im once again thinking about epic (the 2013 movie) and how it presented the most genuinely compelling relationship dynamic ive ever seen inside the most compelling lore and magic system possible and proceeded to not focus on literally any of that.

it means so much to me that rocky's lead puppeteer james ortiz got to voice him and got like. full billing right next to ryan gosling in the opening credits. and he's gotten to do interviews and red carpet appearances and talk about puppetry and it's all being taken so seriously just like he's any other type of actor. gonna make me cry fr. like they could have gotten some famous person to be rocky's voice to try and pull more star power but. they went with the guy who acted him. and like of course they did. like there he is. how could they do anything else. he's right there and he's perfect

TADC is a show about the psychology of its characters and I don't think Bubble is evil, the "true villain" or a malevolent email virus that exists outside him that is trying to destroy him. Rather, this is misunderstanding how Caine works and making assumptions about both him and Bubble without first trying to understand that their seemingly hostile dynamic at the moment isn't happening for no reason.

Bubble is the subconscious. I think he is like the Shadow Self of Jungian psychology. The blind spot of a person's consciousness. Bubble is everything that is a part of Caine that he rejects within himself, all the stuff Caine represses doesn't just vanish, it has to go somewhere. It has to be expressed through something.

The problem here is that Caine doesn't know how to collaboratively work with his assisting consciousness. Bubble is carrying all of Caine's psychological burden and Caine is doing absolutely nothing to alleviate that burden. So it makes sense that the impending crashout would come from Bubble and be directed at Caine, because Caine hasn't been kind to his subconscious self. Caine is literally ignoring that little voice in the back of his mind saying "help me." Unable to recognize that voice is his own. Bubble's feelings are his own feelings. Bubble isn't a virus or parasite, he is Caine's canary in the coal mine sounding the alarm of danger.

Also the really sad thing is that telling Caine he should die means that Caine has suicidal ideation that he is suppressing. Bubble is merely trying to draw Caine's attention to that. It's a warning. And Caine's reaction being more surprised and concerned with the cursing than the suicidal ideation shows that it's likely not the first time Bubble said something like that to him.

my favorite thing about max jägerman is that he starts out as a pretty straightforward stereotype but he gets more menacing the more you learn about him. the way that in literal monster he acknowledges that he'll peak in high school but he'll take the opportunity to have power while he still can. his entire pasqualli's parking lot monologue, where he reveals that the hatchetfield high school hierarchy isn't really about societal responses to undesirable characteristics in the nerds. it only exists because max acknowledges that every dictatorship needs scapegoats, and max is a damn good dictator. the way that he calls himself a god, and he's right. because when he says that he brings light to dark, the stage lights shift on cue. he interrupts cool as i think i am and talks to the audience directly. and not just in cool as i think i am- in literal monster, he talks to us for his entire verse. reality bends to his will. he's aware of the fourth wall. genre-savvy, too - he plays (and he is, self-admittedly, playing the role of) the coming of age high school bully to a tee, down to the daddy issues and the peaked in high school bit and the forbidden fruit crush and the "that was the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me" last minute switch-up. and when max dies, reality bends to his will again ("nerdy prudes will pay. nerdy prudes must die") but this time it's to bring him back at all costs. and the show goes from a coming of age high school comedy to a slasher. and he plays the slasher villain just as well. he's such a fascinating, entertaining antagonist. i love him so much.
