Oh damn.
Ladies and gentlemen, imagine if you will…Steve Yoshimoto Rogers.
Growing up in the depression in San Francisco, Steve tried to join the Army at the beginning of the war, but was turned down repeatedly. (He tried to explain that he was American, born here, but even if they had been accepting half-Japanese soldiers at that point he was too skinny and sickly.) In ‘42 he and his best friend Bucky were shipped to Manzanar - by ‘43 they were accepting Nisei soldiers, and he and Bucky were both yes-yes boys. Bucky joined the 442nd but they still didn’t let Steve in - the conditions at the camp hadn’t done anything good for Steve’s health. Without Bucky there, there was nobody to keep Steve out of trouble, fighting the guards when they tried to bully the other internees, and by the end of ‘43 Steve was sent to the prison camp at Tule Lake with the other “incorrigibles”. It was there he met Dr. Erskine. Imagine if this was the face of the symbol of America.
Holy shit, I love this, I WANT this. I want an ongoing 150 issue three-year series of this.

There’s been a lot of talk about characters, and Bob Morley and Lexa’s death. I just watched 3.08 today and I guess I need to decompress and think about it too.
Bellamy: My opinion is that Bellamy wasn’t out of character at all this season. Remember he was pretty much an arrogant power hungry dick for half of season 1? That’s because although he may be older than the other kids from the drop ship, he’s still a kid himself. He is still vulnerable to Pike’s compelling charisma in his time of pain after losing his girlfriend. Bellamy is idealistic like all young people - he not only wants the best for his people, but he believes they can have it better. That he can help his people create a better world for themselves. It’s human nature to desire control and agency over one’s life. After the loss of Mount Weather, Bellamy needs to believe that Pike’s aggressive call to action is his way of regaining agency in a world he feels he lost control of. Jasper shows his grief by drinking himself stupid every night, but Bellamy doesn’t have that luxury. He’s looked to as a leader, so he has to channel that grief into something else. Something he thinks is more constructive, which means he has emotional blinders on. He honestly thinks he’s right, until he realizes that he’s not.
On Lexa’s death: A lot of fans seem to be crying foul because it happened in the same episode that Clarke and Lexa finally seemed to declare their feelings for each other, and had an intimate interlude. But I don’t believe her death had anything to do with that. Let’s remember this is a story, and that this is driving the story forward. Through flashbacks, we begin to see more of the history of this world. About what happened after the nuclear winter, and an explanation of both Jaha’s magic pills/chips, and the “nightblood”. It seems to me that Lexa had to die in order to further illustrate how Becka/Ally and the past still affect this future. If she didn’t die, then there would have been no reason to extract Ally 2.0 from her neck.
Side note about Titus: I am, however, really annoyed at the apparent ease of his about face. He went from waving a gun around (and remember Grounders are forbidden from touching guns in their superstition, so this was a VERY desperate move on his part), to suddenly supporting Clarke just because Lexa said so on her deathbed? No, something is amiss here. This guy is either planning something, or knows something we don’t. His accidental shooting of Lexa can’t have changed his mind so quickly. There was more to his conviction than just protecting Lexa’s life.
That’s what I really love about this show. Although it can be predictable in a CW kind of way, the characters are complicated and there’s no black or white. No one is really good or bad. Everyone exists in a moral grey zone, doing what each of them thinks is right. Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia, etc are not the Scooby Gang. Lexa and the Grounders are not the monster of week.

Has anyone else thought about how much more compelling this simple change would have been thematically? We lose nothing of Clint’s character development, because a sister can be just as important and share the same concerns as a wife. But instead of an awkwardly underdeveloped romantic relationship, suddenly there’s a sibling relationship to parallel the Maximoffs. But Clint has chosen to protect his family and keep them out of it, while Pietro and Wanda have chosen to fight side by side. Give Clint a conversation with Pietro about family, and protecting their family. Make them disapprove of each other’s methods. Pietro’s sacrifice to save Clint is instantly so much more heartbreaking. Give us Clint fighting to bring Pietro’s body back, because he knows he needs to bring him home to Wanda.
Literally so much improvement with less than five minutes of the actual film changed
I’m gonna cry.
Most impressive
You could even keep the comic background of Clint’s brother being Barney, who was Laura’s husband but died way back. Now you have a character background that makes sense, and is a more natural middle point between 616 and the Ultimates universe.
but why doesnt derek have eyebrows when he's wolfed out when normal derek has the most eyebrowy-eyebrows in the world... like do they dissapear????
