I was super inspired by these art works (this, this, and this. Also specifically this fic just had me thinking about Bluestreak in general) and I just really wanted to draw today even though it’s one of the busiest days of the year for my work. I tried rendering this a different way at first but lemme tell you that was NOT working so I switched to this style. I love the way this style looks but I don’t do it often because the amount of layers I have to keep track of just makes things a nightmare (I render things in probably the worst way possible).

i do actually get tired sometimes of having the same basic decency discussions around native culture. stop using the term spirit animal. don't use the skin word for shapeshifters. i saw a plushie kickstarter with the W word for a small skull deer plushie and it had already met it's goal. people just blithely repeating terms with no connection to their culture. actively profiting off of it.

yes! though "offensive" is a bit reductive; it's not a swear or a slur, it's just a concept that the navajo would prefer non-navajo not to talk about, both because of their belief about how using it's name invokes/summons the being in some way and because of the ongoing appropriation and erasure of native culture.

I just finished playing through Hyrule Warriors to better understand Warriors' journey and WOW. This game is awesome. Lemme tell you about it. Let me share with you some canonical information about Warriors, some of which I bet you've never heard before.

Young Link and Toon Link are NOT in the main story. They only appear in the adventure mode. And you have to beat the SHIT out of Young Link to get him to join your side cause he does NOT want to. Toon Link just appears from the ether, you don't have to smash his head in for him to join you. Toon Link also can talk with Ayrll through his necklace which is just adorable. 10/10, no notes.

I always assumed the huge war started because Cia knew who the hero was and was in love with him, but he didn't want her so it turned into that huge thing. Turns out, the war started because of similar reasons HOWEVER no one even knew who the fucking hero was. Like they had no idea where he was. And the only reason Warriors was made the Hero was because Zelda was missing and Impa was freaking out and turned to this random soldier and was like 'Eh, you'll do. Here, go throw on this green tunic'. I love her.

Wars wields like 6 different weapons: Sword, Magic Rod (fire rod), Master Sword (counts as a different weapon for some reason), the Spinner from Twilight Princess (yes, I'm serious), the Gauntlets (basically the ball and chain from TP), and the Great Fairy (I haven't found this one yet but from what I've heard, this is crazy).

The Temple of Souls has statues of ALL Heroes (minus Wild cause his games hadn't come out yet) so it stands to reason that Wars kinda already knew who Wolfie was or at least had a suspicion.

Speaking of suspicions, based on all the fics I'd read, I was fully expecting the game to be full of traitorous soldiers. Imagine my surprise when that happened exactly ONCE in the ENTIRE story. Literally I'm 99% sure it only happens on Skyloft and never again cause I can't remember it happening any other time.

The far and away, best fighter of the entire game is................Fi! Don't even TRY to change my mind because its impossible. Ever single level I was allowed to, I'd chose her and just fucking stream roll the opposite side. Dude, Fi's a god damned menace, all of her combos fucking rip ass, she does SO much damage and her attack range is by far the best cause she can hit things behind her as well so basically nothing can touch her. Pound for pound, she'll kick anyone's ass. Not to mention--

It is confirmed in 2 separate ways that Warriors knows and can do a Skyward Strike. The first was during a specific cutscene where the Skyward Strike appears gold and is notably worse than what we've seen Sky do. The second is during his special attack where he can charge one up (this also brings up the fact that he can charge a Skyward Strike with any sword but that's neither here nor there)

Warriors has used the Triforce TWICE. Yes, the entire triforce, all three cheese slices. He's used it TWICE.

He also KEEPS the triforce of courage at the end of the story.

This is the fucking funniest part of the game. Cia--who is Ganon for basically half the story and is still very, very muchso evil even after Ganon leaves her body (it's like a whole thing and honestly I didn't understand like half of it)--basically dies in Lana's arms after Ganon is defeated. Only she doesn't cause she apparently turns a new leaf and is now a good guy, kinda sorta maybe, and the game makes us protect her during the very last level against [insert threat here]. So once we beat the evil threat, we recover the triforce of power from it which Lana then GIVES to Cia so that Cia doesn't die. What makes this scene so great is that it's revealed to us earlier in the story that Cia and Lana are actually the same person who was split into two parts, good (Lana) and evil (Cia). The game quite literally confirms to us that Cia has no good in her soul. Which means that Lana gave away the fucking triforce of POWER to someone who is confirmed evil and who previously used the very same triforce to try and kill everyone in Hyrule. And we know that Cia is the one who has the triforce of POWER because the closing cut scene confirms it. 1000000/10, this game is amazing.

The music FUCKS in this game, holy shit. Genuinely every track is a fucking banger remix of an already classic Zelda song. Highly recommend checking out the ost for this game.

This game is fucking fantastic and I would recommend either piratingplaying it or watching a playthrough. The dialogue for the characters is honestly hilarious.

Hot take, the lore in totk is actually bad. Like really bad (you won’t be able to change my mind). However, for everything I dislike about this game, the aesthetics and designs are top tier. I’ve been painting a shit ton this last month and here are a few of my favorites, hope y’all like it.

Another IDW panel redraw. This one specifically I’ll probably remember till the day I die because of how shocked I was when I saw it for the first time. That whole story arc was wild and I cannot BELIEVE Sunstreaker survived (crazy how he dodges death like 3 separate times). Alternative version without Hunter below the cut.

I was trying to practice dynamic perspective and if you couldn’t tell, I’m not very good at it lol. I actually redid this entire painting 4 hours in because the colors weren’t working so in total I spent ~8 hours on this. I really really liked painting in the gear/metal details by Sunstreakers eye, that was fun. By the end I was so tired that I just traced over Hunter to get the right silhouette because I couldn’t be fucked.

I was also trying to replicate one of my favorite artists painting styles, but I’m not super great at it lol. I just really love how immersive and dynamic his art always turns out. I was trying something different this last week.

So I started reading MTMTE yesterday and I noticed something about Whirl.

During issue #10 there is a flashback where Whirl is talking to Orion Pax. There is a specific frame where Whirls claws are shown and I noticed that he had 4 claws per hand. I thought that was pretty weird since he is shown with 2 claws every other time we see him, but I just kinda brushed it off. Then I was going back through issue #6 to grab some screenshots for references and I happened to notice how in the frame which shows Whirl trying to ‘put Springer out of his misery’ basically, Whirl is shown with 3 claws per hand. Which gave me an idea, I don’t know if this is canon and I just don’t know yet, but here goes:

Whirl was a victim of Empurata which was done by the Senate because he left the Aerial Corps and became a watchmaker. The Senate removed his hands and replaced them with claws which made it impossible for Whirl to continue as a watchmaker. Then, from my current understanding, he was then basically turned into the Senates lackey.

My theory is that for every huge mistake Whirl made (or was caught making), the Senate took away another one of his claws.

Lemme explain.

Let’s say his first mistake was leaving the Aerial Corps to pursue watchmaking. His punishment was having his hands removed and replaced with 4 claws per hand (so basically having his opposable thumbs removed).

Whirls second mistake was (presumably) being caught by Orion Pax beating up Megatron which was like, a whole thing involving Pax breaking into the Senate building and basically ended with Whirl being imprisoned for his crime.

Idk the exact timeline but imagining the flashback scene from issue #10 of MTMTE took place soon after then it would stand to reason that the Senate hadn’t had the time to get to Whirl before he told Pax about the bomb which is why he would’ve still had 4 claws. But I imagine the Senate weren’t too happy about the whole situation so they would have punished Whirl by removing another claw from his hands, leaving him with 3 per hand.

Whirls third mistake would have been attempting to kill Springer while he was with the Wreckers. This one I’m not 100% on as I think the Senate would have been no more by the time that happened as it happened during the war (or at least I think it did). Idk, maybe Whirl removed a claw from each of his hands himself as some sort of self imposed punishment or maybe it happened some other way, but I do know that Whirl had 3 claws per hand before the situation with the Wreckers and then the next time he is shown (presumably since I’ve only read up to MTMTE #11), he has 2 claws per hand.

(It might look like he only has 2 claws in this frame but I promise you he actually has 3, it’s just hard to see. He wouldnt be able to hold up the device with just 2 claws with the way they are positioned).

Anyway there’s my little ramble about Whirl. I just think he is a neat guy.
