The first three are literal genetically enhanced space warriors and the last one is just some twitchy nerd who got lucky
Besides Samus would cream them all

every 14-16 year old is the bravest person on the planet to me
talking to a 15 year old like wow okay you are like if scrambled eggs was a person. I don't know how to save you. the way you move through the world is reminiscent of a stray cat whose soul got punted into a human body. said human body is currently undergoing changes and floods of hormones that would result in cities being levelled if you were perhaps a big dragon and not a medium sized primate. been there. good luck I love you
you don't have to excuse the behaviours of shitty teenagers, but you DO have to remember that they've been on this earth only as long as your cat. you have to ensure that the way you respond to said behaviour reflects this. yes they're an entire person. they're also going through a period of the most insane rapid transformation (physically, mentally, emotionally and socially) a person can experience in life. are they an irredeemable monster or are they just a very impressionable young person floundering through their first Strong Opinions based on what they've seen online, with ridiculous amounts of Hormone That Makes You Hate Everything in their bloodstream?
YOUNG TEENAGERS. are YOU an irredeemable monster or are YOU just a very impressionable young person floundering through your first Strong Opinions based on what you've seen online, with ridiculous amounts of Hormone That Makes You Hate Everything in your bloodstream? I'll give you a hint. it's the second option. cut yourself some slack too! try your very best to be kind, try your very best to consider people with differing experiences to you, and maybe take a step back from discourse that does nothing besides make you upset. you've only been an animal alive on this planet for a decade and a bit. there are artisanal cheddars at your local supermarket older than you. take it easy. eat more fruit. save up for a second hand bicycle. join a local club. it's impossibly difficult to be a teenager but you have it in you, whether you're aware of it or not. I hope you can be kind to yourself, because you DO deserve that kindness. kia kaha [:
Still holding on to light.
As with every oil lamp I make, I do a series of burns with different wicks to make sure that they produce a reasonably long, steady burn. Because of the way this lamp is constructed (with a small, difficult to access reservoir) there's a steel pin that keeps the wick from accidentally sliding into the lamp, and oil is added with a syringe under the hood. Worth it for this flame though! It'll burn at this level for about an hour--shorter than many of my lamps, but that's the tradeoff for a pose like this.
This is a friendly reminder that none disabled people often do benefit from the same accommodations disabled people benefit from.
Yeah okay I'll reblog that!!
My dad used to work for Vodafone and likes to tell a story about when he was working on a voicemail transcription service.
And there was a woman there who was some form of disability advocate (it was the 90s so her existence in the company was a minor miracle) and apparently she completely blew his mind on that project.
See, he'd imagined that this service was exclusively gonna be for deaf people. Obviously very useful for the very small number of people who couldn't hear their phone, but why would you even own a mobile phone if you couldn't hear?
But she described to him all the times he might want to read a message instead of listen to it. Maybe he was in a loud football crowd. Maybe there was important info that he needed to copy down that was spoken too fast. Maybe he was holding his sleeping newborn (me) and didn't want his phone to be loud and wake them up.
This doesn't feel as revolutionary as all that to those of us that have only ever known phones with the ability 'send text message', but given the timing and placement of this conversation I wonder if this woman and this project is *part of the reason text messaging exists*. The first text (SMS) message was sent by Vodafone UK in 1992 - where + when this conversation was happening - and then for a long time it was supported exclusively for 'messages from the carrier', and this project was an early potential extra use of the SMS protocol.
So Yeh, building for disability is kinda handy..
can you imagine how often you would use sign language if everyone knew it
little by little every day you are improving and growing and healing
the future we were promised ⋆˚꩜.ᐟ
I was a little too young and poor to experience this fleeting moment in tech. My hardware was all second-hsnd, modded, and rough.
This was stuff I lusted after, but couldn't afford. Then, I had the cash, but Apple decided everything should be a little glass box without buttons.
So, I started building Cyberdecks.
I need to design some Y2K hardware. Clear cases, round edges, blobs of chrome.
shout out to "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" for getting a video game adaptation then a radio play and then still not having a movie
It's coming along. Wish me luck I'm about to use holographic filament for the first time.
It is finished.
This is one of my favorite comments on this because so few people like the final piece and I love how it turned out. Thank you.
everything so scary & forever .

literally every music genre has at least one album that will absolutely change your life if you give it a shot
Except for metal, in my opinion.
GUARDS put this fool in a scary room
I saw someone spell it "whimsicle" today. Like popsicle
April Winchell, a voice actress (daughter of Tigger’s voice actor) ran an early 2010s blog called Regretsy that made fun of “regrettable” Etsy craft listings, where “Whimsicle fuckery” spelled that way was a shorthand.
don't isolate no matter how fucking broken you feel even if every attempt at connection proves futile do not stop reaching out to someone something somewhere please
let the world know you exist
please.
'minion' -too closely associated with those yellow things
'goon' -linguistic drift gave her a new meaning. i hope her new life is good for her. i miss her.
'henchman' -too gendered. can be shortened to 'hench' in a pinch, but lacks punch.
'servant' -too domestic to apply to all those who serve evil.
'underling, subordinate' -this one only works if they get off on being beneath you and/or you don't properly pay your workers.
'associate' -this one's good for grizzled mercenaries or lone agents but doesn't work good for broad swathes of an organization.
'slave' -same as underling but more intense. really fun for some of the group. unsavory for others in a way that limits the scope of the thing.
'thrall' -only really applies if you're brainwashing them and that's not something i've learned how to do en masse yet
'flunky, toady, stooge, lackey' -these are just insulting, and that isn't conducive to a healthy work environment. imagine going to work and your job title is 'stooge'.
'acolyte' -works for those that worship you, but again. lacks the scope.
'supporter, follower' -unspecific and vague
'assistant, helper, aide' -not sinister at all. just means you're doing things for me. swagless in this manner. could be good if used to describe someone who's so clearly more that as a way to emphasize their obedience via understatement, but that's only useful for a few members of the organization. and even then, 'associate' works better.
'cohort' -untested in the field. suggests an equal footing in the affair, ideal for post-structuralist evil organizations with a bottom-up power structure that's held in the hands of the evil workers themselves. perhaps we'll explore it together?
may I suggest: 'grunt' – time-tested by crime bosses with a variety of goals and organizational mandates. implies a subservient position with none of the innate baggage of lackey et al.
GRUNT IS PRETTY GOOD
Trump purchased tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of stock in UFC’s parent company while promoting the event, according to a May financial disclosure. Every president since Ronald Reagan has either put their assets in a blind trust managed by independent trustees or sold off their stocks to eliminate conflicts of interest. Trump did not.
