My Future

I’m extremely unsure of what career path I want to pursue in the future; art or science. Now I’ve always had a love for science, I love learning about the world around me and how it works and just the problem solving and satisfaction that comes with it. I’m really into fields related to physics and me define (mainly neuroscience) but I’m not 100% the greatest at math but I’m also pretty good with computer programming and am interested in software development. Then there’s art, I’ve loved art since like forever. I remember when I first learned how to draw properly outside of scribbles and doodles, and I used Dragoart and drew Pokemon😂 first Pokemon I drew was Blaziken and I remember the satisfaction that came knowing I can create something admirable and after that I just started drawing non stop. Art has been a really big part of my life, I love just creating something freely and expressively whether it’s art commissions, fan art, abstract art, portraits, paintings, sculptures and I just love it so much. But my parents always told me how artists don’t make much money or how that isn’t really a job and there’s no job in the art field and that kinda killed the idea of a career for it but I STILL never stopped loving art to this day (when I was 6-15 which is now). Now with me starting a webcomic hopefully sometime this year it’s been daunting me; what do I want to do with my life? I’m unsure of what path to go down, art has been calling me but I’ve also been interested in science too. I just want to do what makes me happy, but I can also make a living. Why must we struggle between what we love and what we like but mainly do for the money when it comes to career choices. I’m hoping for some input but chances are this will just be lost in a sea of posts.

Unfortunately, the world we live in calls for a career that could stabilize you financially. It's a tough world for artists these days and finding a good paying, constant job would be a hard thing. It'd mainly be you working to the maximum for the next...probably a minimum of 5 years before actually finding an algorithm on how to search for a job to do. The second option of being an artist is, indeed, starting out things online but, again, hard work and perseverance are necessary. There are many artists online right now and while we may have heard of some, there is a great portion of those whom are not in the spotlight.

My suggestion would be to go for science. You could either land a job as a science teacher or professor, maybe even an assistant somewhere. While even going with this career path is unstable, it is a bit better than art. I understand your feelings but making these decisions requires objective thinking.

But you can always continue doing art, no matter what. Our career doesn’t define us, it’s just something to provide for a living. Down the years of graduating and doing that chosen job, you can simultaneously work on your art as a hobby. So when you start a web comic, or decide to sell your work, it won’t be the only thing you have to rely on. That’s how the world works, anyways...
