even bother to be angry. All I feel is this weird warmth in my chest, and how shaky my hands get when it comes to you, all my training be damned. You make me come undone. You, no one else can," Dick admitted. He took a moment to admire the way his words seemed to put her at ease. He took in the sight of her for a second more before pressing his lips to hers, savoring the sweetness of the gloss. He could feel it coat his lips, and he savored its taste.
Letting his hands wander over the expanse of her body, now foreign to him, Dick, who had once known every dip and curve, he began to make his way towards the zipper of her dress, making quick work to pull it down. He let his fingers run up and down her exposed back, chuckling into their kiss as she shuddered beneath him.
She pulled away, shimmying out of the black silk, her torso now completely exposed to him, and all Dick could do was stare, his hands caressing her sides before dipping his head, peppering little nips and kisses along her collarbone, moving quickly down to her exposed chest. The room had a distinct chill to it, and Dick was hyper aware of it as his lips brushed against her already peaking nipples.
His breath was warm against her skin, lips just ghosting over her. Dick grinned, watching as her breathing stuttered, watching as she resisted the urge to press her nipple against his lips. And so, he decided to indulge her, pressing a warm tongue to the bud before taking it into his mouth, sucking at it with a desire and hunger she hadn't seen in years. He smirked against her as the surrounding skin began to pebble with goosebumps, watching as her body, like so many years ago, reacted viscerally to him.
He couldn't help but chuckle at the little puffs of air that escaped her lips, the soft mewls as he began to toy with her other nipple with calloused fingers. He had barely touched her, and yet already she had reacted to him.
Abruptly, Dick pulled away, standing her up to hastily pull off the black dress the rest of the way before laying her down on his bed. He watched as her hair formed a ring around her head, a beautiful halo framing the most breathtaking work of art he had ever seen. Dick decided then that this would be how he would picture you from now on, during the sinful, lonely nights.
"So pretty for me..." Dick murmured, gently caressing the side of her face. Her skin was flushed, warm to the touch, her eyes lidded, though still somewhat attentive. Here, laid bare against the blue of his sheets, he could truly admire her like he had done so many times before. Here, he could see the way her whole body jumped at his touch, skin twitching at the gentle stroking of her thigh.
Dick began to make his way down her torso, stopping every so often to leave a small mark from a quick nip to the sensitive skin. He trailed his kisses before stopping right above her pelvis, his lips dangerously close to her dripping core.
"I've barely even touched you," He teased, stroking her slit with his finger, watching as her body jolted at the sudden touch. Eager to finally get her taste on his tongue, Dick pressed a kiss to the inside of her thigh before taking her clit in his mouth, humming in amusement as she bucked her hips. She was dripping, her fluids clinging to his chin as his tongue lazily played with her clit. He could spend an eternity there, eagerly lapping her up, his tongue dipping into honey-coated heat, fingers curling against fluttering walls, her fingers tangled into his hair, gripping and pulling anytime he brushed up against the one spot that drove her wild. He could stay trapped between her quivering thighs, inhaling nothing but her scent, bringing her closer and closer to her climax, but Dick pulled away, sitting up to make a display of him slipping his glistening fingers into his mouth, carefully sucking each one clean, his lips coated in her essence, chin all but gleaming against a faint orange glow of light from the nightstand. He looked heavenly, his once neatly done hair now disheveled, his pupils blown, sweat dripping down his chest in the heat of the room.
"Dick..." she wined, pulling him down to meet her lips in a feverish kiss, her hands roaming his body, trailing lower and lower until her fingers had firmly wrapped around his shaft. Dick sharply inhaled, breaking their kiss to instead bury his face in the crook of her neck, suckling and nipping at the soft skin, right over her pulse. It was now her turn to hum in amusement, elated by the whimpers she could draw out of the vigilante. Using his pre cum, Y/n began to stroke the length of his manhood, twisting her wrist, occasionally letting her thumb roll over his tip. She reveled in the song of his whimpers and moans, pressing her thighs tight as the pulsing in her cunt became stronger. How she loved to hear him sing.
Dick could feel himself unraveling, felt the familiar tautness in his lower abdomen, the heat rising to his chest. He would break soon, and he could not have that.
"Y/n... Please- ah- stop-" he gasped, reaching between them to curl his fingers around her wrist. She looked up at him, confused. Had she done something wrong? Dick could tell she was beginning to let her thoughts consume her, and so, he captured her lips in one more kiss, passionate and with fervor.
"Need to come inside you..." He explained as he pulled away to line himself up with her entrance. Y/n nodded with hazy eyes, her arms wrapping around his torso, holding him close as he pushed himself inside of her.
Dick could feel the way her walls fluttered against him, spasming. She was close. He dipped his face into her neck, burying himself deeper yet. Each snap of his hips was slow, precise, and methodical. He could feel his rhythm stutter anytime she called out his name, begging him for more. In any other instance he would, he would pound his hips against hers relentlessly, leaving her a writhing, crying mess beneath him, but this was different, and he wanted, no, needed for it to last.
Snapping his hips against hers, grazing against the spot that made her see stars, Dick kissed her. He did so tenderly, moaning into her mouth as she whimpered against his lips, her back arching, pressing herself flush against him. Holding her back with one arm, Dick let his free hand travel, his fingers finding purchase on her swollen clit, rubbing soothing circles against it, bringing her just a little bit closer. She could tell he was close too; his strokes were less methodical, less rhythmic. His hips began to stutter a bit more; he was unraveling.
It only took a few more strokes, a few more circles against her clit for both of them to come undone. Dick held her desperately close, his arm caging her flush against his broad chest as he spilled ropes of hot white cum into her, her thighs quivering while her fingernails buried themselves into the flesh of his already scarred back, her walls spasming as his cock twitched inside her.
For a moment, they lay there, bodies pressed close to one another, their gasps fading into the quiet of the night before Dick pulled out of her, rolling over to lie beside her, his gaze fixed on the woman he had just ravished. For just a little while, Dick was eighteen again, holding his lover close, caging her in his arms in hopes she would not escape, in hopes that the prison of his strong arms and broad chest would be more than enough to keep her in Gotham. She was his again, just for one night.
Y/n rolled over, placing her head on his chest, curling into his side. Lazily, she began to trace the scars on his chest, focusing on nothing in particular. For just a brief moment in time, she was that inexperienced girl again, finding solace in Dick's strong arms and warm chest, too scared to talk about the future, and yet too comfortable in his embrace to pry herself off him.
So they held each other, somber eyes gazing, wandering, memorizing this exact moment. The scent of lavender and warm linens, pomegranate and mint, the feeling of calloused fingers tracing figure eights on her hip, the soft drag of smooth fingers against his scarred chest. The tangled mess of limbs and silk sheets, the glint of white gold against smooth skin, a pearl against a perfectly unmarred chest.
Summary- It’s been years since he had last seen her, and yet, he could still dream, couldn’t he?
A/n- This is just self indulgence at one in the morning happening here, don’t mind me, just like making myself feel sad :,)
It was a little later than usual when Joseph had gotten home. Quietly stepping foot into their cozy country home, Joseph placed his coat on the nearby wooden coatrack before slipping off his loafers. He could already smell the hearty scent of garlic and onion wafting from the kitchen, with just a sweet note of tomato to balance everything out.
Practically waltzing into the roomy kitchen, Joseph snuck behind his wife, gently taking her free hand and spinning her around, surprising her with a sweet kiss to her cheek.
“Good evening chap!” Y/n chirped, a teasing grin crossing her lips as she slipped out of Joseph’s grasp to turn and stir at the stew that sat on the stove. “How was that?” She asked.
“Mmm, that was a little more Irish than British, Darling, better luck next time,” Reaching over her shoulder, Joseph plucked the spoon from her hand, bumping his hip against hers, effectively pushing her away from the stove.
“But better than last time, no?” she asked, voice holding the cheeky smile that Joseph just knew would be painting her face, ready to greet him if he turned to look at her.
“Closer yes, last time you sounded like some hearty scottish man,” he teased, lifting the wooden spoon to his lips to taste the hearty beef stew he had been stirring.
“Little ol’ me?” she asked innocently, daintily placing her hands over her chest, dramatically batting her lashes at Joseph when he turned to look at her in disbelief, his hands on his hips and mouth ajar.
“Don’t try and act all dainty and lady like with me, ma’am! Don’t you forget, I saw you get into plenty fights in Venice, and get muzzled for your potty mouth!” Joseph exclaimed.
“Me!?” Y/n gasped, feigning an all too fake look of hurt.
“Yes you,” Joseph chuckled, placing down the wooden spoon before placing a kiss on Y/n’s nose.
“Well, you weren’t exactly a gentleman, JoJo,” Y/n pointed out as she began walking to their quaint living room.
“Never claimed to be, darling,” walking towards the radio that sat atop the fireplace mantle, Joseph carefully turned the dials until he reached their favorite station.
“I miss hearing songs like these,” Y/n sighed, looking up as Joseph walked to the couch, before letting himself practically fall on top of her.
“JoJo!” Y/n giggled, “Get off me, you big oaf!”
“Little ol’ me!?” Joseph gasped, eyes holding a playful glint.
He watched as the beautiful smile he adored slowly made its way across her face, wrapping her skin in such a warm glow.
Forty years. They had been married for Forty years. Thinking back on the first day they met, Joseph couldn’t help but be amazed.
He was anything but a good lad. A trickster, a drunkard at times, enthralled by a lifestyle filled with parties and women, he couldn’t believe that he had gotten here, draped across his lover’s body, his face held tenderly by pretty s/c hands, a pair of e/c eyes lovingly gazing into him, no doubt memorizing every curve and dip of the landscape of his rugged and wrinkled face.
Leaning down, Y/n placed a gentle kiss on Joseph’s forehead, slowly pulling away to stare at the burly man she held in her arms, and good lord, maybe it was the thousandth time in her life, but she couldn’t help but realize just how in love she truly was.
As they basked in the warmth of one another, the gentle hum of the radio seemed to come more and more into focus, trickling sweet honey and jazz into every corner of the quaint living room, perfect for an old couple.
For a second, if only for a moment, life had seemed perfect, all silk sheets and feather pillows, and for just that moment, he had felt safe. No vampires, no aztec gods, no mysterious powers or world ending plots, just him, an old man, embraced by his little old lady of a wife in their little country home, dozing off on a couch that might have been just a little too firm, but perfect because it was the first piece of furniture they had bought as a young couple.
“This... This isn’t real, is it, Y/n...” Joseph murmured into her chest, squeezing his eyes shut as his hands gripping onto hers, like they would fade away a moment too soon if he let go.
“What? JoJo, you’re talking nonsense, darling...” Y/n mumbled sleepily, lazily stroking the back of his hand with her thumb.
“Where’s Cesar?” Joseph asked, bracing himself for the answer he wanted, but knew he couldn’t have.
“Cesar? JoJo, Cesar’s on Air Supplena Island. He took over after Lisa Lisa, remember?”
“No. He’s not in Italy.” Joseph whispered.
“What? Of course he is-”
“No. This isn’t real. Cesar died. He died when we went after those damned gods. And you... You stayed on the island. You stayed because he was the love of your life, you were engaged, waiting for him to return so you could get married. I was going to be his best man, and Suzie, Suzie... You wanted her to be your maid of honor. I only saw you two times after Cesar died. Once, when Holly was born, and again for Holly’s wedding. None of this, none of this is real. You aren’t real, not... Not like this...” The longer he rambled on, the more desperate he became, forcefully pushing himself off of her, wincing as her hand darted for his.
“JoJo! What are you talking about!?” Y/n cried, quickly standing from the couch to face him.
“You aren’t my wife! We don’t live here! This place doesn’t even exist!” Joseph yelled, eyes wide and hand shaking almost furiously.
“Joseph, don’t say that! You! You are the love of my life! You always have been!” She sobbed, almost running after him as Joseph darted toward the door of the false sense of security he so desperately wanted to call home.
“No. No! You, you were the love of my life... But Cesar... He talked about you like you were the only thing he could see, like, like you were the only thing on his radar. And you... I remember you would always go to Suzie giggling, and tell her about your last date with Cesar. I remember because it hurt. And after Cesar died, it’s like something of yours left with him. Y/n... This isn’t real.” Joseph couldn’t tell who he was trying to convince anymore. Himself, or some dream version of the woman he used to trail after like some little abandoned puppy.
And yet, either way, it still all hurt the same way. It hurt him to see her standing theres, nose pink and runny, eyes bloodshot and welling with tear after tear. And just for a minute, he contemplated comforting her. Holding her in his arms and smoothing her hair with his good hand, apologizing for making her cry. He just wanted it to stop, but he knew, god he knew that he needed to let her go, needed to accept the fact that she was somewhere in Venice, wandering the island without her lover. He just needed to.
“JoJo! Don’t say that!” Her voice was raw, like something feral was crawling up her throat, like the tears that trekked down her face burned holes in her skin.
“You’re not real!”
“JoJo!”
“No!”
“JoJo!”
“Stop it!”
“JiJi!”
“Oi! JiJi!”
“You’re not real!” Joseph bellowed, sitting up stick straight, his eyes bewildered, chest heaving while sand flew up around him.
“Mr. Joestar...” Looking around him, he could count four worried faces, their eyes boring into him like they had never seen him before.
“What!?” Joseph barked, struggling to climb out of his sleeping bag. “Haven’t you seen someone have a dream before!?” he snarled, shaking off the sand from his pants.
“Mr. Joestar... Is everything alright?” Avdol asked hesitantly, taking a tentative step towards the shaken Joestar.
“I’m fine!” Joseph snapped, dragging his hands down his face. “I’ll be fine. I’ll be okay...” calming down a bit, Joseph let himself take a weary seat on the sand, his back facing the scorching desert sun.
Gone. She was gone. Maybe not dead, but no longer a part of his life, not his wife or the mother of his children, nothing but an old friend. But... He could dream, couldn’t he?

Jean Pierre Polnareff realizes he’s in love with you in the car on the way to Cairo.
With his head in his hand as he leans close to the window, Polnareff watches the world outside speed by in a wild mix of places he’ll never visit and scenery he’ll never see again. His mind spirals, developing elaborate stories about the residents in the villages they pass. He wonders if their lives are calmer than his. Or if they’ll have to embark on a whirlwind tour to defeat an evil mastermind just as he and his companions do.
He doubts it.
He’s pulled from his thoughts when he catches you moving from beside him. He watches from the corner of his eye as your head begins to bob, eyes blinking more and more slowly with each passing moment — you’re falling asleep.
Polnareff shifts in his seat without thinking, the window losing his interest as he brings his body to press closer to yours. He quietly prays that this will be enough to entice you to lay your head against his shoulder, to give you the last little push you need to rest.
It does, and within moments your soft cheek is squished to his shoulder, your chest rising and falling with slow, even breaths.
And Polnareff beams. The warmth of your skin against his makes him want to bounce in his seat, to scream to the universe, to hug you, kiss you.
Instead, to keep you asleep and to save himself from the others’ vicious teasing, he remains completely still, letting his mind race where his body cannot. This time as he stares out the window, cheek pressed to the top of your head, Polnareff conjures up beautiful daydreams.
Ones in which you visit him in France, smiling as you drag him along to his favorite pâtisseries on bright, sunny days, the scent of fresh flowers filling the air. Ones where you press feverish kisses all over his face, giggling with each pass of your lips over his skin. Ones where he loves you and you love him in return, unabashedly.
He’s giddy, ridiculously so, as the car continues to rumble along uneven roads and more towns disappear from view. You mumble something in your sleep, curling closer to his arm as a hand comes up to clutch at the hem of his shirt, and Polnareff vows to defeat Dio — to make his daydreams a reality.
hi maeve!! can i request something a little angsty? how about jotaro making up with his s/o after they argue and s/o is hurt?
hey! you certainly can! hope you enjoy! <3
making up after an argument w/ Jotaro
“I don’t know what you want from me.”
“I don’t know, Jotaro,” your tone was biting, frustration evident in your voice and in the furrow of your brows, “anything, to be honest. You’re never home and when you are, it feels like you want nothing to do with me! I don’t think I’m asking for a lot here!”
The words left Jotaro’s mouth before he could even think to stop them, raising his voice slightly to match the confrontational tone you’d taken. “Maybe if you weren’t so damn clingy it wouldn’t be an issue.”
You attempted to open your mouth to reply, to shoot back that again, you weren’t asking for a lot, that this wasn’t how relationships were supposed to work, but the words clung to the inside of your throat, refusing to budge from their place at the tip of your tongue.
Jotaro watched as your eyes glistened, tears clinging to your eyelashes as your bottom lip wobbled.
Oh no.
His heart began to ache as you broke down, moving to sit on the edge of the bed with your head hung low and face obscured by your trembling hands.
In hindsight, he could’ve said quite literally anything else to ease the frustrations that had been building up in your mind in his absence: “I love you,” “I’m sorry,” “I’ll try harder.”
Anything. Anything but the quippy remark he hadn’t even meant in the first place.
Jotaro felt like a fish out of water, uselessly flopping around on a boiling hot ship deck as he struggled to pull in a breath, lungs on fire with the effort of it all.
“Listen, I’m-”
“Can you just get out?” The words stung, it felt as if you’d just struck him with a fierce backhand. He could hear the small sniffles and the tired sigh that passed your lips before you continued. “Please? I just... I can’t do this right now, Jotaro.”
His throat constricted even further, tightening and making it hard to swallow. “Let me just-”
He had to force the words out, though he supposed it didn’t really matter. You’d already moved, curling in on yourself on the bed, your back facing the door, facing him. “Just go.”
With a sharp inhale, Jotaro left the room, closing the door behind him as he went. After a moment spent trying to collect himself just outside, he finally moved to collapse into the desk chair in his office, face illuminated by the soft glow of his computer in the otherwise darkened room.
He resigned himself to the silence he found there, hunching over his desk as the conversation played over and over in his mind. Without realizing it, Jotaro began to cry, salty tears racing down his face and hitting the papers that littered his desk, splattering the ink and blurring their words. He didn’t have it in him to care.
He was an asshole; the same pathetic little teenager who was mean to his mom and aloof to the very people he considered friends. A man destined to walk the Earth tired, miserable, and alone.
And after all this time Jotaro even had the audacity to think that he’d changed, that with you in his life the stress in his shoulders would ease and he could finally, finally, allow himself to be vulnerable. But he just had to go and fuck it all up for the sake of what? His own pride? A feeble attempt at saving face when he knew you were right?
He hadn’t been home and if he was, he was slaving away in his office until the early hours of the morning, hunched over his desk in a way not too dissimilar from how he was sitting now. Of course you’d taken that personally, how could you not? Jotaro kicked himself for not realizing your feelings sooner.
He needed you and he’d be damned if he didn’t attempt to fix what he’d broken.
On wobbly knees and with tears still drying on his cheeks, Jotaro made his way back down the hall to land a light knock against the bedroom door. “Can I come in?”
When he was met with no response, he pushed the door open anyway, maneuvering over to the bed to fix himself along the edge, keeping his distance.
“I thought I told you to get out.”
You didn’t even sound angry anymore just tired. The thought sent Jotaro’s mouth into a frown. “I wanted to apologize. I can’t leave you in here like this.”
His eyes met your back as he spoke and he allowed the silence to sit for a moment, giving you the opportunity to interject if you wanted. When you didn’t, Jotaro sucked in a deep breath and willed himself to continue. He needed to be vulnerable. For you. “What I said before was cruel and untrue. You’re not clingy. I just-”
A sigh passed his lips and you shuffled beside him. “I didn’t want you to tell me I wasn’t caring for you like I should be. I didn’t want to hear it because I knew it was true.”
He paused for a moment, blinking a few times as he swallowed. “I’ve been an asshole the past few weeks. I’m sorry.”
You rolled over to meet his gaze, staring up at him with a frown of your own. “You really hurt my feelings and you’re going to have to do a lot more than apologize to make it up to me.”
“I know.”
“Breakfast in the morning is on you. And I expect at least an hour to cuddle in bed before you disappear for the day. And we’ll talk about this more.” You tucked yourself close to his chest, not exactly how you’d usually cuddle up to him but he relished in your warmth all the same.
Jotaro smiled at your words. “Anything you want.”
“Well,” he could hear the teasing smile in your words, “don’t say anything. You’ll spoil me.”
He brought his lips to the crown of your head. “You deserve it... I’m sorry again.”
“It’s okay, Jotaro. I’m sorry I dumped it all on you. I should’ve talked to you before it got to that point.”
“Don’t apologize. You were right.”
Silence fell in the room though this time it was far from stifling. Jotaro felt like he could finally breathe again, with you at his side and willing to talk. Overwhelmed by the feeling of love blooming in his chest, he brought a hand up to rest against your head and placed another kiss to your forehead.
Closing his eyes, he focused on the quiet sound of your breathing. “I love you... so much.”
“I love you too.”
Jotaro knew this would only be the first in many stumbles on his way to vulnerability, on his way to loving you restrained by hesitation and pride, but with your weight on his arm and his hand smoothing over your hair, he knew it would all be worth it in the end.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an exhausted defense attorney in possession of a massive workload, must be in want of a cup of coffee. But Phoenix Wright could never just get one, could he?
His life could never truly be normal, not even something as seemingly mundane as stopping for his daily coffee could ever be uneventful. Sometimes you’d be working, distractingly beautiful and devastatingly kind, always smiling in that way that made his heart race and mouth stutter through his coffee order, face burning hot. While other times he’d meet Maya there and they’d walk to the office together, Maya talking his ear off about the latest episode of Pink Princess while she slurped away at whatever fruity drink she’d ordered this time.
Today was exceptionally bad, so unfortunate that Phoenix wondered why he’d even gotten out of bed in the first place if he was going to be publicly humiliated in his favorite coffee shop and in front of his favorite barista no less. It was the perfect storm and maybe he should’ve seen it coming, but Phoenix was far from perfect and that was just a fact.
